I really liked the series from beginning to end. The fights were staged in a high quality and a lot of emotions found their way to me. I can only recommend the show. My only downer is that I would have liked to see more Hu Fei and Miao Renfeng together.
A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL I wholeheartedly loved the show and every single character in it. I don’t know why but everything about the drama made me nostalgic and happy. It was so well written and captivating. Yitian was indeed swoon worthy. His breakthrough in the aftermath is justified.
GO GO SQUID I enjoyed the show for the most part. The friendship and family stories kept me entertained. I wasn’t a huge fan of the gaming plot and the infantile female lead. For that reason the show felt draggy at times. But the leads had a great chemistry. Yitian has a supporting role which made me really curious for Season 2. I was a bit disappointed about the casting of Appledog. While reading the novel I imagined something different and she felt too old imo, despite the noona romance idea. No offense against the actress itself. It has nothing to do with her. The hype around the drama was for the most part justified.
HANDSOME SIBLINGS I think this show is my absolute favorite Hu Yi Tian drama. I’m a fan of the Jianghu genre in general and so satisfied. The first episode was a bit weird but then it got better and better with every episode. I loved the clan fights, the brother story and the minor important romances. The best part of the show were the cultivation fights and the humor. Yitian did a fine job in expressing the elite loner, but Chen Zhe Yuan was the star of the show. I can only recommend it.
MY ROOMMATE IS A DETECTIVE I’m still not over the extraordinary stupid international title for the show. It sounds like a romance but that’s less important. It’s rather a republican drama in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes and Hercules Poirot. The best part of the show have been the bromance and the entertaining criminal cases. It was really fun to watch and Yitian rocked his arrogant but intelligent character. The bickering with the female lead was also a fun watch but less interesting compared to the overall detective issues. I’m looking forward to Season 2.
YOU COMPLETE ME I had high hopes for this one but the writing in the beginning is a bit of a mess. It took me several episodes to get used to the storyline, all the characters and their intentions. After that it was indeed fun and a well entertaining company drama. Yitian and the female lead had a good chemistry and sweet romance. I can recommend the show.
UNREQUITED LOVE That’s another show where I had high hopes and the downer in my personal watch experience of Yitian dramas. He was gorgeous but I couldn’t warm up to the female lead and some supporting cast stories. The whole show felt draggy for the most part and it also lacked chemistry. It took me months to finish it and it was just okay in the end. Not great, not bad, mediocre. I can only recommend the show to patient Yitian fans because we have indeed some swoon worthy moments along the way. It just takes time to reach them.
GO GO SQUID 2: DT. APPLEDOG’S TIME I really enjoyed the whole show. Because they made two major changes I welcomed. First, they replaced the crypto topic with robot fights which were so much more fun to watch. Second, they recasted the female lead. The chemistry of her and Yitian is brilliant. In addition, his character is more funny and relatable compared to Season 1. For me the drama never felt draggy or boring. I couldn’t stop watching and enjoyed the whole ride till the end. It’s also the drama where Yitian laughs the most,
YOUTH SHOULD BE EARLY I’ll add my opinion when I’ve watched the show. It’s still on my watchlist.
HELLO THE SHARPSHOOTER I have mixed feelings about the show. On one hand it was such a cute story and a lot fun to and on the other hand I felt a bit lack of chemistry between the leads. I like the actress and the romance worked for most part for me, but at times I couldn’t help but wonder if Yitian had fun while filming. Maybe it’s just me. I was so glad that we didn’t have such an immature female lead as I expected in the first place. The shooting story and the romance of the second leads were also cute. In fact, it felt only draggy for me when the psychiatrist and husband plot appeared. Because many people love the show I would also recommend it.
DEFYING THE STORM The war drama is another show I can recommend. It’s focused on the (fictional) experiences of scholars and soldiers within the years of the 2nd sino-Japanese war (1937-1945) and in the official break between the first and second phase of the Chinese civil war. The historical battles and escalations are the frame for the individual stories. The show is well done and gives an exciting gaze in the Chinese history and how it’s presented nowadays. I was surprised how much the show indeed sticks to scientific proven facts. Ofc., along the way you also have the - for the genre typically - patriotism, pathos and a view from modern perspective, But the actors did an amazing job to portray their own motivations, changes and anxiety. At times Yitian appeared a bit too stiff in its role when the situation needed a strongly emotional response or made him portray weakness. Therefore, that’s not necessarily his expertise in acting but he improved a lot over the years. That’s why I’m happy he tries different genres and challenge himself. I can recommend the show to watchers that are interested in a history drama with a bit romance and are open to watch the show for what it is - entertainment.
CHECKMATE I was really excited for the show and very satisfied with the new characters of the leads and the focus on the crime investigation. The theme is more serious and not comedic. Despite that I couldn’t really warm up for a long time because all Agatha Christie cases were known to me because I grew up with them. So it’s not a drama but a “me” problem. If we’re talking about HYT as a republican detective I would rather recommend MRIAD for the bromance and humor.
SEE YOU AGAIN Because I enjoy both leads I had high hopes that were halfway met. The love story is really cute, the actors perspective fun but something - I can’t name it - is missing in this show. I guess I would call it a certain spark. Maybe I’m strongly biased here but I still enjoyed it to follow the storyline and watch two handsome people together. Therefore, great casting! Cute fantasy and romance! Just try the first 4 eps and decide for yourself if it’s your cup of tea.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE HU YI TIAN DRAMA AND WHY?
I’m curious (before the annual birthday wishes will let my comment disappear). ;)
Hello, Can you tell me , Did the ML & FL ended up together at the end or not?
I haven’t read your second part because I haven’t watched the show yet. It’s one of the dramas I always drag out. I’m literally fleeing from spoilers. 😅
