"He was a little kid who just wanted to make his dad proud you can't rlly make that a big thing." NO. This is…
Welcome to life of having asian parents.
I mean as far as asian parents go, NDS parent's look tame. Only the father was strict, the mom is team Dosan, and even defends the son at times. But NDS ally in the family, is the last to know about things happening in her son's life. What a great person this NDS is.
I hate Nam Do San so much with his stupid wind analogy, and his stupid lies and selfishness that has caused everyone…
So here is what is going to happen.
The writer had no clue how to write NDS properly, so they allowed him to bumble around like this for 9 episodes. Now that they have all this community feedback, they are going to do a time skip, and erase all the things we don't like about NDS, and retrograde everything we like in HJP to hopefully "fix" the love lines in Start Up.
JP's only mistake was not owning up to his feelings. He hesitated so much that another man took his spot. So yeah,…
I've got mad respect for HJP.
Every time SDM confronts him about why he is helping her HJP struggles so much.
1st Time
SDM ask why HJP lying for NDS. HJP is about to tell the truth before interrupted.
2nd Time
SDM ask why HJP is helping them so much. HJP has no answer, but apparently NDS lied for him, and said they were like brothers.
3rd Time
SDM ask while they are eating the tile fish. HJP pauses, struggles, and eventually says it's because of money.
4th Time
SDM ask who HJP really is, how does he know about the secret place. HJP just stays quiet.
I really believe that it's a huge struggle for HJP to lie to SDM. Maybe KSH makes me believe it's a struggle with his acting.
With NDS, I just don't believe it is. He lies so easily. Every time he is confronted, every time the conversation screams, to tell SDM the truth, he lies effortlessly.
i really felt nam do san's struggle this episode. i also had the same experience before. so here's the tea:i was…
Can I be frank. Just some solid life advice here.
#1 Never ever ever, take the opinion of people on a fictional character seriously, it's fiction in the first place, more dangerously it's Kdrama, where they take fiction, and multiply it by fantasy.
Western shows does a much much much better job of harnessing reality than Kdrama. Kdrama is meant as an escape, not a mirror of reality.
#2 People don't like NDS for a lot of reasons, not just that he is blaming his parents. That's just one reason, there have been multiple reasons since Ep.1. Plus look at reason #1, it doesn't matter what people think about NDS, he is a fictional character, and you should not compared yourself to him. The show is very very unrealistic, just because some things seems similar doesn't make it a mirror.
#3 You are not alone. What you feel is simply a byproduct of filial piety. This is most prevalent in Asian society. Almost all asian families go through some form of this. Some parents are a bit looser in it, some are straight up tiger mommies.
And although it's hard to say otherwise whether the eastern method of parenting is inferior to the western method. A majority of the world's Asians parents still treat their kids these way.
I will tell you this, i'm not sure how old you are, but the older you get, you will find yourself blaming your parents less. Don't worry too much about time. Time wasted is just another part of from Asian parenting that teaches you about prioritization. It's never too late to start your passion. Asian parents just want you to pursue your passion after you have a stable income. A lot of asian parents don't think the Arts are a real job, and makes bad money. And they are partly correct. as great of an artist we may feel we are, when we actually go out in the field, you'll be surprised of how many talented people there are out there, and if we're not good enough, we will not make that much money. And money problem is something Asian parents know well, and don't want their children to experience.
Your not a terrible person, The fact that they are still there pushing you, shows you that they love you and believe in you, in their own asian parenting kind of way.
#5 Some tips from a fellow Asian child
Learn to be happy with what you have. It may not be your passion, but try to find something to love about it.
Communicate more with your parents.
Continue doing film on the side. Start with simple youtube videos. If you see you have an actual talent for it. Start showing your parents how it can become your main career.
In the end, love your asian parents. They may not subscribe to the best method, they not know your mental anguish, but they love you.
Hope these words help! Hang tight, and don't get too invested in the ship wars here on MDL.
NDS: Woe is me, my life sucks, nobody loves me, I only have one thing good in my life. My self esteem sucks that is why I lie a lot. I am a living buddha. I'm awkward with girls. Woe is me!
HJP: Then let's change.
NDS: Lol j/k bro, my life is great, I have 2 parents who love me, 2 best friends, and best of all, I got SDM and Grandma in my corner. See ya later, we going on a group date in my Mercedes Benz!
