After reading the original novel, I appreciate the leads' relationship more in the drama. Idk, I feel it was much more sincere and heartfelt, as their friendship was built and nurtured on purely their morality and ideals. WWX with his own application of his principles shook LWJ's world which was full of rigid rules; so while WWX's ways are frowned upon, LWJ saw the clear intentions behind it and led him to question "what is right/wrong, what is black/white" (beautiful line and scene btw), and this led to their unbreakable bond.
Meanwhile in the novel, it also had this dynamic of course (it's the source after all), but the BL scenes really threw me off. It made their bond a bit superficial? Spoiler alert/TW: drunk sex (I wish I was kidding), LWJ stole WWX's first kiss while the latter was clearly resisting, WWX constantly teasing LWJ in a sexual manner, etc. Their bond in the drama seemed deeper. No hate on the novel and physical intimacy as a way to show love, but yeah.
Anyway the novel and drama are beautiful in their own ways, but the drama handles the intensity of their being "soulmates" better for me.
Just finished this drama and what a rollercoaster! ? Might be the best drama I have seen EVER, not lying. Initially…
The ending made perfect sense to me given their characters. Lan Wang Ji no longer has a reason to run away since things are back in the right/moral track, and for Wei Wu Xian it doesn't make sense for him to stay in Cloud Recesses now that his name is cleared up. Although I wish they ended up like Xiao Xing Chen and Song Lan pre-reincarnation where they travelled around the world to help people.
But I think they still ended up together after some time so it's all good.
Also Xue Yang and Xiao Xing Chen's story in Coffin Town took me by surprise. I did NOT expect that, from Xue Yang nonetheless

Everything was beautiful, from the story to the characters to the aesthetics to the music, even the names of the places: Cloud Recesses, Lotus Pier, Fragrance Hall, Nightless City, etc ❤️
I'm not really a huge BL fan but this was a really good love story. The actors are really good; they don't even need to say anything, their eyes say everything.
LOVE this. If there was a better word for "LOVE" I'd use it. You'll never imagine how much I avoided this drama in the past lol, since I was petty and didn't like the poster and in the plot I couldn't understand why she decided to be a housekeeper. But what I LOVE is the the leads' healthy relationship and their character growth, plus there were no annoying side-characters. Can't say it's slice-of-life per se, but it definitely has that "cozy peaceful hometown" vibe
I loooved the start and I really look forward to Nagi's growth, but during the middle I'm kinda losing it with the love triangle thing lol like this isn't what I signed up for (guess I should have taken the tag more seriously). Putting this on hold for now but would definitely go back to see what happens to Nagi in the end.
