This drama is so refreshing, I’m usually obsessed with MLs and still am but let’s talk about the FL. She is…
She is very endearing , she is a badass without being too perfect and mean; and she is innocent without being foolish and child-like. The author, director and actress really struck the perfect balance.
Im glad we got an explanation of why the FL has martial arts skills. Her father was the ML's teacher and was a general in his early life! I wonder what happened, why he left it all behind.
In all the cdramas I’ve seen, independent women remain so even after marrying the ml, even when is unusual for…
This, 100%! I was so uncomfortable when she locked him in right after they were intimate for the first time, letting him think she was going to marry the other guy. And it got twice as bad knowing she kept sleeping with him even after she’d already decided to abandon him multiple times and was actively still planning to leave. Then she tried to sneak the goodbye letter in a book? That’s basically their version of breaking up over text, quite brutal, after all they have gone through together.
This drama had so much potential and really grabbed my attention for the first half but sadly it turned into a…
Prisioner of Beauty also has a basass FL. The female lead, Qiao Man, is a strategic genius and I love that she and her hubby work like a well oiled machine by the end of the show.
After watching Hou Minghao in a few shows, gotta say that in my opinion, he is the best "crier" in all of Cdramas right now. His eyes do all the heavy lifting, they convey so much raw pain, heartbreak, and vulnerability 🥺. Every time he acts out a sad scene, you genuinely feel gut punched and so bad for his character. While some actors struggle to squeeze out even a single tear or force the emotion, Neo just... delivers. 🥲
But now he is constrained by the rong family’s rules, rules he must obey and that are deeply unfair to a male…
I really wish the drama had leaned harder into Rong Shanbao building her own independent business empire after getting kicked out by her grandmother, instead of everything circled back to family drama and reconciliation. That grandma basically got away with barely anyconsequences for all her cruelty, and it bugs me so much. She’s gonna stay a constant stubborn thorn in their side, stirring up trouble until the day she croaks. The steward is just as infuriating, he did so much dirty work, including ripping up LJL’s goodbye letter like garbage, and still walks away completely scott free with no repercussions whatsoever! Lu Jianglai will always be treated like an outsider and a jealous husband and that is just so sad to me. The moment his job once again crosses the Rong family's business, all hell will break loose.
No I think he was genuine, the poor guy has some serious abandonment issues.
I don’t think he’s fragile either, but that sharp, old-school LJL only shows up when he’s dealing with the outside world. With RSB, though? It’s like his brain short circuits into blind devotion. I wish they showed them disagreeing or fighting without him instantly caving with a look. IMO there needed to be more push and pull.
Idk… these last eps I was really hoping to see some genuine yearning or desperation from her side, but the writers keep her so composed and in control that it never lands with me as a viewer. Their future already feels like it’ll be her forever running loyalty tests on him while he spirals in insecurity after every fight, not exactly the picture of a happy couple. The ML turned way too submissive and desperate for my liking. His abandonment issues basically tanked his self-esteem and handed her all the emotional leverage.
I get where you’re coming from, and I’ll admit I did complain at some point that the emotional dynamic felt…
I don’t find it sweet or cute in the slightest, soft or not. The show keeps framing slapping as this quirky, playful, almost romantic little habit, but I genuinely hate that trope, especially when it's excused or downplayed just because the man is the one getting hit.

All I really want is for her to include him more, that’s literally all I’m asking for. I’m fine with her tough, no nonsense personality (though she NEEDS to stop slapping or threatening to slap him), but the real issue is the total lack of communication. Marriage is supposed to be a partnership, not this one-sided thing where he’s constantly in shock by her plans. The second she opens up, talks strategy and they actually start working as a team, even if he’s just there backing her up, offering support, or being her rock, I’ll be over the moon.
