Colourism is definitely a problem in Asia so it makes sense.
Tbf Koreans aren’t experienced with portraying tanning. I also don’t expect actors who are demanded to keep their skin as bright as possible to suddenly tan. So it’s the best option. Is it well done? No! I’m with you all. Personally I just don’t see any need to only talk about the tanning when there’s much more to discuss within the first impression.

You’re right. But that’s not meant like it in this drama. So there’s no connection. It’s just referring to a southern province, Jeolla, and working families in the past.
I remember that the case was all over the news for a while. So it was really interesting to get more insight. I even remembered Baksu and Godgod but the details of the victims experiences are devastating. It was worse then I remembered. A good reminder to raise awareness.
As someone who’s part of the K-pop community for nearly 13 years now I’m getting more and more frustrated with every new episode. The whole begging for western validation is such a turnoff that the music genre itself starts to become more and more uninteresting for me. It seems like the documentary is created for 2019+ fans who have no clue about the past and focus on dance, dance and dance as main attraction.
All the recent talk about the ‘downfall of k-pop’ looks even more weird when the documentary clearly shows that older fans aren’t interesting anymore and therefore, everything needs to switch to a new standard which is not what everyone wants. I always enjoyed the versatility of the genre with so many bands but these days it’s too similar and with less obvious color. I wish the new fans the same happiness I had during the last decade… but for me, as Individuum, the show helped me to understand what’s bothering me for a while now. I think I don’t feel as part of the whole new industry anymore and that’s fine. So the next generation is there to form the future of the music industry. I’m fine with my favorite bands anyway. Have fun, sweethearts!
I don’t understand the hype. For 3 years I tried to watch the show but it was draggy and never excited me. Finally I dropped it and I don’t regret it. I should’ve done it earlier. This universe isn’t produced for my taste.
The cinematography is a bomb! The mix of tragedy and humor works pretty good. All the little details are so captivating… also I loved the whole star-truck cast!
To me it looks as if they were failing to hit a deadline and this was the best solution they could come up with.…
Exactly. The fact that it appears like that makes it useless. In AoS it indeed made sense to me but for other dramas like island or money heist it’s nonsense imo.
This was on my watchlist because of Lee Sung Kyung, but my goodness, after watching Ep. 1, this is definitely…
Well, melodramas are always tougher to watch then romcoms. But for now I find all characters super interesting and completely relatable. It’s the realism that caught me and which I always miss in extreme makjangs. So I don’t think that shooting stars is a relatable comparison except from the fl. 😇
I’m already in love with the show. The last times I was so hyped with the beginning of a melodrama have been ONE SPRING NIGHT and JUST BETWEEN LOVERS. Both shows I treasure highly… so it’s a huge compliment that the drama caught me directly from the start. If you’re insecure if you should give it a try, I can only say ‘Go for it!’
