I have been watching, and half way enjoying it.. The ML is so handsome and the FL is started to grow on me.. but…
I started watching because of the the goofy trailer & the leads , they are SO cute and good-looking! Along the way i realized, the cinematography, the framing, the sets, wardrobe, and especially the hair accessories all look pretty, and *not cheap* o_O Pleasantly surprised indeed! :)

Can we also appreciate they decided to maintain the 18year age gap, just like actors in the movie version?! Frankly both set of actors do not look more than 10 years apart, but this attention to casting detail is amazing! <3

I believe it's the styling of SY in count your lucky stars (and literally every other drama) which makes her look like a 16 year old. It looks creepy because SY looks like a minor, and not cuz JY is a 2001's hit heartthrob! Pair him with Zhao Lusi, and i think she can make the pairing work! To think ZLS is 2 years *younger* than Shen Yue! :O *laughs in bob-cut hair* SY must fire her stylist asap. Or not. Because let's face it, she will eternally look like a teenager, even her late 30's! T_T
I too am a software engineer getting a masters in cyber security. I often laugh at all the fancy graphics and…
oof, the stereotypes, enforcement of a false-dichotomy and shoving it down your throat is pretty much prevalent everywhere. If you pursue a 'masculine' profession, you are automatically expected to get rid of your 'feminine' identity. :/ and if you don't, you're treated like an airhead! :(
What I love about historical/costume C-drama OSTs is the fusion composition between modern-day lyrics and instruments with traditional string/ wind instruments! <3
1) Story of Yanxi Palace OST: Excellent fusion composition, featuring modern instruments like acoustic guitars, piano and modern day beats with guzheng, Chinese flutes, traditional stone xylophone, etc. Some songs even feature traditional Chinese opera verses. Pair this with Qing-dynasty Forbidden city and Morandi colour scheme, the MVs are visually stunning.
2) The King’s Woman: ‘Love Song’ & ‘Love hasn’t ended’. Both have a strong piano track as its foundation, with Guzheng, Chinese flute and another bowed instrument (I cannot identify!) layered through the compositions! The cinematography of the show isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but the visuals of both the MVs is stunning again, capturing the gradual progress of the storyline well.
Other such OSTs include ‘Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms’, ‘The Untamed’, ‘Princess Agents’, etc which have a similar feature of blending traditional instruments in fusion compositions. But I believe these OSTs are ‘better enjoyed’ with the context/story of the show, and not as stand-alone MVs.
OMG LOL, JUST THE TECHNOLOGY IN GENERAL. HOW DID THOSE YELLOW SPY GLASSES WORK :0Yes, I know! I understand procrastinating,…
hahahah!...i remember somebody commenting 'google glasses' in the comment section of Healer xD
The situation regarding CS is kind of tragic here, since everybody is trying to get into that major. If they can't make it, they'd still compete for coding/programming jobs which prioritizes CS students! :)
While most of them looked down on anybody who didn't use linux or ubuntu (basically clicked using a mouse instead of 'typing in commands') :P they were really helpful as the go-to people who could fix ANYTHING, had the most brilliant system recs, and were always helpful in solving scripting logic errors! <3
Can we all agree, the Ahjumma from Healer and her incredibly (un)realistic hacking scenes, being all 'superhero & vigilante', deserves some SERIOUS love on this article? ^^ *raps keyboard furiously* :P
Also, Love O2O was incredibly unrealistic in their depiction. How tf such lazy students who game all day, manage to get into Tsinghua (Asian Harvard), is beyond me! The CS/ engineering kids in my country are all glued to 3 monitor screens, 2 keyboards and a crusty old chair for about 20 hours a day...! It's crazy out here :/ Even the non-CS kids are programming and coding in their 'free time'. The kid who wins the hack-a-thon in Love O2O (played by Vin Zhang) seems like a more accurate depiction, imo! :D
A little off-tangent here.....but anybody feel costume/ historical dramas from C-dramaland do a better job at OSTs than their counterpart Saeguks...? The modern 'k-pop' style music EVEN in Saeguks are really jarring, and take away from the viewing experience. :/ Is it just me? :O The OSTs really *can* make or break a drama!... (happy realization!) :P [Yanxi Palace did an amazing job with their soundtrack, and it definitely added to the feels of that drama!] ^^
The Crash Landing on You OST is a great choice to include! What was your reaction to listening to a song that…
I will tell you of other related experiences.
1) When known popular songs feature in your drama (as fan-service). A good example would be the entirety of reply 1988 series. It is a truckload of feels and nostalgia. Like ‘xihuan ni’ by kit chan playing in the recently aired ‘you are my destiny’; ‘qing fei de yi’ sung by harlem yu himself, on MG2018, and many more! ^^
2) When memorable OSTs from a drama appear in the most unexpected ways: a live-stream or random tiktoks. I am immediately transported back to that drama, and lose focus of what’s happening on screen, because to me, 'that song' = 'moments from the drama'. The most recently it happened on a Happy Camp clip, when the MC was singing ‘kao jin dian dian’ from ISWAK. There was no instrumentation, and I don’t understand Mandarin. But it was an immediate association to the drama! *_*
Some other dramas that had such OSTs (for me) include Full House (OG), Hana Yori Dango, ISWAK (OG), Goong, Meteor Garden (OG), Autumn’s Concerto, TMOPB…I can identify them *anywhere*, and also probably because they are really old! :D

