I don't think it's because of popularity. I was actually waiting for this drama to come out. I was disappointed at first but it's gaining it's pace.
I watched secret romantic guesthouse out of boredom with zero expectations. Unexpectedly the actors are doing a great job and the plot is good too.

I hate multiple love interests and love triangles with a passion. I had no expectations after forbidden marriage and recent kdramas. But this one was surprisingly good and interesting. I don't mind the love triangle because it is so clear who FL wants and their friendship/bromance covers up the unpleasantness of the love triangle for me.
Shin Ye Eun has improved so much since the last time I saw her in web series and psychometric. Her role in The Glory was really good too. Pacing, plot and chemistry are really good. Love the mystery, friendship and comedic aspect of the show. The characters are fun and the actors are doing a great job. Can't wait to see developments between Shi Yeol and the sister! So far so good.

Episode 1 pacing sucked. The transition to the flashbacks felt so random. FL character is annoying at times. Just found out the actress is an idol. Explains why her acting didn't feel natural. Episode 2 is better, especially after introducing the revenge element. ML's character as an unlawful lawyer makes more sense now. I wasn't ready to root for him in episode 1.

My heart goes out to people still defending In Joo. No one is asking for a 'badass' FL. Out of all the sisters she is the dumbest. How did she look after her sisters all these years by being this naive? Damn.

I get it, we all want flawed characters. I don't want her to be a badass too.
Not enough reality though. She's too naive for someone who has suffered since childhood. Girl obvioudly doesn't know how the real world works! Her friend just got killed and Choi Do Il approached her to get the money back and she thought they could be friends!
It's realistic in the sense that she didn't know where to keep or where to use the money.

Lol I wasn't looking forward to a badass female character. I understand the choices she made when she got that much money overnight. Believe me, we all want to see flawed characters with growth.
She's just too naive and it's not consistent with her family bg/childhood. Being the eldest who had to take care of her sisters and having a rough childhood will mean she matured early. When her friend died and Choi Do Il approached her to get the money back she trusted him and though they could be friends. That was just stupid. I get it, it's very convenient for the plot or the romance if he isn't evil. That's just bad writing.
Idm the fact that she was making all the mistakes while handling the amount of money she never had before. Or the fact that she'll go to extremes to protect her sisters.
Right now she's just being an idiot and not a complex character with flaws that we want her to be.
Considering her background, it would've made sense to be flawed that way. It would've made sense if she wasn't so naive too!

Ahh the drama is so good but In Joo is so dumb! She's not evil but she can't do what's right. She can't do anything except cry or make the worst decisions. Just pathetic and annoying.
I was so sure I'll like her character. I mean she had a rough childhood, suffered financially, had absent parents, no friends, divorced. And yet, she's still so niave. What is wrong with the writers??
In Hye is annoying and selfish but understandable because she's still a teenager.

After that?
Already 10 episodes in and the only relevant role she had is being the eye witness. She has continuously made bad decisions and got into trouble. Her character is a main role but she's always following the prosecutor and done nothing.

Ugh reporter Kim is so annoying. She is so reckless and only gets into trouble. I still don't see how her role is relevant at all to the storyline.

Palace politics is much more complicated than petty jealousy and cat fights. Pull a stupid stunt like replacing the tiger seal, many will lose their lives. She ought to know that by now

Kids who have gone through rough childhood mature faster. And in our case CSS, has been through more than enough to get a character development

Realistically speaking; anyone who has gone through childhood neglect, grief, disappointment and life and death situation become mature and understand the complexities of life quicker.
What's the point of Huo County Incident, her engagement with LY and even LBY if it's not for her character development? 🤡

I agree they handled the tiger seal incident poorly. I struggled to finish the episode.

I wouldn't say she was dumb before. She was clever but really immature and naive. Taking revenge on those ladies and princesses is acceptable because it was just a cat fight and it was pretty entertaining to watch. They were being unnecessarily rude to her and she stood her ground, whether it was the correct way or not.
But the recent episodes involves court politics which is much more complicated than petty jealousy. She should know that by now.
I mean, CSS has went through enough to get character development!

Hua County incident and breaking off her engagement with LY is more than enought for her to go through a huge character development. What was the purpose of all that if she remains
naive, stubborn and impulsive?

:') Definitely not the character development i was looking forward to. I thought after experiencing grief, death at Hua County would make her mature and wise. Not to mention, even after experiencing a huge disappointment in her life (breaking off her engagement with LY), she stills remains naive. Idk how many more life and death situation or grief will make her grow up!

CSS quickly went from one of my favourite characters to the most annoying character in episode 33. She is described as righteous and clever. She was dumb af and far from being upright.

The only historical fantasy kdrama I haven't dropped. They finally did it right!
I couldn't be less bothered with who replaced who. There are also many interesting things going on in the drama other than the main lead's storyline. The world building, characters and the plot is amazing.
The romance I'm truly invested in is between master Jin and maidservant Kim. Also excited to see more developments between Jin Cho Yeon and Park Dang Gu.

The 5 ahjussi are sus especially Inspector Ahn (to me for the past few eps, for some reason idek).
3 out of 5 were wearing the same shoe as the killer/person who attacked EGH from behind.
