Ok literally everything else about the series aside, which had a lot of great stuff, I think we need to focus more on the fact that they have the line "Who's your daddy?" cuz dayum lol I know it wasn't funny in context but c'mon.

if anything I cringed hardest when I found out the leads' age gap irl ?
age gaps are not my thing and then seeing that a 30 yr old woman is playing a girl younger than the 22 yr old man just weirded me out for a bit

Oddly enough, I think the awkward thing for me was how everyone handled their family situation. Istg I wanted to slap any character that said "But he's still your dad" or whatever. The show was about found family, but the only bio family that was never actually reunited as a proper family was Ziqiu with his dad. Other than him it still had this weird ass "But you're still related by blood" element which I think kind of defeats the purpose of showing that you should only really care about those that care about you?
It was still an amazing show, but I found the way the characters were encouraged to forgive and re-accept anyone just because of biological relations just made me cringe when literally the most nontoxic, healthy relationships were the found families (both the actual household and the friend group)
For me that was the awkward part, not the love triangle, which is the thing that would normally bother me

My first time crying over a chinese drama, amazing character development and acting. If not for the (unnecessary)…
I think it made sense. They dealt a lot with Ling Xiao's insecurities and issues stemming from his past while Ziqiu was left a lot more to himself, and I think Ziqiu mistaking his feelings for her made sense as he felt that he was the only one who wasn't "truly" part of the family, and it was a grasp for security when he felt that his only biological/legal family had all abandoned him and he wanted the comfort of being "officially" part of the family in that way. Normally I'd agree with you, but I felt that this actually made sense and was well done in a very non-perverted way where he even admitted he didn't actually have any romantic/sexual feelings toward her

I hate long dramas. I loved this. I have a hard time finishing dramas that are 26 episodes long. I couldn't stop watching this and I was smiling so hard at the end istg I put off watching this for so long and if you're having any doubts about it, don't. It's amazing. It's just the right amount of everything. Every character is nuanced and developed and they don't overuse the usual tropes. I found the ending to be infinitely more satisfying than I anticipated and it was just overall a really good show. Highly recommend.

I watched it a long time ago and I suddenly remembered it so I came here. It's a really good drama and I really…
They even said in the show that they never TRULY thought of themselves as bio family. He had liked her and kept an appropriate distance from the time they were young so they wouldn't feel like bio siblings, and she had liked him from when she was young as well, unlike her and Ziqiu who squabbled like actual siblings and the only "romance" between them was confused feelings about family and security within that. Ziqiu was very much her brother but Ling Xiao really was the boy next door.

7 and 12 , 9 and 14 , 20 and 25 . It's hard as young sib looks extremely young indeed.
It's one thing for a kid to look young, but Gene didn't look 12 lol. He even looked a bit older than 14, so for Sib to look the intended age (around 8) and then Gene to look like 15 was very jarring, though I do agree that at those ages those 5 years makes a huge difference so it does make sense

They are 5 years apart. Sib is 20 and Gene is 25 when it showed them as kids it is confusing cause it looks like…
Oh, ok, thanks! Ya, when I kept watching they actually said in the next episode that they had a five year gap, but it's still really weird seeing them younger because I don't know how old those actors are but you're right they look more than five years apart
On Lovely Writer May 11, 2021
What's the age supposed to be? Their young selves seem like 7 years apart but Gene's young version acts way younger than he looks
Ok I've seen this before but I just rewatched it and I missing something? Why is everyone overlooking Gii assaulting/raping Takumi? And then immediately after Takumi admits his brother used to do the same thing but it's "different" because "he's Gii" like ???? Yes, Takumi consented in the end, but it was very forced and seemed like a lot of manipulation was involved. I'm very confused as to why that was glossed over so much.

Ok so this drama made me cry and so now every time I hear Hero I wanna cry again. It's been months but now that song is just associated with sadness and wow. It's on my playlist but I've never had a song do this to me before this drama