I wonder if Kang Han Na is happy- she got a main role but not many scenes. Does that mean she gets paid more for…
Kang Han Na: Hey Dad, i'm in this new popular Kdrama called Startup as one of the main leads, i'm even on the promotional posters, let's watch it later.
Dad: Sure thing honey.
Start up is playing on Netflix.
30 minutes into the episode...
Dad: Honey we haven't seen you yet.
Kang Han Na: Shhh dad it's coming
30 more minutes passes by.
Dad: Honey, I don't think your in this episode
Kang Han Na: There over there did you see it?
Dad: See what?
Kang Han Na: You see that arm wearing the brown suit, that's my arm.
Dad: Oh...
Kang Han Na: See! I told you I was one of the Main Leads.
The letter that SDM writes to fake Dosan, i'll type it out here.
Dosan,
I sometimes wonder. That spring, everyone and everything seemed to be leaving me. Without your letters, what would that spring have meant to me. I would have grieved over fallen flowers rather than enjoying the flowers in bloom. The only thing I remember from that spring would have been losing the person I love more than anyone. Thank you for being there for me that spring. thank you for your letters, back then i believe that you existed, now i want to believe that you exist Dosan, I miss you, so I think it's time for me to find you.
Keep in mind adult SDM is the one writing this.
When she talks about the only thing she remembers from that spring would have been losing the person I love more than anyone.
Yes it's reasonable to think she is talking about her dad, but she could just have easily been talking about HJP here. If you go back to episode 1, while she is writing this letter, they show the dad on the bus on the way home, but they also show HJP on a bus moving away.
Keep in mind, the words in EP1 and EP9 are slightly different. In EP1, she actually adds the line...
"...would have been losing the person I love more than anyone, without even having the chance to say goodbye"
HJP never writes SDM after he leaves, and he never even sends here a goodbye letter that he is leaving.
Just a quick question, so until now SDM thought that NDS's birthday is the same with HJP? Can they please give…
Yes, she knew early on they share the same birthday.
Showing too much WIJ is bad for SDM image. Because whenever they show SDM and WIJ, it appears SDM is being petty, and WIJ is just being coolly ignorant about it.
You see, they can't have that. The show has reached the point where they want to show Peak NDS and Peak SDM. So they can't have secondary or tertiary characters outshine them.
So in Ep. 9, they showed masterfully how WIJ is the petty, ungrateful sister, while SDM is the mature, protect my sister even tho were feuding type of girl.
While they "Tried" to give NDS as sad a backstory as HJP.
All of this is meant to solidify the romantic bond of NDS and SDM. How successful they were? only the ratings and the MDL comments will tell.
I totally get some people. They want to be with a guy like NDS who: 1. Believes in you whole heartedly, trusting…
I didn't mean it as an attack so I apologize.
We're having a discussion, based on what I feel the ideal guy should be. You listed facts about NDS, I merely challenged them, because a lot of what you wrote about NDS fits HJP quite well as well.
That maybe the only ending i'll accept now.
If SDM continues to lead on HJP, and Grandma continues to ask HJP to sacrifice. I don't know...
If ep 10 doesn't do HJP justice, i'm going to drop this.
I mean as far as asian parents go, NDS parent's look tame. Only the father was strict, the mom is team Dosan, and even defends the son at times. But NDS ally in the family, is the last to know about things happening in her son's life. What a great person this NDS is.
When things go wrong, the easiest people to blame is always the parents...
NDS lies, and SDM believes everything he says.
Big diff between SDM and NDS.

Time skip coming anyway, so i'm sure it will "fix" a lot of the problems. LOL
If Ep 10 trashes HJP more, i'm just going to drop this.
I don't even think there is much interesting plot line left. I'll just read spoilers later to find out who revenge guy is.
NDS: Woe is me, my life sucks, nobody loves me, I only have one thing good in my life. My self esteem sucks that is why I lie a lot. I am a living buddha. I'm awkward with girls. Woe is me!

This is why I like HJP.
I heard there will be a time skip soon. And you know what they say, Time Skips fix all flaws.
No sarcasm i'm being honest.
It's the super nice and rational MDL posters that we should worry about in real life to be honest.
