mmc (won-jun) was very weak as a character in terms of development and we never got to see him grow on screen outside of college. i don’t even know if i can say he grew in that aspect either bc we focused on doona or jin-ju most of the time that he was shelved until further notice. for example, them taking a spontaneous trip to countryside was dumb bc what about won-jun and his classes and his job? it felt like doona’s mishaps were so big and bright (the irony) that she outshined him as a character. when he did get those chances to show us who he was, it was rushed or extremely vague. what happened to his father? why is his sister sick? what does his mother do? does his sister go to college? like.. who tf is won-jun when he’s not with doona or jin-ju? also, wtf was that trash ass ending? i’m so fucking mad. did they end up together or did they have to concede with the fact that they’re from two different worlds? why couldn’t they make it work? i have so many questions but no real understanding on what this drama was trying to portray or the central theme was.
BUT i will state that the love scenes were very beautiful. idk if it’s bc i haven’t watched k-dramas in so long, but my god has it changed so much! i mean that in a good way. back then when i was growing up, it felt almost taboo to show characters alluding to or portraying sexual scenes in a k-drama. only on special occasions would it fly. now, it’s not that big of a deal & i love it! the kiss scenes have improved as well! it was so nice to see and i loved how attentive, caring, and patient won-jun was with doona. he was able to show her the love she was truly missing from the people around her.
now with jin-ju, i loved her DOWN. she wasn’t the main focus but i rooted for her like nobody’s business. she deserves all the love she can get. i really wish it wasn’t glossed over how abusive and disgusting her father is. i loved how her being in a love triangle with doona and won-jun contributed to her growth instead of her just being a third wheel. it’s her finally having to confess to won-jun and bumping heads with doona that teaches her how to stand up for herself. to not just lay down and take it but to actually get what you want even if it means it’ll cause friction with other people. it was like watching a caterpillar blossom into a beautiful butterfly on screen.
as for the side characters, they were funny and cool. i loved i-ra and her relationship with jung-hoon! i was so happy they were still together and flourishing as a couple in the last episode.
all in all, i don’t think i’d rewatch it, but was a good introduction for me to get back into k-dramas again and find my inner child that i’ve lost now that i’m an adult. also, bae suzy looks AMAZING!
but k-dramas are not always cute, innocent, and fairytale-like. this is why we have different genres because even…
I 100% agree! I watched Kdramas while I was growing up, so it shocked me when I had to realize that the real world isn’t built like that, lol. Thank you for the recommendation! I’m going to go check it out because I try my best to understand the issues different countries face when I’m indulging in their culture.
but k-dramas are not always cute, innocent, and fairytale-like. this is why we have different genres because even…
Not only that, but I just feel like they view South Korea/Korean culture in a romanticized way. Kdramas, in my opinion, has gone downhill in the last couple of years, so it’s not surprising that they’re going to try something new, especially with Netflix under their belt.
but k-dramas are not always cute, innocent, and fairytale-like. this is why we have different genres because even…
don’t get me wrong, i agree with both parties when it comes to the audience and the content they decide to produce. i just think it’s absurd to hold kdramas back because it’s not living up to their fairytale standards.
i have no issues with the storyline within itself because i understand that they’re not romanticizing abuse.
Thing is, most people watching k-drama watch them for their cuteness, innocence, and fairytale-like quality. We…
but k-dramas are not always cute, innocent, and fairytale-like. this is why we have different genres because even we can get tired of seeing the same thing over and over. please stop seeing everything from rose colored glasses.
My only frustration is why is Jojo so weak as a character??? Like sis, speak up! I'm tired of her not fixing her mistakes or clearing things up when it really affects her.
This drama could’ve been better if the writer actually thought out her characters and plot a bit more. It dragged in the later half of the drama and it lost its momentum. I’m so disappointed because he/she had the opportunity to make this drama a fun, lighthearted rom-com but no... they just had to throw in the police investigation BS into it which didn’t even make sense especially for a such a short drama.
Reference Jong Woo – Yes! He should just be homeless! Lol. But while he protests his creepy goshiwon-mates,…
You’re right. I’m starting to believe that he actually likes it there but he doesn’t want to admit it so he’s in denial. You’d think that after MJ texted him about killing his coworker, he’d just up & leave but yet he continues to stay. He’s starting to pick up their habits as well.
JW - just be homeless. It’s better than living with people who you know are not normal. It’s obvious you’re going insane yet you still continue to go back. Saunas exist y’know. I wanna feel bad for you yet at the same time, you keep allowing yourself to hang around them. Does your gut not tell you to run for the hills? Also please just express yourself for once instead of swallowing your anger.
JE - has to be the worst girlfriend I’ve ever witnessed. Not only does she ignore her bf’s cries for help but she makes everything about her. I’m also side-eyeing her & JH because I know that there’s no way she doesn’t notice that JH likes her. Even when her manager points it out, she still allows herself to be in contact with him knowing that she has a bf. Also please express your feelings if you know that you don’t like something.
