Title Memorist
Pitch look like "remember war of the son", with same actor !

Personally I can't stand Park Min Young, am I the only one? D:While I'm surprised to see Hwang Jung Eum as the…
Hwang Jung Eum : overplay and screams... She help to make me drop some dramas. But she was good in "incarnation of money". Her character is a few hysterical, so in a way, she was perfect for this role, and very funny.

Kill Me, Heal Me OST: Jang Jae In - Auditory Hallucination
We really can't do any worse!
Tasteful rap, no interesting rhythm, and even the female chorus is bad.
Musically void, without any originality, just a product without consistency.
Abominable.

Whereas there is on the OST record one of the best drama songs!
Luna (f(x)) & Choi (LUKUS) - Healing Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-xqK8KxP7Y
A harmonically rich song, with several movements, whose tune is surprising enough.
+a beautiful high-pitched rise during the chorus for the female voice.

Basick, INKII - In The Illusion is one of the worst songs in the W drama.
Luckily, you don't hear it during the drama, but only in the end credits.
Giving a "rap" feeling is the worst thing that can happen to a drama, especially a drama of this quality.
The chorus with the female voice is the only thing worthwhile in this song.

As far as damage is concerned, there are worse things about this drama.
(Jung Joon Young) - Where Are U : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEep0yLSaoY
You can hear this song on certain stages.
It gives an artificial "romantic rock" side to it. Bad as a background music.

The two best songs in the drama are these:

Park Bo Ram - Please say something, even though it is a lie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNjdW2La2cc
Not only is this song beautiful to listen to alone.
But it is also perfect in the drama as background music.

N [VIXX] + Yeo Eun - Me Without You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coixapakrGI
My favorite song from the drama, it appears at the end of episode 14.
It's perfect in the drama, as background music.

Shin Se Kyung. Only good dramas are "girl who see smell", and olders one "True with deep root", or her too short apparence in "Queen Seon deok". Else, she got horribles dramas, as "Heabek bride", or "Blade Man", and some others.

Hi XingBack,
Proposing a list of dramas for beginners is difficult.
On my side, when I have to propose dramas to a beginner, I do it according to his tastes.
For example, if it's someone who likes the American series "Games of throne", I can suggest "Empress Ki".

The number of dramas in your watchlist is impressive, so I trust your judgment, because there are many dramas you propose that I haven't seen.
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Hotel del Luna, The Tale of Nokdu are good dramas for beginners.
This is not the case with Extraordinary You, because the drama slows down a lot. It gets very boring and I wouldn't have liked to see that first drama. The performance of the actors is mediocre, especially the first male lead which is catastrophic. Finally, the qualities of the drama will not be detected by a beginner. The funniest part of the drama is the parody of other school dramas, such as "Boys over flowers" or "The Heirs". This humour will hardly be noticeable to a beginner, who doesn't know the tropes of these dramas. It is best to advise a good school drama directly in this case. Maybe "Boys over flowers". I don't know its quality, I've only seen the original Japanese version.

City Hunter is the perfect beginner's drama! It's the first Korean drama I've seen!
Rooftop Prince is also very good for beginners. The story contains the two main styles of kdrama, romcom and melodrama. With some touches of historical drama.
My love from the star, The Bridal Mask, Vagabond, I'm Not a Robot are very easily accessible and well paced (well, not always for the last one on this list).
Finally, Goblin is probably the worst drama to advise for a beginner, because the story doesn't progress and you get bored a lot. For someone who has never seen dramas and who watches nervous American shows, it will be failure. Maybe he'll be able to enjoy this drama after he's been in dramaworld for a while... or not!

I'm sending you a friend request, because you're one of the few people who rated 10 for "W", and dropped both "Goblin" and "Descendant of the sun", as I did.
With your long list of dramas, I'm more likely to be able to trust your ratings and use them to prioritize my viewings, as we share common tastes.

Hi,I don't think writing is lazy.On the contrary, it has become very sophisticated, very detailed, very elaborate. At…
I think there's been a misunderstanding. As far as I'm concerned, my Hotel Del Luna rating is comparable to yours.
Like you, I'm an experienced spectator, due to my age. And besides dramas, I've seen many other films and series. I am also an amateur screenwriter.

