I watched the older versions quite a long ago...at that time I was a teenager....but has the ML always been such…
It has always been a 'Beauty & the Beast' story with the leads. Recent versions have tried to sanitize him & make him TOO fluffy, but I like how we're going back to the roots. His exterior was always that of a hateful, violent prick who had major anger and violence issues because of Mommy-dearest. I like how we are starting with that instead of jumping right into him being a goofball and also a little dumb? One thing I remember clearly, was that he never usually got his own hands dirty, he used the system. In fact, it took a lot to push him and get him to use his fists!
Ps. My favorite is Thailand, after reminiscing about all the prev versions. Thyme seems to have fallen in love with Gorya at that point, and I love that little touch! :')
I have never agreed with an opinion so much in my entire life
Between us being in love with Ren, to understanding Ren & falling out of love, and finally accepting Ren for who he is.... HanaDan Readers all grew up! ππ₯²πβ€
I really fail to get the hype around the SML. I fell for him in the Japanese version where I knew no better. But then I followed his character arc, and yes, he's sweet when it's required of him, but he isn't all THAT, really. He shines as a knight-in-shining armor only because the ML starts off as a Class-A jerk, which makes readers put him on a pedestal.
Peel away his princely-exterior, and deep-down you find a guy who's always VERY confused, who sub-consciously always ends up taking advantage of the fact that he knows the FL's very first 'puppy-love' was him. There are also times where he conveniently forgets that fact altogether, or even pretends like he doesn't know. He also gets a free-pass for being a jerk (from f4 AND us) because he's on the autism-spectrum. And because he's never sure of his own feelings, it's always up to his whims and boredom and availability, that he throws crumbs of attention around to the FL, often ending up treating her like an Option-2. -_-
Fingers crossed Thailand doesn't white-wash his character! While I grew to dislike him eventually for who he was, I loved his complexity and his 'issues' as a literary character! :)
I loved the opening -- that narration by Thyme that pays tribute to the girl who changed him. Those glimpses at…
>>And we can start with the FL, the absolute best FL of any adaptation of BOF that I've seen. (Sorry, Shen Yue ... I think this version's avoidance of campy humor makes this FL more compelling.) Scrappy and cute. You can already see that Gorya will be beautiful after the inevitable makeover.<< Say it out louder for those at the back! <3
>>They incorporated the kick brilliantly, and yes, you could see in Thyme's eyes that he was already falling in love with Gorya. It gave me goosebumps!<< My favorite scene in the whole story! If you deliver that scene right, you already won majorrrr brownie-points with me! :')
I think they took the best of ALL the adaptations. Paid homage wherever they could. Cancelled stuff that needed to be. The concept and execution really underwent a makeover, and you can see in every frame just HOW much respect the director has for the original work! :D
1. I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would, great work GMMTV! 2. Bright is a great Thyme! There was a lot…
2. Bright indeed is fantastic as Thyme, although his performance lands uneven on me. Like the dining hall scene, those 'scary-mean' expressions were comical at best. However, the first opening scene he sits down on the red couch with a smirk.. oof, powerful and sinister! Same with the last scene. He POSITIVELY looked like he fell in LOVE (which he did as per the story)... no questions asked. He killed that scene, and ate it up! I really do not know what to make of Bright as an actor. 4. Ditto with Tu. Gorya was fantastic in the delivery of the last scene, where she's shaking with unbridled rage, vowing to take down Thyme. She's a natural at her melancholy scenes too! ^^ Her performance after being molested, was a tad questionable. Dunno what to make of her as an actor either! I think both Bright and Tu are talented, and shine in some really well-directed scenes! :')
Yep, same here! I honestly thought the sweet kinds like Zhao Liying can't do antagonist/ grey characters convincingly…
OMG! So I'm not the only one who went back to news and to the manhwa to cross-check if it actually had been adapted the same, after the first episode! ππ Hi5 mate! xD
Thank you once again! I look forward to the visuals too, should they decide to do a c-drama version! The wardrobe, styling, costumes, wigs and sets!π₯ I'm so happy you liked the reasoning here! ^^
I would watch the drama just to see Zhao lusi play an antogonist role. She really is very good when it comes to…
Yep, same here! I honestly thought the sweet kinds like Zhao Liying can't do antagonist/ grey characters convincingly enough, and look at her prove us wrong once again in this year's 'Who is the murderer'! Zhao Lusi would be equally amazing too! Thanks for your comment! <3
Yes, to everything you said! π At this point, I'm okay with just a themed photoshoot too... plot, what plot?!…
Ah yesss! I stumbled upon BoTWG full-color, right after somebody mentioned (and shared the link of) Goong in full-color! SUCH a visual treat tbh! Thank youuu! I'm still on the free sub, so i'm unlocking new chapters everyday! π€£π
Visually stunning article! <3 I would have rioted if TMOPB wasn't on this list! xD As my first costume + high-fantasy drama, the OST brought in all the feels! *_* Liang Liang still brings in shivers, just like the first day! I would say TMoPB is a fraction of itself without the soundtrack, definitely heightened the watch-experience for me!
