Well the 50-episode drama is heaps better in terms of plot, character development for both main and side characters, etc. I recommend you go for it if you have the time. But the 20 episodes also work too if you'd like to focus on the main couple more (but you may not appreciate the ride that much :( )
i'm into watching bl dramas rn, i've watched 2gether. whre your eyes linger, addicted, and now iam currently watching…
Interestingly I only decided to watch this drama after being in my to-watch list for so long because I wanted to get over Where Your Eyes Linger lol. Like I have already rewatched WYEL multiple times + all the BTS and interviews + even Taejoo's actor's parts in Produce X 101.
Jokes on me because while I did get over WYEL, I fell into the The Untamed/the whole Mo Dao Zu Shi franchise rabbit hole.
tl;dr I was kind-of in the same situation as you lol. Watch this, you won't regret it :) Or if it's still too long and you only want to watch for the bromance, there's a 20-episode cut called the "Special Edition" that's roughly the same as this normal 50-episode one.
I often see this drama in reccomendations but refused to watch cuz I am not really into BL. But I got really confused…
This is one of the best reviews for this drama that I have read, thanks. It's, idk how to word it better lol, "unbiased"...?
Anyway same thoughts here. While I love the drama so much, I was more engaged during the flashback scenes. Half-way through the drama I was wondering why the "past" scenes aren't finished yet, like are they gonna have only 10 episodes for the "present" or something? Lol. But when it did finish, I found the new episodes a bit lacking (from the driving plot to the character development to the action) compared to the flashback.
Interestingly tho, Untamed is only rated a 7.3 in China while NIF1 is rated a 9.2 -- their ratings in China are…
I think TU was rated high for quite some time, like 8+? But the anti-campaign against the lead actor happened where they mass-rated the drama, which eventually lowered the rating.
Started watching this and it has been great so far! I'm currently on episode 18 and while my mind is blown like every second, I find it a bit slow...? Which episode does it pick up, like when does it get soo good that I'll lose sleep binge-watching? Lol. Thanks!
Another day, another chance to tell those who were hesitating to watch this, please try it. Don't let the censored…
I agree 1000% with WWX's smile lol. I almost gave up because the start was so new and confusing to me (I know nothing about cultivation stuff etc) and everyone had like a hundred names, but WWX's smile was one of the reasons I stuck through lmao
I have to say I only have three complaints about the show and they're pretty minor. 1) the blood on people's faces…
I agree with number 3 lmao it always happens to me. I remember during a fight scene, when I heard a flute I was excited that WWX would pop out but no, it was just the bgm lol
I agree with your thought that if one really pays attention, their relationship looks more like romance. But in…
Cool :) Ah yes, "in love" is a better word to describe their relationship instead of "lovers / romance" and that I completely agree with. There are different kinds of love (as there are between lovers, family, friends, etc) anyway. Actually from the official subs I've seen, I like "soulmate" the best because it goes above and beyond other types of relationships.
I agree with your thought that if one really pays attention, their relationship looks more like romance. But in the drama WWX and LWJ explicitly said "one true friend / soulmate / lifelong confidant", so I think we should respect that. In the novel, yes, they are lovers, but in the drama they are not and the characters themselves have said so.
I'm not fighting with you btw; just clarifying for the sake of those who sees this comment and haven't watched the drama yet.
Agree, the novel is good in its own way but for me, Wangxian's relationship in the drama is more heart touching.…
That's cool! :) I heard bits and pieces of the audio drama and it was adorable. I might get into it soon if I get accessible resources with subs lol. As for the animation, I heard not-so-good things about it (e.g. pacing) so I might not watch it.

Definitely :) The novel on the other hand shines more with regards to WWX's "gray morality" which the drama lacks, but that's for another discussion lol. But yeah, it's nice that we are provided with various media to enjoy the story and characters more.
Here is my 2 cents:From what I see, they've created a formula like what Disney did with MCU. They have 3 important…
Regarding the MAC stuff, interestingly The Untamed actually had a collaboration with a Chinese makeup brand where they have makeup lines for LWJ, WWX, etc. lol
Interesting read, thanks for the article. I also fell into The Untamed/MDZS rabbit hole and I have to be honest that I only started watching this because of the extremely high rating here + the hot guys (if it was just the high rating this would have stayed longer in my to-watch list lol). Although that can only last so long and thankfully the acting is superb and the plot is addicting, so the show/franchise became the powerhouse it is today.
As for the "boyfriend fantasy", idk I may be one of the few that actually shipped WWX and a female character Wen Qing at the start lol, and it did not affect my love for the show at all.
Fun fact: A boy band actually formed off some cast of The Untamed after the show's fame (Nie Huai Sang, Xiao Xing Chen, etc.)

Ah, good to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way :) Hats-off to the scriptwriters and actors for beautifully illustrating this kind of bond between the leads, it was one of the main selling points of the drama for me. Actually I think the censorship made it better as far as this aspect is concerned? Because it is not simply romantic love anymore, it became a bond that is way beyond that I can't even find words lol
Speaking of the younger generation in TU (referring to @SuibianX's MV and @CqlisMdzs's comments below) when I…
I agree, I watched the drama first before the novel and I could almost hear the juniors' drama voices lol. They really embodied their characters well. Especially Jingyi, he had a number of lines in the novel that didn't get into the drama but I could imagine the actor flawlessly pulling it off.
Anyway you have two options :) Happy watching!

But yeah NIF is on another level.
