Yes, I agree but 17/18 is still very young and certainly you are inexperienced. She is very introverted and insecure. She doesn’t handle interpersonal communication well and avoids it as much as possible. She hasn’t seen nor heard from him in 10 years (as her mother burned all his letters) so that makes things worse. It is pitiful really but they both haven’t forgotten the past. That makes it all the more poignant of course lol!

This makes complete sense as she was alone and adopted and is afraid of having no one to count on. I can COMPLETELY understand this fear. She also has been psychologically abused by the family who adopted her and is constantly afraid of abandonment. I believe he fully understands her predicament now which will bring things forward in their relationship. Eventually, she will learn of his sacrifices as well as her adopted mother’s actions against him in the past.

What matters is not whether she is pretty or is “underwhelming” in looks but can she act the part well. This also depends on the Director and how he/she tells them to express something. There are plenty of actresses that look pretty and only recite the lines while showing next to zero change in emotion.
