Ooh this is real tragic and as you said "Extreme". I agree, it's actually a bit unrealistic. Hope the drama takes a different route in the end. As much as im enthralled by the drama right now, ill hold it back and see from the sidelines. Thanks for your reply :)
a lot of people complain that the season 2 is v disappointing but honestly in my opinion, s2 is also very impactful.
I belive that the direction of both the season is very different. One is navigating through as a person and his motivation and when he realizes that he has to solidify his position, he starts to act on it the other season.
Season one was a introduction , an introduction where he's thrown into capital city life that comes out of nowhere, he is confused as to why someone would want to kill him and later getting acquainted with many important characters like emperor, princes, CPP etc that obviously have some unusual personality. The direction of s1 revolves around the underlying secrets, the mysteries with his identity, his mother and the world. He slowly unfolds the secret and the he is sent to beiqi as envoy and learns about his real identity and realized that people around him might be hiding things and manipulating him. He realizes that he needs power, authority and he has to build the network himself, in short finding out the cause, the motivation that he wants to pursue the whole season. In s2 we see that he quite literally blurts out and accuses the 2nd prince and princess Royale for treason when then the emperor quite literally throws his token into the water, dismissing his accusations. I think that was the moment he actually realise on more deeper level that he actually needed to be on the same foothold as other influential people to overthrow the 2nd prince and princess royale. So in my opinion the S2 is journey of FX solidifying his foothold into capital city as an powerful official. there is a lack of action scenes as I believe the storyline focuses more on the officialdom of FX and taking over neiku. Only throughout the end, we can see the direction for the S3 storyline will be much more focused on uncovering secrets about divine temple, true intentions of the CPP and emperor, wuzhu and other things. (Just my thoughts because i saw people absolutely trashing on s2) (Also someone who has read the novel, can you tell me how true the adaptation is to original novel especially in S2? )
