Yep! I'm reading the novel right now and it's definitely not long enough for a full length drama. I'm sure they aren't cutting out novel content too because I saw a scene in the beginning of the novel in one of the reuters for Tong.
In the novel they started after Huo Zhanbai had already traversed Jianghu for countless years and now Xue Ziye is setting out to find a cure. But they never really expanded on their journey before that (at least I haven't read that yet), so it might actually be really interesting to explore what he and Xue Ziye experienced in those unwritten years. It's not like Huo Zhanbai appears much in the novel so I don't think adding some backstory will make him end up overshadowing the FL or make her weaker in any way. I hope.
If the script is written well (please be written well), it might actually add more to this world and make the book more impactful than it already is, so I still have hope for this drama 😭🙏

The directors and screenwriters are all very experienced in spy films (e.g. the screenwriter wrote Lurk), and graduated with a degree in History. Apparently they've crafting the script since 2012! Imo, if you can't bear to watch this drama anymore, just, watch the last 6 episodes or so. Usually dramas get worse as the progress to the end but this drama's the complete opposite... the later half is soo much better, but too bad most people would be gone by then 🫠🫠