JH - a piece of shit. Only decides to get close to JW & give him a job so he can see JE more. I can’t wait for JW to put him in his place.
BM - I mean the character speaks for himself: a pervert. I just don’t understand how YJ hasn’t noticed that he likes her & stares at her. Either she knows & likes antagonizing him with JW or she’s just that dense. I say it’s the latter.
JH - a policewoman with a brain.. I like her so much but she can be really dumb sometimes. Why do you insist to go to a place where you know serial killers outnumber you 5:1? Policemen can’t be that dumb. Where’s your logic & common sense? Why do you insist on lurking at places where they can obviously spot you? She has heart but she needs to go in with a clear head instead of just jumping head first because her emotions tell her to.
Brady Bunch - I don’t really have much to say about them besides the fact that they’re not really good at covering their tracks at times. I feel like they come off a bit sloppy with some ego in the mix. Like Ms. Eom is too power hungry & she doesn’t know how to be discreet; The twins actions speak for themselves seeing how they’re so careless even when the cops are around; 313 is disgusting; and Mr. Tooth is biting off more than he can chew by trying to convert JW into becoming just like him.
Where to start.. I'm on episode 15 as of right now but oh my god! This drama is something I haven't seen in a while. It really switched up my expectations of how far korean dramas can go & how versatile they can be. The fact that this drama wasn't some "company-dynamic-to-see-who-can-take-over-and-win-the-public-and-their-affections-along-with-their-money-along-with-some-30-year-old-women-who-happen-to-fall-in-love-but-act-like-they're-six" plot but really flushed out Barro & Unicon as a company along with it's characters says a lot. I actually, for once, cared about what happened to each company & it's counterparts. Granted this drama does have some boring parts but it makes up for it in fleshing out the plot well & going at it's own pace. I have to give credit to the writer because he/she really did their research by putting a lot of thought into how each company addressed issues along with promoting innovative ideas & characters. Like starting off with the presidential election so it allows the viewer to understand what an internet company can/can't do & how they can change the public's perspective so easily. I love how they actually cared for it's viewership instead of just seeing them as cash cows.. which is so refreshing but at the same time isn't overbearing & cheesy.
The only issues that I have with this drama was.. the main leads. Their dynamic was so overbalanced that you have to really pity Park Morgan. Tami's character overall is too suffocating & pessimistic to even enjoy the fruits of her labor. As a viewer, I wanted to cheer for Tami but she makes it hard to let anyone in, especially Morgan. I feel like the writer could of really addressed more of her issues by really putting her in the spotlight a bit more where she's able to understand that she can't continue to live so negatively along with being so insecure. Granted the writer did bring up Tami's issues both in the workplace & her love life (i.e Morgan, Da In, & Scarlett) but it's as if she'd learn her lesson & repeat her same mistakes even though she may have shown character growth. I honestly hated that every time that they were happy, Tami always seem to self-sabotage herself & her relationship because she wasn't confident enough to stand in her own emotions. I think it would've been best for Morgan to leave Tami alone by the end of the drama & Tami to really check her mindset & emotions.
Overall though this drama is a 9.5/10. If you're looking for something with a refreshing plot that really doesn't women as damsels in distress that can handle their own... this is the drama for you. I highly recommend it! :D
Tbh, this drama is kind of bad. It doesn't follow the manga's story line and just borrows its concept, the acting is awful, some of the scenes in this drama are literally a cringefest, and there are some things in this drama's plot that aren't always consistent BUT for some reason this drama is growing on me. I don't even want to like it but the more I watch, the more I find myself becoming interested in the characters and their goals. In a way, I feel like I can relate with So Ah. She wants to get away from her troubles and can't seem to put her trust in anyone. Despite this, she still helps people. And I feel like I can put myself in her shoes. Habaek on the other hand is an asshole like 70% of time but he does pull through. I honestly want to see where the writer will take this story. It's bad but it's the type of bad that it's so bad that it's good (If you catch my drift).
And Hoo Ye is the best character in this drama. He is so cute with his corny jokes and his attempt at trying to help and understand people. It's so rare in a kdrama where you have a chaebol who feels like a human being rather than this uptight guy with loads of cash or a copy-paste asshole who doesn't have the manners to treat others nicely. +1 to the writer for the way she/he created Im Joo Hwan's character.
My expectations are going to be extremely low. I liked NJH in WLFKBJ but I still feel he has a long way to go before he can actually carry a script. His acting still needs some work imo... and SSK is SSK.
On a side note: I hate his wig.. it looks awful imo. And the posters aren't really all that spectacular when you realize that it doesn't really perceive to the fact that it's a story about a water God. If someone looked at these posters they'd probably mistaken this drama to be something angsty or melo.
