My theory is that the evil doctor guy has been working on the virus that created the zombi--sorry, I mean golems-- for years and had been experimenting on his patients, leading to Hibiki's mom's death. If you want cute and romantic dramas that aren't too heavy, try "Marry Me", "Shanai Marriage Honey" and "Kono Koi Atatamemasu Ka". For slice of life, one I liked was "Yongjiu Convenience Store" and "A Boy Named Flora A". Finally, for something batsh*t crazy but a brilliant masterpiece, "Todome no Kiss".
Not the best sci fi space movie I've watched but definitely a good one and lots of fun. Hope we see lots more excellent sci-fi movies from Asia! 8.5/10
