The ending of this drama reminds me of the ending of Citizen Kane, considered by many critics to be the greatest movie ever made. The last scene of Citizen Kane shows a sled with a brand of Rosebud being tossed into the fire, its ashes rising up in smoke and the camera zooming out of his estate until it rests on a no-trespassing sign. That's it. But it's loaded with symbolism, showing the futility of a life focused on gaining wealth and power. This scene always make me tear up. It has been a subject of many essays.
Likewise, the ending of Unchained Love is loaded with symbolism. That last shot could occupy a Literature class for hours on discussions about oppression and its many chains shown in this drama. And how love prevailed.
I still couldn't move on from this show, it was just so beautiful. DFQC is the best hero/antihero/character I've…
I have never seen Esther before. I was annoyed not so much with her voice but her whining as well as her pouty expression. The high voice, whine and pout felt bratty and seemed like she was trying to be cute. Anyway, I held on because of Dylan and in ep 9, I got hooked. From then on, Orchid became more tolerable. In the end, I really admired her character and LBFAD has become one of my best cdramas ever.
What is one of your favorite scenes and why? How/why does it speak to you? Details! I really want to know! Spoilers…
The scene that made me realize this drama is a cut above other Xianxia dramas is in ep 9 when DFQC reveals himself to save Orchid. Another favorite scene is in ep 29 when Orchid survives her punishment and DFQC comes to get her and they walk out of the hall to the chants of "Moon Queen". I love how Roc Chen's background music makes this scene even more glorious. Yet another favorite scene is when Immortal and Moon Tribe realms fight the evil lord side by side. And the ending, when DFQC says "I'm back" is another favorite.

one of my favorite scenes is when DFQC flicks a tear impatiently. Dylan Wang's expression and movement are so natural and funny, this never fails to crack me up
How come this has so low rating here?I saw the douban is pretty high and receive praise in many places..
Maybe a lot of viewers here expected a drama, especially since there is a kdrama, Gaus Electronics, that was based on the same webtoon. Those who are aware this is a sitcom would appreciate how it has both humorous and heart-warming moments. Another thing, this is satire and I noticed that not many regular drama viewers appreciate this kind of humor.
this is a sitcom. The ending reminds me of that of Seinfeld that placed the characters in a rather sticky situation. The humor actually reminds me of a lot of western sitcoms, though I found this funnier and warmer.
It has been performing well in Maoyan, Aiman, VLinkage and other Chinese ratings charts but I didn't realize this was so well-loved in China. Congrats Zheng Kai, Chen Yu Qi, Dylan Wang and the whole production team! šššš
I just finished watching it and im so annoyed, the progress of the drama was really amazing but now I can't give…
I was also dismayed that Xun'er didn't take his body and at least bury him. But maybe its because she saw Yi Xian take him and since the girl calls him husband, maybe she thought Yixian has the right to have him.
'Watched this out of curiosity about why it garnered more than 20 billion views. I enjoyed it. The story is so engrossing and Leo Wu's acting is quite impressive.
As I've already watched the Korean version, I honestly expected more from this one. Not as well arranged as Gaus…
This is a sitcom, not a regular cdrama, with the following format: a comedy skit at the start, the main story, another skit at the end. Also, this was filmed earlier.
Bai Ma Shaui being literally a third wheel š¤£š¤£š¤£ Up to the end, this series kept serving laughter and heartwarming moments one after another. The way the officemates secretly supported Tianran and Sisi's "secret" romance was both funny and cute. And what Tianran and Sisi did to save the other's job was touching. I'm gonna miss this daily dose of laughter.
Iām about to rewatch the whole show is too funny
i've been re-watching fave episodes like 5, 15, 18, 20, 32, 33, 34. But after all the episodes are up, I'm planning to watch them all again. This has become my daily dose of laughter š¤£
Re-watching this for the nth time while waiting for new episodes of the sitcom Never Give Up created by the same production team. I'm loving the sense of humor in both series, though UL is more drama than comedy while NGU is more comedy than drama. UL is a satire about oppression; NGU is a satire about the rat race.
UL is like an onion with several layers that reveals another perspective when you peel off a layer. For example, on the surface, it looks like Xiao Duo and Bu Yinlou are committing adultery when BYL becomes Emperor Murong Gaogong's consort. BYL even teases XD about it. But their marriage in ep 20 is valid for that period (other dramas like Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms have scenes like it). Yinlou tells Tongyun that Xiao Duo is her only husband. But because XD and BYL are less powerful than the emperor, they can't protect their marriage and are made to feel adulterous when they get together. BYL actually committed adultery with the emperor when she became his consort while secretly married to XD. But how relevant is adultery when it concerns the emperor who has multiple wives? In fact, the emperor committed another crime when he married BYL. She is his brother's widow, so according to the law, he is committing incest. But again, being an emperor gives him the audacity to publicly claim BYL as his.
All of these complications underscore the power that monarchs hold over their subjects, more so when the monarch abuses such power as Murong Gaogong does. The suffocating presence of oppression is so overpowering throughout the series that viewers who feel it should rejoice at the ending when the chains of oppression loosen their grip.
