Hyojoo actually wants to film romance/melo now. She said so in interviews. It's the writer. She doesn't write romance based on her previous works.

10 episodes is solid, especially for the genre
As much as I want more episodes because of my fave I have to agree with you. Most kdramas' story telling decline around the 8th-10th episode.
