According to what I read from other comments, he is a rather chatty and a funny person behind the scenes. The exact opposite of most of his characters.
He just looks a bit chubbier and since he is rather in the lower scale in terms of heights, it is easily noticeable.

I won’t venture into saying that it got better yet.
However, it is interesting to see A.R. not in his usual JCrew and preppy looks.
As the young master of Lingxu Pavilion, Nalan Yue‘s peasant looking wardrobe is...different...

Also did he gain weight or it is the bad fitted wardrobe?
He looks chubbier than his usual self and he constantly has his hands on his waistline which only accentuates the whole visual.

I am heading toward episode 10.
I have never seen Allen Ren so chatty, joyful, exuberant and act like a trickster in one single scene simultaneously.
To say the least, It is interesting to watch.
I will let you know when demonic Nalan Yue makes his entrance.

The editing of the scenes is bad; it is so obvious. There is no correlation between some of the scenes at all.
The love story between the brother of the ML and the sister of the FL is so Fast and Furious; it is giving the King Eternal Monarch’s romance a run for their money...
At this rate, they will probably be grandparents by the end of this drama. Hahaha

You are right.
As much as I usually enjoy watching Allen Ren’s acting.
In these first 2 episodes, his lines feel awkward.
Undercover or not, comedy does not seem to be his forte so far.
Also, they are jumping from one vague explanation to the next. The storyline and the lines are lacking substance.

I will keep on watching because well... except for the very few, almost every costumed drama released this year has been a major letdown (just blahhhh).
However, I do not have any high expectations for it.

That’s 90 hours and more. Even for me, that is beyond stretching for a drama.
Jumong with 70 something episodes was my limit and that was because the writing and production were outstanding. Also that was years ago... I am not in my teenage years anymore...

Well, it is only at the beginning; I guess this question might be irrelevant.

First and foremost, Lee Min Ho must have stopped smoking or at least, he smokes a lot less. His teeth are whiter, his eyes are clearer - shinier even and his skin seems a whole lot healthier if compare to 2 years ago.
Those along bring me a big smile.
Lastly, he feels a lot more mature and more assertive in his own skin. Those 2 years away in the military have improved his acting skills tremendously.
They really did wonders for him...
It also looks like that he has finally shed off that boyish and everything-eye-candy-look for a more manly, mature and a more reassured look.

She does feel and look emotionally impaired in her roles.

Ok, let me get this right.
They killed off Mu Yuan; one of the most lovable yet sorrowful and pitiful character in the drama. However, after pulling off all those murders, framings, incitements and schemings; this demented-serial-killer-androgynous-ass-face prince aka Lord Lu got away with everything after just a slap on the wrist by his imperial “Dàgē...”

*Did I like this drama? I don’t know what I feel about it. I have major extreme mixed feelings about it.
I did like Tou and Xue Zhi‘s wedding garments. That should count for something...

No wonder, the finale product is such a mess.
One of the writers from the Novoland series; well... there is no need for more explanations. The Novoland series are always a complicated mess with superfluous side stories and irrelevant characters.
As for the director, maybe this absurdity of a drama was just a side job... Hahaha. Obviously, the 2 dramas that you mentioned had better budgets all together and of course, actual real actors.

One more to add to the list of disappointments of 2020.
I can count on 1 hand; the very few that I fully enjoyed this year. It has being really bad this year.
At this rate, I might start checking Bollywood dramas again... Hahaha...
No disrespect to Bollywood dramas, you just can’t expect much from them.