In spite of the quality of the writing, Hotel Del Luna is just not as enjoyable to watch as older dramas.
It's tragic, isn't it? This drama was written by the Hong sisters, very experienced screenwriters. Usually, they build the stories well. The first 20 minutes of "Master Sun" is a masterpiece. I respect their work, because I've seen several of their dramas, and often their first episode is very revealing of the quality of their writing. It's right in line with the most famous movie scripts.
To get an idea of the incredible work they have done on Hotel Del Luna, I advise you to read this blog :
http://bitchesoverdramas.com/hotel-del-luna/

This makes me sad, because despite everything, it wasn't enough to make me involved in the drama, beyond the second half. On the one hand, I manage to recognize the quality and quantity of their work, but on the other hand, something visceral is missing. I wasn't able to finish the drama. I stopped at episode 15. I tried to watch episode 16, and I only lasted half an hour. Everything seemed hollow and unnatural, no emotion.
I could list a lot of facts as to why it doesn't work, but that would take too long to write here.

So there's a real problem, because this is not the only example. A lot of current dramas are developed in this way, and I cannot deny the work that has been done. On the one hand, these scripts are more sophisticated, but on the other hand, they lose sight of the fundamentals. In other words, they fail to be exciting, and they are even boring and artificial.

That's why I'm talking about older dramas. It's less detailed, less sophisticated, but nevertheless the writer's work is just as consequential, in another way. They just focus more on other points. How to be effective? How do you shorten the scenes and make the script punchy? How do you build and bring scenes that are going to be very intense? How to captivate the viewer? How to make the emotion felt by the spectator as strong as possible? Etc...

In this matter, I will give an extreme example, since it is to the point of being self-parodic, with a meta aspect concerning the script: The Last Empress. We can say that "The Last Empress" is the exact opposite of "Hotel Del Luna" in terms of script philosophy. As I am much more interested in making a drama exciting than sophisticated, I of course preferred "The Last Empress". I even think that there is a form of sophistication in the excessiveness.

Concerning your list of dramas, you'll find that we have several dramas in common, concerning the estimation of quality. But in terms of old dramas, I base myself more on older dramas than that. The father of all of them is "Sandglass", a drama that should have served as a lesson, but which unfortunately didn't generate enough descendants. One can find in some historical dramas all the narrative quality, simple and punchy, to which I am referring. A classic but frighteningly effective art of narration. The most recent of these dramas should be "Empress Ki".

i usually used to never rewatch anything since i felt there was so much to watch so why bother with something…
A beautiful song can be listened to again and again all your life.
A good drama or a good movie can be revisited.
That's when you can pay attention to the details, and understand why it's so good.
I'd rather watch a drama I like again than try to watch 10 disappointing dramas.

I think you're going to get a consistent repeat of the same statements from a majority of the people:SAME!We ALL…
Hi,
I don't think writing is lazy.
On the contrary, it has become very sophisticated, very detailed, very elaborate.
At the same time, it's less inspired, and it just becomes a beautiful still life.
Very elaborate scripts, but they fail to produce intensity, rhythm, sincere emotion.
Example: Hotel Del Luna.
Older dramas have a less detailed writing, but all worked with a different objective: to be effective and aim for intensity.
Example: Queen of Ambition.

Never advise Goblin to a beginner!
You'll make him think Korean drama is sluggish and boring.
You'll disgust people with it.
It's better to have something with a story that's moving at the right speed.
"City Hunter," "My Love from the Star," for example.

Recent dramas are more artificial and there is a lot of overacting among the actors.
Some romcom are very good at the comedy aspect but fail on the love story.
That's not a big deal because I look mostly for comedy. Often the second half of the drama focuses on the romance, but that's stereotypical. You don't believe in it and the drama becomes soft and slow. So I give up a lot of drama about halfway through.
Some of the dramas take on more of a comedy side and are funny to the end. The romance is left on the back burner, and I find that a better option.
For a love story to be successful, you need drama, melodrama. Cute comedy drama doesn't work. The comedy part should be limited, and it should be based on situation comedy, not burlesque comedy. If the drama and its actors don't reflect seriousness and credibility, it doesn't work. It will remain just a cute romantic story without feeling.

