I'm here for therapy you guys... My heart hurts so much for both of them.
agreed on everything. sincere is such a great adjective for this - you really could feel it from every single angle, every interpretation, from the design to the directing to the acting. my god what a gift!!
"In the dream, deokim told san to return three times. It is a palace ritual for the king's eunuch to climb up on the roof of the palace and shout three times while waving the king's robe when the king dies. The director was trying to express that in the dream"

the focus was really on the setup for the last scene. showing him as a good, benevolent king, the man that chose country over love, it was for good reason. it's a shame it didn't leave room for so many other wonderful details

but like not even a voiceover...? i don't think? maybe they did bits and was lost in translation for me, not sure. he visited her grave 280 times, but they skipped a lot of his mourning until the nephew was revealed. then the waterworks turned on. i suppose that was a more rational way to get us to the ending, vs skipping from end of his mourning till his death.
the palace as the gilded cage it is, and its impact on the key women shown was something extraordinary, too. i loved how, throughout the drama, we were shown how all their fates were impacted by everything that they could not control. it's easy to lose sight of this tragedy within the story, not just the love story
