Yi Jin keeps drawing a line between him and Hee Do, "high schoolers date high schoolers and adults data adults"…
Yeah, I don't think of Yi Jin as an adult as much as I think that he's just been forced to grow up overnight. Which is why at 21 (Korean Age 22), he comes across with a far more somber, and adult vibe, than his other peers/ friends do! :') He's still a kid at heart, and he gets to be that around Hee-Do, and I think that's wonderful... romance-aside! :D
If Kim Min Chae is indeed Yi-Jin's daughter.. I will kill whoever kept him away from her life. Even if it's Hee-Do (or her mum). Because all Yi-Jin wants in his life is to have a happy family for himself. π
I swear to god the translation of this j-dorama is SO bad, I will come back to re-watch, once I master the language, because I KNOW just HOW much of the nuance and angst was lost in translation. The botched-up translation of the title alone is enough to make me livid!!!!
It's even more infuriating that the phrase 'boku wa mada kimi o aisenai koto ga dekiru' features in the ending song (also Ren's song for Yo) and is STILL translated so poorly. And if you miss out on the essence of the phrase, the meaning behind those words, you can NEVER understand WHY Yo reacts the way she does after listening to it. I'm sorry to say, but half of the viewers will NEVER get the depth of emotions behind Ren's song. They will NOT get the tragedy behind what appears to be a wonderful & fulfilling friendship. Ugh. -_-
i hope thyme gets to eat it π€§ our gorya working hard on that adorable cookies π₯Ί
He won't eat them at first and think he's going to keep them 'safe' forever as they are the first 'gift' from Gorya! But they are meant to be eaten or they'll spoil. The guys cant get the point across to him, cuz Thyme's dumb, lol! Ren will snatch a cookie and eat it, because he likes to trigger people for 'fun'. Thyme will lose it. I think that's when the mock-pillow fight starts from trailer no. 2.! :'D
I've been trying hard to reflect on whether I'm giving the show more credit than it is due, yet I just haven't…
I'd also like to add, that Gorya not asking for an instant apology is quite reflective of the thought-process women undergo in the face of violence and abuse. It's not OOC of Gorya NOT to call out Thyme for his outburst by the end of ep 7. Why? Because women have been programmed by patriarchy to always reflect internally, and blame themselves for the abuse, thinking 'oh, I must have done something to deserve that.' Gorya's flashbacks to 'I lied to him about the phone', 'I did not trust him on the Tesla situation', 'I hugged Ren in public' etc. just shows how deeply ingrained the victim-blaming culture is, that not even somebody as aware/ woke as Gorya can escape its toxicity. In a way, it's quite real that she would somehow link her actions to Thyme's display of rage, be the first to see HER own mistake, apologize for it and forgive him all at one go. She's a 15 year old girl living in a Confucian society. I don't expect her to be as forthright in demanding justice for the kind of violence that happened.

I only have to add that other versions have had goldfish memory regarding the bullying and assault scenes. The entire arc of red-cards & assault are happily brushed under the rug never to be seen again. f4:T has already proven it does not brush things under the rug. Gorya's trauma re: the bullying and school-mate assault has made onto the screen twice as her own flashbacks, recalling the horror. They also sometimes go one step further & add social commentary. Let us give the show-makers some benefit-of-doubt, and trust they are going to give Thyme's violence adequate closure by making Gorya call him out, and demand an apology in the future, the moment she bursts at her seams. She's done it twice- like when she was shoved by Ren, or had her shoe kicked and vandalized, and then proceeded to retaliate! :D
So far, the only similarity between AHS and Greg Hsu, is that both were considering to debut as boy band members, but at the last-minute decided to switch career paths!! xD xD Ahh, the serendipity! π
What if he's the creepy psychologist? That would fit? :")
Patrick has Hallyu looks, is tall, and has beautiful puppy-eyes. Was 23 when he shot for SD1D. I can think of 10 other actors who would fit better. Kim Dong Hee, Park Jinyoung, Yook Seungjae, Shin Hyun Seun, heck... even Ahn Jae Hyun (I don't discriminate based on age, I only need someone who can connivingly look the part, like Alice did as Yunru in her uniform despite being 35 at the time). I mean, get Nam Da Reum to do it before he runs off to the military! T_T Nvm, I got carried away. I had more people in mind for the leads, hadn't really given MJJ too much thought! Though I know this guy is severely miscast, and needs to play the creepy psychologist instead! :')
[Ps. ever since the Misaeng remake happened, & seeing Bai Jingting in Im Siwan's role.... visual similarity has become very important to me, for remakes! Which is why I'm the least mad at this casting, because Kang Hoon despite looking nothing like a High-Schooler, vaguely looks like Patrick from certain angles if you squint really hard!] π
Agreed about the other two. I don't like this casting. I love JYB but I don't see her doing justice to this role.
I'm dreading the table-read release, lmao. That's how much I'm NOT anticipating the leads, lmao! This tells a lot considering SD1D is one of my favorites, and I love remakes (watching the 5th remake of Hana Yori Dango currently!) π€£
Oh. My. God. They kept the title, you guys! The OG fans of SD1D know it as 'Xiang Jian Ni', which means 'Want to see you'. Xiang Jian Ni is also the closing credits-song of SD1D. They named the k-drama remake 'Sang Gyeon Ni', which I assume still means 'want to see you' (I forgot how phonetically close Mandarin and Korean are) π This is perhaps the only thing they got right! π

That was my first thought when I saw the casting news. No way he plays a lamb-like MJJ! My uWu baby!... He would rock the psycho role though! <3 Ps. he fits the visuals too, the psychiatrist dude was very suave and charming, after all! :D

As satisfying the trolling is, I completely agree it's not worth wasting a remake over bad acting/ unsuitable actors. I'd rather they get everything right from the get go. Still cannot believe a team who had the gift of hindsight (by being a remake-script team, and not original-script) made such a blunder of miscasting the leads! -_- Because SD1D has enough ardent fans all around the globe, I can imagine the actors will need a much *stronger* performance than what's expected of them, to convince viewers & win them over! There are only a handful who are happy with the casting, and 90% of those happy people haven't watched the original an/or belong to the actors' fan-clubs. :/

The original script is so amazing, I don't think bad-acting would be a deal-breaker for the k-netz who haven't watched the original (aka have a yardstick to compare). That said, k-netz are brutal and also not very forgiving about bad-acting, so despite AHS/ JYB fangirling, I'm sure if they don't do the roles justice, they will be dragged SO bad! xD

Also, I love it how we don't need to put these behind spoiler tags. All seasoned viewers here, lmao! :P
