I like this drama. It has such a high quality. Aching cinematography all perfect (personality I easily give it a 9/10).
But I can't overlook some mistakes in the character creation and the storytelling, such as evil dudes becoming "angels" out of nowhere. xD

HOW THE HELL Helan Prince turned from brutal rapist into a "softie" who covers tenderly Wang Xuan princess with a blanket to protect her from cold ?!?

His change of attitude was hilariously fast.
So... Wang Xuan's words reminded him of his mother and that's why he changed so much (in just one 40 mins show???) .
Personally I don't think that men who can force themselves onto women and are willing to rape them can also be tender and act like cuties all of a sudden , jeez. Those kind of people don't feel compassion at all !

Yeah, also this drama is very "focused on reality". I never expected they would include this crazy kind of abduction xD
Only wuxias show weird scenes were the laws of physics seem to disappear.

Ok enough with the jokes. This is a high quality expensive production with a lot of character development and tragic, thick plot. A Great historical ❤

He's so kind. Best emperor ever! I even wish I had a father like him lol. In 99% of the dramas the emperor is always an @$$hole as you said !

Yeah the drama is very high quality. Music , narration, cinematography, actors ...all perfect.

I love him from Royal Nirvana and of course from Oriental odyssey. He's good in rom-comedies but hell he's even better in tragic roles. A very talented actor who knows how to act even in dramatic plots

I hope it's true. Sometimes they change or even cancel the announced date 100 times.
I like this one a lot. Not only because of Xu Kai but mainly because it's a fantasy/ romance with "serious" dramatic plot. Not fluffy or too comical

That happens almost to every damn drama that Jeremy jones Xu is in :'(

I saw Zhou Yi Wei for the first time in the modern suspense/ thriller/ face swap drama "New face". He's a great actor. I respect him for that and I hope I can move on from my little issue with his looks "in the rebel princess". I really wanna like him more. I'm trying xD

Anyways, just a few words about "the rebel princess" ... (sorry for the long text)
I'm only 4 eps in , because I'm relying on the English subs and I'm forced to wait (damn I wish I knew chinese sometimes) . I don't like the appearance of the main male lead (general Xiao qu) because he looks too brutal (only my personal opinion though, no offence ). But the drama overall has thick plot, a lot of character development (even though we're at the beginning), very expensive sets , many different locations, a lot of action scenes inbetween the politics. The female lead is smart and brave.
She doesn't relay on others to save her and she fights for her rights all alone whenever she needs to. As the description says , she's in love with prince Zidan- her childhood friend -and she wishes to marry him but then in order to save the kingdom she decides to marry Xiao Qu (the great general -coming from a low class ). Despite the fact that he looks brutal he's kindhearted, calm and seems righteous (so far). Those 2 seems a weird but good pair. She's too talkative and smart and he's too quiet and methodical. What a couple lol ! xD
Many dramas in 2020 have literally the SAME plot ( "The legend of Xiao Chuo" and " The promise of Chang'an ") but they weren't successful. "The rebel princess" rocks so far.

The Rebel princess has a great atmosphere. It's like Nirvana in fire/Rise of the phoenixes/ the story of miglan etc. The viewer feels as "part of the world". Great production.

But since you're also into crime /suspense and you watch "the memorist" , why don't you try out "Flower of evil" as well ? It describes the deep loyalty and love between a couple (a police woman and her husband). He appears to have committed a murder which he hides for the last 14 years. His wife finds it out now suddenly and decides to search for the real reason behind the murder instead of throw him out of their house.
Did he commit the murder or not? Is he an evil sociopath as the documents say or is he kindhearted person that she used to know ? Were those years of their marriage really a true love or a lie ?
Watch the 1rst ep and you'll get hooked.

From all those you referred, I've watched only Nirvana in fire and Jumong but yes some dramas do it right and have great plot so their length is necessary and makes them detailed and amazing. Similar to Nirvana in fire is Rise of the Phoenixes. You could try it out since you love those genres. Great politics /action/ romance . You won't be disappointed

I'm 4ep in and I force myself to like Zhou Yi Wei as Xiao Qui (general) but I really can't. There are so many handsome 40 year old chinese actors and yet they picked up him :'(
Even Zidan appears better on screen than him lol
Anyways, ALL the actors do their best and the drama has nice atmosphere and it's high quality overall. I just hope that it'll have enough plot to fill all those 68ep.

Yeah you're right. Even dramas that aren't wuxia , have way better scenes that "Legend of Fei". Personally if a historical drama has well-written plot and character development, I can overlook the cheap sets , the bad CGI and any other mistakes. What irritate me in LOF was that they didn't give any efforts to create a nice world and write a good script. They just threw in there Zhao Liying and said : "Baby we got your favourite actors , you gonna watch it no matter what". They treat us the viewers like we've no brain or something xD

Well.... to be honest after ep20 all I did was skipping non stop. That's how I dragged myself to 36 xD
From the 40min each ep has, I watch approximately ~ 15min lol

And I was looking for a high quality historical/ romance with serious plot.
I hope it'll be as good as "Rise of the Phoenixes" was ! I just doubt if it has enough plot to cover 68 episodes. Just 40 ep would make the plot thicker. The 68 gonna be full of fillers

I've watched 36 eps of LOF and I'm also very disappointed. The plot is mediocre, the characters are all unlikable (at least for me) and the sets are awfully cheap . I feel sorry for Zhao Liying for being a part of this utter nonsense. She's a veteran actress and she deserves better.
All the actors do their best but you can't "save" a bad script with good acting.
