Saying a show is not universally not liked is light years apart from saying it is beloved globally.Please read all the news items in my comment before distorting it. Honestly, why this much hatred for this show that you're prepared to shoot yourself in the foot all the time to vilify it? Come to think of it, why spend day after day in a comment section for a show you despise?

I wasn't the one who declared "local viewership is no longer a key metric". It's tiresome and useless arguing with somebody who doesn't listen to arguments, so I'll just point you to these articles:

I think I know where this hatred towards TKEM is coming from. It seems you're a fan of IOTNBO, perhaps of Kim Soo-hyun? Defending a show consistently rating below 8% shown in the same channel as one that garnered 21.683% while lambasting another that garnered 12.9% in some episodes, even when no less than TV industry insiders have already declared local viewership not to be a key metric, is telling, senseless and frankly, tedious.

I didn't say I doubted the list Hessa showed, just that I was (pleasantly) surprised TKEM is as high as #3 in Korea Netflix viewership for 2020 so far, considering the controversies and criticisms it endured there.

I wasn't the one who concluded "local viewership (SK Nielsen ratings) is no longer a key metric." Read the news items from Korea Times and IBTimes again.

I didn't see discussions about those amusing bickering moments here. From the plaza to the police station to the lobby of the hotel to his proposal to the end of episode 4, those moments were crucial to showing the development of the leads' relationship and chemistry. At the least, these moments showed his persistence and her slowly crumbling belief that he was just a delusional crazy weirdo. These moments also showed two strong individuals who parried each other's attacks effortlessly. Those confessions in the bamboo forest, Tae-eul's "Not everyone in the world can be brave, So I decided to be brave" and Lee Gon's, "A rower, a mathematician, a well-grown orphan, and the owner of the Four Tiger Sword. A king who has never been asked such a question and is trying his best not to panic", were searing insights into what they were.

What is funny about comparing a girl to the number 0? Every girl, nay, everyone, wants to be deemed a 10. Thinking Tae-eul, who admitted to considering the earth is flat, would appreciate being compared to 0 for whatever reason was clueless and naive at the least. This declaration as well as his proposal showed how endearingly clueless and naive he was with women. Comparing her to a bear was also hilarious, especially when she answered, "All right... I'll go and proclaim myself the mother of the people!"

But did I hear any mention of these moments here? Nope, just whines about how boring those episodes were, how the leads lacked chemistry and how rushed the romance was. It's like declaring a food you refuse to taste horrible.

I'm surprised TKEM is that high in the list in SK since I thought TKEM was not much appreciated there by both SBS and Netflix viewers. The list I showed is worldwide, which holds more meaning as far as the overall performance of a show is concerned.

The comparison between the 193 million subscribers in Netflix and 21 households in SK was to explain why even Korea Times conceded that "local viewership is no longer a key metric". During the airing of TKEM, it was called a flop because of its lower-than-expected domestic TV ratings. Now that It's Okay To Not Be Okay and Backstreet Rookie are experiencing even lower viewership ratings, SK TV executives took a hard look at their industry and realized that the low viewership ratings were mostly caused by the surge in popularity of streaming services, especially Netflix. While Netflix was already around before TKEM, its popularity in SK shot up the last few months.

SK TV insiders found out that "Korean TV series with fewer viewers can still make an international splash thanks to streaming platforms such as Netflix... a low viewership has not pushed the K-drama industry over the edge... Those statistics are from Netflix data for 2020. Those are not my invention. See the news items. They might help broaden your horizons. Netflix has 193 million subscribers all over the world. Goblin still being in the list shows its classic appeal and I think it's because of Netflix viewers who saw Kim Go Eun in TKEM and were impressed with her. While TKEM was airing, around May and June, Boys Over Flowers was in the list.

I've been wondering about that and I think the reason MDL viewers are not so fond of this drama is because they mostly watch kdramas and are happy with the typical rom-coms and other familiar story lines.

TKEM has an unusual story. The humor is sophisticated. The king courting his lady love using math, comparing her to the number 0 is hilarious, but I don't think it was appreciated by MDL viewers since I'm not seeing any mention of it here. The bickering between the lead characters in the first few episodes is also funny, reminding me of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, but again, I don't see any mention of it here.

I've heard a lot of issues with their chemistry, is it still worth the watch? Thanks!
While this show has other interesting things going for it aside from the romance, the chemistry between the lead characters, once you see it, is sensational. Some viewers took a while to see the chemistry, I saw it from ep 1, even though I never saw Kim Go Eun before and I only saw Lee Min ho in Heirs before, a show I watched mainly because of the writer Kim Eun Sook.

