Actually, their appearances are quite significant; they let us watch how the leads maturely handle their past relationships. I really liked how Jingjing dealt with her ex -- she was strong and intelligent when she shut him down.

I always welcome new adaptations of JY's works because the stories are interesting so it's nice to see a new interpretation. Too bad the budget seems pretty low for the recent adaptations.

Wonder if this was filmed years ago and finally releasing now.

From Li Changge to Jingjing, Dilraba is naturally nailing her cute and comedic moments. Pleasantly surprised. Yang Yang plays his reserved and constantly struggling internally well; can feel his emotions being expressed.

I actually hated the first 2/3 of AoL mostly because of Jin Mi and Xu Feng; both of them were so damn clueless of the evil schemes. I couldn't stand her character the most. But thank goodness her character matures toward the end with some really good dialogue.

Shanggu is so much better than Jin Mi. Shanggu started out weak but she's never dumb or clueless. Not to mention she treats everyone with respect regardless of their background because she can relate to being looked down upon. Yet, she doesn't put up with haters like a doormat -- she counters all the criticism and prove her worth.

Funny thing is, of all the MLs in the big xianxa dramas, Xu Feng is the least memorable to me. When I hear of AoL, I think of Jin Mi's character growth and Run Yu's toxic, manipulative behavior. Never really cared about Xu Feng besides his mortal character committing suicide à la Romeo style, his death scene, and his passionate crying scene. As a character as a whole, he's not as interesting as the other MLs. So, to clarify, I'm not a fan of Xu Feng =). I guess both MLs are yandere types since I believe the novel was written with that intent.

When I say toxic, I'm referring to Run Yu's actions toward Jin Mi. Sure, his past was tragic, but that doesn't give him the right to do the things he did to Jin Mi. His obsession with Jin Mi felt more like he finally found a weakness in Xu Feng to exploit.

But Dosan is the princess in this drama. Did you not see the Disney-Princess entrance he did at the party after getting an overnight makeover and the conveniently tailored-fit suit that was randomly borrowed?

Those netizens got mental issues. It's like they hate themselves every time take a look in the mirror, so they need to lash out at celebs who don't fit their ironic beauty standards. I would really love to see pics of these haters lol.

The 2ML in AoL has a lot of fans even though his character was toxic af. I guess yandere fans love that.

You can tell by the look on Bai Jue's face it was heartbreaking for him to stab Tianqi. And when Bai Jue saw his past image in that dream area, Bai Jue ran towards him at first sight. I really appreciated how dynamic these characters and their relationships were.

It's my first time watching the FL and every time she smiles it warms my heart.

I don't know if it's because the minority of Chinese viewers who are crazy and vocal that skewed the reviews but imo, this is one of the best xianxa dramas since TMoPB. (The pacing of this drama is much much better than TMoPB though; TMoPB side love story dragged too much imo)