Another factor to consider is the number of dramas seen previously.
Not everything is the fault of the dramas! An experienced spectator becomes more demanding. He has a sharp eye. He asks for more: dramas that live up to his favourite dramas. As time goes by, tastes evolve towards more demands.

As a spectator, you have to ask yourself what you really feel, and try to analyse why a drama does not meet the required criteria.
At the moment, the number of dramas that I am likely to like sincerely is very small.

I'll take three examples. This is not a review of these dramas, but rather a review of "how I feel" and "what is my true feeling about the drama". Yes, one should not cheat with one's true feeling. Opinion and affect must be sincere, no matter what the other spectators think.

Crash Landing on You: Objectively, the drama is great. It is of exceptional quality, especially thanks to the North Korean scenes. Subjectively, too much cheese, forced comedy, overacting. So I'm bored. Impossible to get emotionally involved. The end result, concerning my feeling: I don't like it! Of course, I'm looking for mitigating circumstances. "Yes, it's not that bad anyway", or "I can't reject the drama completely, because they put a lot of means to do it, and there are still good scenes". Whatever reasons I can find to smooth things over, it's useless. The only thing that counts is the final feeling, and it's negative. Most of the dramas I see fall into that category. I drop the drama most of the time, with a few exceptions. For Crash Landing on You, I was curious to go all the way because of the theme, but I forced myself painfully. Any drama that you force yourself to see the end is because you don't like it!

Tales of Nokdu: Objectively, it's a historical drama that's a bit too light, at first glance. Subjectively, Kim So Hyun is one of my favorite actresses, the actress's acting is going to be credible, captivate me and help me enter the story. During the second half of the drama, the love story has a strength that I really didn't expect, for a drama that I thought was light. My final feeling: it was a drama that I liked, but in an average way. A drama a little above the others. Note that I'm quantifying my feelings here. Which is never good, because it means that I didn't like it sincerely and completely. But at least I had a good time. A lot of drama falls into that category.

Love In Sadness: Objectively, a melodrama whose rhythm I fear is slow and boring. Subjectively, the drama surprises me by the quality of the actors. It surprises me even more when I see that there is no cheese or comedy, and that the tone used is not that of classical melodrama. It's more realistic and natural. Soon the story creates a situation of permanent, suffocating tension, which I really and sincerely feel. My final feeling: a drama that I completely loved. So it's an absolute feeling, without half measures. There is an easy way to detect a drama that you sincerely loved: you want to see it again. Or to see some particular scenes again. Or to go and see MVs of that drama on youtube. Although it is difficult to quantify or put a note, we can observe that in the dramas that fall into this category, there are differences. Some we love even more, "masterpieces". Some that are considered to be of slightly lower quality. But on the whole, the general feeling remains "I sincerely loved".

Is this good? Worth watching?
Quite boring, many fillers and secondary storys. If you liked an intense drama like King 2 heart, you will have difficuty to like this one. 1st episode is nice because you drop easely into the story, but soon, it become sleepy. You don't feel tension and danger to be traped in North Korea. A good point : North Korea is well portrayed (the writer got a lot of assistance for that) and directing give real illusion to be there. Otherwise, it's classic romcom, nothing new nothing mindblowing, and nothing trilling. So it depend of you. If you liked cheesy blockuster drama like Descendant of the sun, you should like this one too. If you are more exigeant, forget it.

Thanks to your comment, I started watching that drama.
Although I've seen a lot of drama, I'm not jaded.
I love this story, it's extremely powerful.
Emotions hit hard and right.
Thank you for your opinion.
I don't have time to write my opinion.
Right now, I like everything and the soundtrack is very good.
The only negative point of the drama is the rock song that appears from time to time on some stress scenes and sounds very bad.
