I enjoyed this but I'm not a fan of the mothers storyline. Yes she was controlling & negative, but it was weird…
I've been saying this since ep. 4. Chikako's anger is just as valid as every other family member. And tbf to her, in Japanese society, her father's wrongdoings would have made it hard to become a teacher.
Also not only did he have a mistress, I think he met up with her at the end? And she sounds and looks soooooo much younger....
This drama started with great promise AND premise but somewhere around the midway point became a mess. I won't go into all the problems with the drama - I outlined all of them in an older comment below - but suffice to say, it could have been so much better and is the rare Fuka Koshiba story that was a miss.
I got what I wanted and this toxic ass family just separated. This is probably the best possible outcome for all of them; they all get a chance to grow as people without interference from troublesome relatives.
It's weird, I started out hating the mom and rooting for Mokomi but towards the end, I was feeling bad for the mom and rooting for Shunsuke. I'm glad the two of them found peace and happiness in the end.
Grandpa being a horny creep to the very end. Yuck.
