I just finished watching the final episode and had to write a RAVING review. I think we can all agree that this BL really blew us away, and the ending was absolute perfection.
I never watched the older adaptions but I absolutely love the Thai adaption. I am also impressed by Bright's acting, he was good in 2gether but even better in F4. But I really hate Thyme, I can't believe I'm supposed to root for him and Gorya.
Despite the characters being called Black and White, the characters in Not Me so far are not 'Black' or 'White'. With that I mean that our Main Characters can be considered heroes for going against the corrupt elite/diplomats who think they're above the law, but at the same time they use violence (arson) to combat them, which is in stark contrast to Unar (Dan) who uses his artworks as social commentary and to critisize the government (like Banksy does). But at the same time, even Dan/Unar held a gun to someone's head, so he's not totally innocent either. Very interesting!!!!
At first, Ep 1 felt kinda rushed but I understand now after watching 3 episodes that it was necessary to move quickly to the plot and not waste time on trivial matters. I thought this was going to be a show about gangs and drugs, but it's about battling ableism, discrimination and the privilege of the elite and rich. The show has themes most people can relate to in some way, not only Thai people, despite being about Thai politics.
Not only the plot is absolutely amazing and very intriguing so far, the characters are also great. Nobody seems two dimensional, some characters really have clear motives for what they're doing and I'm interested to find out what the other character's motives are and what drives them.
So far, Yok is my favorite character ever since I saw his interactions and his talk with his mother and the scene in episode 3 when he sees Unar/Dan. His facial expressions were very good!!
White/Black realizing how privileged he was was all this time thanks to his last name and family was also very interestingly done and I could feel his rage. Gun is an amazing actor!! I hope we will find out more about Black (and Sean) soon too.
I hope more people will watch Not Me, somehow I feel like this show doesn't get much love compared to other shows?
The pacing of the first episode felt a little (not a little...VERY) rushed. One moment the guy was living in Russia, then he moved to Thailand where he ends up in the hospital, gets a call and immediately finds his long lost brother beaten up, and then he immediately decides to take on his identity to revenge him and...so on. It was a little silly almost, and I didn't want to feel that way about this show.
However, this is the only point of 'critique'. I didn't hate it, because the acting and production is very, very good (I mean HELLO?? GUN!!? YESS!) and the story line is interesting and different. I think they just rushed through those scenes to just get it over with in order to proceed to the interesting part of the story. I'm actually happy that they're not wasting any time, but the pacing was a little off-putting (but it's forgivable).
All in all, I'm very intrigued and can't wait to see what will happen in the other episodes. I still gave this a 8 based on the 1st episode (a 9 if the pacing wasn't rushed) and I have very high expectations. Hope the expectations will be met!
I'm only at episode 6 and I think it's a funny BL show but this has been bothering me: why did they not show Ai and Ni kiss?? They showed the no consent kiss of Chon kissing Ton and the almost rape scene but they can't show their kiss? They cut that scene twice when they kissed in front of Tonhon :( I was so disappointed,,,, why would they not show it?
The tension between mix and earth/tian and phu is killing me in this episode!! Especially the scene where Phupa talks to Tian after drinking with his friends and the soap scene haha. I really love this show so much. The acting and chemistry is amazing, directing is genius and I'm really into the storyline. I love how mix uses his facial expressions and shocked he's a rookie actor. Earth is also amazing and I love his lingering looks and his acting is so convincing. I'm gonna miss 1000 stars when it's over. Really hope the mix and earth will work together again in a BL. But 1000 stars isn't over yet!!! Looking forward to next episode. Some people say it's going slow paced, but I don't think so. I'm glad they take the time to tell a story. It's like Cherry Magic (my other favorite BL), the love and attraction is not just physical but seen in the acting, plot, looks between the two, etcetera! I'd like to find something to criticize but so far I don't have anything...maybe the fake fire? It kinda threw me off a little. But that's it really.
I came back just to say how sad i am. First i was angry but now I'm just sad. This show was really wasted on the director and Mame. I watched LBC and TinCan had so much fire together and it made sense. Lbc2/actl TinCan were not the same to me, from their personality change to the storyline change. I was so into the couple in s1 and novel. Ah well. Life goes on.
Very impressed with the first three episode. I think it's one of my favorite BLs already. The chemistry and acting is amazing and all the characters are so lovely.
