The statement was translated but not fully and a lot of the content was lost in translation and miss understood/interpreted wrongly. So people ended up thinking the actors could be a bit homophobic and that they look down on the BL industry, but this is obviously not true (as always people just got offended on their own and never listened to what was actually intended to be communicated, they all live in their delusional world). In short this was the worst part.

I have to say I am a big movie/series fan I watched since I was young thousand upon thousand of productions from around the world mainstream ones and independent as well, it's true I saw more Boy/Girls stories because those are the most produced from the start of time the BL ones were harder to find, but from a few years ago they started to get more representation and they became quite popular. In university I even studied animation and script writing, so when I watch something I can be critical as well no matter what the masses say from a professional stand point a lot of times you can find issues... With that said I have to say that nothing Mean said was an attack on the BL lovers community or on the LGBT community (as I saw people believing he had a gay panic moment or that he is homophobic) and that from a professional point a view he is right (even if I am a fan of BL productions).
First of all BL in Asian countries are not on the same level as BL productions in the West. They are made specifically for a target audience and will usually not represent a majority, and so the script/story writing will only have limited situations so from this point of view yest it is limiting for their acting skills, as for an actor that strives to do many things it can be understandable that he is not satisfied or challenged by the BL roles (the variety is not large).
Second, as he mentioned that BL is on the lowest level he is right again, even in the West BL themed movies are rarely nominated or acclaimed with big awards. As in they are not taken seriously by everyone, even more by the higher-ups of the industry. Even in America there are productions that were successful and garnered attention and brought in money, yet that does not mean they were high level productions or that they were good (the reality is the majority of the masses would not know how to dissect a movie/tv series, the majority just watch it without thinking to much about what it's involved in the back of the production). In America one of the lowest level productions are the horror movies, usually people that try to get into the industry go for horror and people that try to remain relevant when they start to be forgotten (there are exceptions of good horror movies obviously, but the majority are just bad). With all these said you can still find incredible names attached to horror movies, but not as a main career move. In conclusion Mean just wanted to say that the BL production are quite limited and we wants to branch out, I don't understand why people are so fast to judge people on their career decisions and why the are so sensitive and offended by everything. Also acting in front of the cameras is considered less (easier) than acting with a live audience, because in front of the cameras you can redo the take a million times (in the majority of situations) compared to drama/theater acting where you have to be perfect and communicate with the live audience (still non of them are bad, people still work on them, it requires an effort, it's an art form). Nothing he said was bad, and certainly nothing to be angered and offended by.
