I finished episode 17 and the drama has gone insane. I should savor the remaining episodes but I'm afraid I'm just going to binge them instead because every episode is more interesting then the last. Will it end in tragedy? I hope not, but...
Where do you watch the latest episodes? The YouTube channels are behind, the latest episodes on Viki are behind paywall. I can't find 15 & 16 with subs anywhere.
They were boring, no chemistry between the leads, sometimes even bad acting... Wuxia is already a crazy genre, you have to elevate it somehow. I really like Who Rules the World so far, hopefully they will not drop the ball later on. :)
Will he always call him Wen? like they are close friends now .Why doesn't he call him Ke Xing ?
Zishu calls him many things (and some things are spoilery), but mainly Lao Wen (literally 'old Wen', it's affectionate address among friends). I am not sure Kexing is appropriate in historical setting, but I would like to hear from actual Chinese person to confirm/deny.
I started this out of curiosity, I haven't seen Xiao Zhan in such a long time on screen, so I thought I'd give…
But, I got attached to the characters (all of them) and now 20+ episodes in, I am crying and sobbing like a baby. I started when the sergeant died and cried all the way to the end of 21st episode. Maybe I'll make a break for a couple of days.
I started this out of curiosity, I haven't seen Xiao Zhan in such a long time on screen, so I thought I'd give it 4-5 episodes, satisfy my curiosity and move on.
Sometimes I can be really slow. It took me 10+ episodes to realize that the show is happening in the 80s. Only when her father investigated her and said that Nanzheng was born in 1966 and she just turned 19 in the drama I realized. The all outdated equipment should have clued me in. Which highly technological army still uses manual switchboard? No cell phones? I told you, soooo slow. :D
I liked the show well enough, especially Huang Xuan's acting, but I hate that they killed Siyue because of two delusional men (her brother and the waste of air that is Liu Feng). I have not made up my mind yet, but I might downgrade the rating just for that.
Wang Yibo fulfilled his role well, but I am afraid he will soon get type cast (as these cold, cerebral types). Liu Ran annoyed me enormously in the first half of the drama (I was afraid I would dream of her yelling 'erlang'), that was not actress's fault, but bad character writing. She became better in the second half when the writers decided to give her something to actually do.
I enjoyed cinematography, production and costume design (there is a specific Siyue's costume I WANT), the music was sometimes obtrusive - you don't need music to tell me how sad the scene is, sometimes is better to let scene speak for itself.
Overall, one of the better drama's I watched this year with solid story, which somewhat lost the steam in the last part of the drama. It felt as if they got lost in the number of conspiracies they created and episodes somewhat dragged. In the end, the mystery of the 'big bad' wasn't mystery at all - there was only one option left. But, I liked how they caught him. The conversation in the restaurant was clear for those who watched the drama from the beginning, I just waited for the finale to see how all played out.
Solid 8 out of 10, unless... see the first paragraph. ;)