It appears those who did not understand the story also did not see the chemistry, but those who did, loved it. There are fan fictions on twitter and reddit dedicated to it. There are scenes in ep 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 and 16 that caused quite a sensation in social media, lol!

I had to emphasize this because I noticed in your previous comments that you took the 121 seconds as the number of seconds corresponding to the second prime number which it is not. The second prime number is 3 (as shown in the list of the first prime numbers in my comments) and the number of seconds corresponding to it per LG's equation is 9."

My calculations clearly show 121 as the square of 11, the 5th prime number. It appears you're the one not reading my comments.

2. Why was Lee Lim interested in the Manpasikjeok? He wanted near immortality. While he has the Manpasikjeok, he can live possibly 3K+ human years per my calculations earlier, not to mention the afterlife. Even if the time freeze happens only, say, twice a week, in 10 years, that would be 1040 times, corresponding to a prime number of 8291 and time freeze duration of 2.18 years. In 20 years that would be 2080 times, corresponding to a prime number of 18143, duration of roughly 10 years. In 30 years, that would be 3120 times, corresponding to a prime number of 28649, duration of roughly 26 years. As you can see, not only is the duration increasing, the increase in the duration is also increasing. As I mentioned earlier, a total time freeze, that is, 0 time, is not mathematically possible, thus a time freeze duration of infinity is also not mathematically possible. When I said infinity in my last comment, I meant a very high number. However, imagine a time freeze of 2 years or 10 years or 26 years or more. LG will have to stay in the gate while the world is on freeze so he does not get old. Truly a lonely existence. I guess he can travel to the other worlds, but he won't be with Tae-eul.

I find it intriguing when people leave comments that require answers before saying they're leaving the conversation.

Regarding the difference between 4 and 5.2 months, note that the approximations were explicitly mentioned. Lee Gon said "1 minute here is about an hour outside" and "26 years roughly equivalent to 4 months". Per previous calculations, "roughly 4" is more like 4.5 and "about 1 hour" is more like 1 hour and 8 minutes, both within limits considered acceptable. In your example, if we had both agreed that you can pay the approximate amount and had set the limits of that approximate amount, then if 80,000 falls within the limits, then I'll have to accept it. lol

I had to emphasize this because I noticed in your previous comments that you took the 121 seconds as the number of seconds corresponding to the second prime number which it is not. The second prime number is 3 (as shown in the list of the first prime numbers in my comments) and the number of seconds corresponding to it per LG's equation is 9.

2. Please try to understand the calculations I showed you if you want to understand this puzzle. It's really quite simple. You don't even need to make calculations to know that the duration of time freeze will eventually reach infinity (time freeze forever) because the prime number corresponding to the occurrence of the freeze will keep on increasing, thus the duration (square of that prime number) will keep on increasing. Lee Gon mentioned the 62nd prime number to illustrate the fact that the duration keeps on increasing every time the freeze occurs; it used to be seconds, soon it will be days then months, years, eventually infinity.

1. Regarding the "26 years roughly equivalent to 4 months" comment Lee Gon made, it is actually another puzzle. 'Glad you pointed this out. While explaining the time difference between inside and outside the gate in ep 5, Lee Gon said "1 minute here is about an hour outside". Note he didn't say "exactly equal" in either case. But we can use the "roughly 4 months" remark to give us a better estimate of the time difference inside and outside the gate.

What values would make one say "roughly 4"? It would be between 3.5 and 4.5. What values would make one say "about an hour"? Between 50 and 70 minutes.

Calculating:
1. Years between Dec 1994 and April 2020 = 25.33
2. If "roughly 4" means 3.5, the time difference between gate and outside = 25.33 * 12 * 30 * 24 * 60/(3.5 * 30 * 24 * 60) = 87 minutes => outside our meaning of about 1 hour
3. If "roughly 4" means 4.5, the time difference between gate and outside = 25.33 * 12 * 30 * 24 * 60/(4.5 * 30 * 24 * 60) = 68 minutes => within our meaning of about 1 hour

Thus, Lee Gon's mathematical reputation is intact. lmao

2. Please see ep 5. The reason cited for why the balloon stayed in place was because there was no "light, wind and air" in the gate. There was no mention of any relationship between balloon staying up and time.

