People don't like it because the side characters are taking up airtime. Literally: the assistant and work friend, the nephew and friend, the uncle and boss, the niece and friend, the ex and cheater, the other tech guy and FML, the blind date and FML. It's getting away from the main romance and I find myself skipping scenes. When the main couple are together , they don't communicate and it's frustrating.

XW never wanted to be emperor. He wanted revenge/justice for himself and the 300 boys that were sacrificed for the Xue family. His own father and the Xue dowager empress sacrificed him for the Xue family emperor heir. Dowager empress and Xue family continued to manipulate people lives and deaths so they can remain in power. In the past life, after his revenge/justice he secludes himself away and dies. I don't think he was or ever is emperor.