If it’s a song that really catches my attention (like from a douyin/ insta video), thanks to the internet, it’s really easy to identify which drama it is from! But it sadly reduces the ‘eureka’ moment of accidentally stumbling upon it while watching a new drama! :'(
Ah, the good ol’ days of the dark ages (without internet, lol!). To answer your question, yes it happened (just once) very recently to me, and I found it so gratifying! [identified ‘moonlight’ from TROTAR as its opening song while watching, it was SO much fun!!] xD I am yet to watch the dramas mentioned in the last category on my prev. comment. I am SURE they’ll leave me with ALL the feels, when I come across those songs! T__T
Rather than OST, i would call it the 'defining music' of the show/ series/ drama. We’d be lucky if they decide to give us an ENITRE memorable OST instead of just one or two songs. Most memorable OSTs (to me) are often from some of the highest rated shows, and almost ALWAYS from some of my most memorable ones (even if not highly-rated due to technical aspects). But I agree with the author, a good OST does add to the viewing experience, though determining liking the show and its OSTs 'in what order', is often like resolving the ‘chicken or the egg’ issue!
Most memorable OSTs: -Crash Landing on You, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, Autumn’s Concerto (played almost EVERYWHERE in restaurants, to malls, to supermarkets, karaoke), Meteor Garden (OG)…
Memorable songs: -Healer: ‘You’ by Ben; -Before we get married: ‘I miss you more’ by Bii; -Mars: ‘Ling’ by Alan Kuo; -Descendants of the Sun: ‘Once again’ by Kim na Young, ‘Every time’ by Punch; -Goong: ‘Perhaps Love’; -Bromance: ‘Back in Time’ by Bii…….
Shows that have already become memorable due to some songs I stumbled upon before watching! -Scarlet Heart Ryeo: ‘Say yes’ by Punch; -It’s okay that’s love: ‘I love you’ by Yoon Mirae; -Itaewon Class: ‘Start’ by Gaho; -Flower of Evil: ‘Feel you’ by Shin Young Jae
omg you're right, lol! this one is adapted from a Chinese novel so idk if it's written before or after DOTS ;D
i left a comment for you on the second photo in the gallery! On a closer look, that photo also looks like a scene from DOTS :) i finished watching it a few days back so it's quite fresh in my brain!
@Cho Na....if i am not mistaken, this scene is ALSO quite similar to another one in DOTS. The story might be adapted from a chinese novel, but i think they'll be paying homage to DOTS quite frequently (via sets, styling and dialogues) cashing on the popularity, as well as avoiding any risk of censoring, post-hallyu ban.. :D
Pleasantly surprised indeed! :)

i had already thought about 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 (A & B) and 11 already as dream pairings! ^^
Such toxicity indeed!
