The power of a great actor. He could make a scene of him just walking to Huajun's house and looking around her room so captivating. You could feel his excitement, at the same time wariness, and then comes that haunted and melancholy expression on his face as he most probably remembers the past while feeling uncertain about the future. Dylan's acting prowess and charisma are undeniable.
After that scene in ep 22, I've been crying everytime Runming's face is shown. So good and noble. He has been talking about wanting to see the "light". 'Hope he saw the light at his last moment. Or maybe he saw it in Jiashu. Might he have foreseen at that last moment that by saving Jiashu, he performed his greatest service to his country?
Jiashu writing to Runming in his journal is heartbreaking and healing at the same time ðŸ˜
This drama's antis in Douban are getting super petty, whining at every superficial thing they can whine about. Now, it's about Dylan appearing in only 5 minutes in an episode. What's to whine about? Ye Hua, the iconic male lead of the much-loved Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms doesn't appear until the 10th episode.
These antis refuse to see the beauty of this priceless treasure, the value of which cannot be defined by ratings or how much airtime Dylan gets or whether or not he gets the girl.
I'm in awe of the prescience of the teachers and administrators of Tsinghua, Peking and Nankai universities for believing that it was important to preserve cultural knowledge and talents for when the country needed to rebuild itself. They were responsible for the best young minds in the country, the students of their best schools, and they took that responsibility seriously.
My heart swells with admiration at the passion, maturity and courage of the students who were willing to follow their teachers anywhere to study, some walking 3500 miles from Changsha to Kunming for 68 days to their new school, braving hunger, fatigue, injury, rain, fleas, etc.
The dedication and patriotism of everyone involved as well as the importance placed on education is awe-inspiring.
This drama shows some of the reasons China is a superpower today. It's a great inspiration for any country undergoing turbulent times and for those who are trying to find out how they could best serve their country. It's a great lesson about making the most out of the worst situation and rising from the ashes.
I think this might have something to do with one of the new rules in c-ent talked about in Unchained Love discussion…
I agree. If c-ent really forbids romance in a war drama they should also have cut the romance between Pei and Yuerong. Seems like the board of censors was really just targeting Dylan again.
If anyone has links to deleted scenes, please share! They said that with 40 episodes, they deleted down to 39…
I think this might have something to do with one of the new rules in c-ent talked about in Unchained Love discussion section "Why scenes were cut".
The specific rule applicable here is: "Romance dramas packaged as military dramas will not pass review". Perhaps, to pass review, the romance was minimized.
I wonder whether Dylan having no powerful backer is the reason his dramas are being cut mercilessly. Some "rules" look like they are not strictly enforced. The steamy love scenes in Unchained Love were cut allegedly because he was a high-traffic star. Yet, there are new dramas being released with high-traffic stars that have steamy scenes. C-ent is grossly unfair.
Yea, her mom has fallen ill. Now she feels she can't go to study after all (ep.14)
For her mom's sake. At first, I didn't understand Runming. He is not stupid. Surely, he knew that Huajun accepted him only because of her mom. Yet, he looks really happy about it. Then I remembered, in China, arranged marriages are common. It's not unusual for couples to get married reluctantly and hope love will blossom eventually.
Interview with Dylan Wang and Zhou Ye for the drama in 2020. They get along so well and are so cute together.…
I understand Dylan was picked out of hundreds or thousands of young men who auditioned for the role of Jiashu. The production team certainly picked the right guy.
Yea, her mom has fallen ill. Now she feels she can't go to study after all (ep.14)
Oh, in ep16, Huajun told Runming her mom has liver disease. This was what I was afraid of, that her mom would have terminal ailment and make a last request from her concerning Runming.
A Twitter post about challenges faced by Youth In the Flames of War:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'm…
according to a Douban post, the Youku comment area is now available
To those who can read Chinese, was the letter Huajun received in ep13, probably relating to her mom, decipherable? That is, does it explain why she was crying in her room before Jiashu checked up on her?
I think she has been having feelings for Jiashu for a while, that's why she broke up with Runming. It's probably…
Huajun is truly remarkable. As Jiashu says, she is always true to herself. So selfless too, ever-ready to help others. No wonder two outstanding young men are in love with her. I actually don't mind if she ends up with Runming as he embodies perfection for a young man, so noble and gentlemanly and so in love with her. She would be good for Jiashu though. She would be able to help him realize his full potential

I can't remember when this passed review.