In real-life, it is not scientifically possible for time to stop forever. The equation for time-freeze duration in this drama was fabricated. Mathematicians would probably find the use of primes and squares amusing and cute (as I did). Having said that, the calculations were solid, i.e. the duration values on Lee Gon's board conformed to the equation. You were moving in the wrong direction, that was why I kept pulling you to the correct one. I have explained most of this in my second spoiler comment, item #8 regarding time freeze and I had assumed you had read my comments thus I took shortcuts in my later discussions.

Let me try again, this time chronologically:
1. Lee Gon found out that the second time the freeze happened it lasted for 121 seconds. Note that when he said "second" he did not mean the second prime number. At this point, he did not know yet he was dealing with prime numbers. "Second" meant the second time he experienced time freeze. The first time was in the park.

2. The subsequent time duration values were increasing and he realized they were squares of prime numbers. He then knew he was dealing with the series of prime numbers and the formula he came up with was:
duration of time freeze = the square of the prime number corresponding to the occurrence number of the freeze

3. The "the occurrence number of the freeze" means the first time freeze occurred, the second time freeze occurred, third time freeze occurred, etc. It is increasing, that is why the duration will keep increasing.

4. Please re-read my comments. They were seriously horribly misunderstood. And I apologize, I took short-cuts in my explanation as I assumed you knew basic TKEM rules:

1. Just as Lee Lim aged slowly when he stayed in the gate (he looked young at 70), so would Lee Gon and Tae-eul. This is because time in the gate is 60 times slower than the outside world (mentioned in ep 5, 1 min in gate ~ 1 hour outside) and I assume that when LG and TE are traveling through the gate, they take in the characteristics of the gate, including slow aging. Note that "time moving slowly" is relative to the outside world. Within the gate, a bullet would move relative to anything else in the gate the way it would move in the outside world relative to other things in the outside world, i.e. lightning-speed.

Let's say LG reigned until he was 50 years old (he would probably abdicate before it became apparent he was not aging) and he and Tae-eul time-traveled through the gate until their mortal lives are spent. Then let's say they lived up to 100 years time-traveling through the gate, meaning for 50 years, they aged 1/60 the rate they would have aged outside. Thus, if they lived for 50 years in the gate, this is equivalent to 3000 years outside. No wonder Lee Lim sought immortality!

2. You mentioned that LG time-traveling to save himself was obvious from ep 1. I agree it was obvious which was why I expected a twist and gave examples of twists that could have made the savior arc more exciting. I repeat, 2 and 3 are just examples of twists. But they showed the richness of this story that such scenarios could easily be whipped up. However, all these scenarios were based on past events. Figments of imagination, when applied to existing materials such as this drama, should not just be pulled out of the air but consistent with the rest of the story, not contradict already known events.

The numbers on the board are squares, not square roots. Whether LG saying "square root" instead of "square" was a slip on LMH part or script or Netflix translation becomes irrelevant when he said that the 62nd time the time freeze happens, time will stop for a day. Whether the operation is square or square root is immediately resolved. Any mathematician would instantaneously figure out that 121 is square of 11, the 5th prime number. The key clues of the puzzle are (1) prime numbers (2) 62nd number in the series evaluates to 1 day.

1. Plot-hole for those who don't care to flex their imagination; exciting opportunities for those who do. In the real world, some religions believe in eternal life after death. The eternal life I envision in TKEM world is similar. Per ep 15, the obelisk grants whoever passes it eternal life. Lee Gon and Tae-eul would grow old very slowly to a ripe old age of 3000 or more (a day in the gate is equivalent to 60 days outside). When they die, their immortal souls would travel the universe together, forever.

2. As mentioned several times, LG traveling back to 1994 was too obvious and boring, so I imagined more exciting scenarios such as those in 2 and 3.

3. LG and TE having a son is one possible scenario I whipped up to make the savior less boring. The scenarios I mentioned in 2 and 3 are figments of my imagination.

The 96% is my review of the show since I did not find so-called loop-holes. I found the acting, OST, pacing, editing, chemistry, direction, story all excellent. It seems to me some reviewers let their hatred of the stars or the writer get in the way of appreciating the quality of this drama. I also think bandwagon effect has a lot to do with the negative reception of the drama. Because of the low SBS rating, people thought there was something wrong with it. The controversies (possibly sabotage) also undermined the production, making viewers critical of the show. And people who are eager to criticize will find things to criticize.