>>Better yet, you heard a drama OST and it gripped you so tightly that you just HAD to watch the drama it came from?<< Yep, plenty! My most recent was Chugakusei Nikki. I was, and still am in love with Uru's γγγγΌγ°. I'm grateful to whoever pitched the OST on the feeds!! __/\__
>>Has this ever happened to you: you're watching a good drama and it just becomes better once you hear the original soundtrack (OST)?<< Yep, this was me with Someday or One Day most recently. Wu Bai's Last Dance still never fails to make me tear-up! :') I love the entire OST actually! :')
Thank you for this article, I'll go compile an OST-loves list on MDL rn! <3
Aww, thank you! I'm super glad this got you to at least check out the artwork! Mission accomplished! :P Afaik,…
About cultures inspiring other cultures... it's the classic 'chicken or the egg' debate! I honestly wish the attacks and the hostility would stop, and we can enjoy creative works for what they are! :) Also, I'm not someone who understands/ or appreciates poetry in the three languages I grew up with, so it's harder for me in foreign language with subs. Also, I hear Chinese poetry relies heavily on nuances and puns (they have really similar sounding words/ characters that can otherwise lend to a completely different meaning if you know the language, and well enough!) so the subtlety of sarcastic roasts, and the depth of romantic feelings never exactly gets translated, even if you know the cultural references of simile & metaphor! T_T
And yess to new endeavors for everybody, it's always nice to see something completely out of somebody's comfort zone right on their resumes! It's crazy how all my biases from younger days, especially the chinese/ taiwanese actors seem to be going out for groceries, with a bundle of their human child in tow! I immediately shift my attention to Korean biases, where 40 y/o oppas are still happily unmarried! xD xD xD
When I look back I didn't even like the plot that much, love triangles and old flames turning present into ash…
Yes, to everything you said! π At this point, I'm okay with just a themed photoshoot too... plot, what plot?! :P :P Since you loved the artwork, and didn't care much for the story, here is the full-color remastered version (no translations)... https://page.kakao.com/home?seriesId=49981874 Sometimes I randomly flip pages to stare at the ink illustrations in color! (ssshh!)

Tv tropes is such a fun website! Yes, I assumed the article would be on general time-loops, and only after I had posted the comment, I realized after reading the article, that the recs were of the 'Groundhog Day' kind! :P Sowie! xD
Everyday I learn something new, and I cannot believe today it was MDL! Thanks, I had no idea 'stable time-loop' stories were a completely different kind, from the ones you pitched here today! Either way, it's one of my fave sub-genres too! :') And yeahh, BJT fighting! \m/ <3

You're right SD1D is definitely more of a time-travel, rather than a 'time loop' as per definition, but there was a lot Mobius Looping within the Timelines.... Tomorrow's Me.... has a Time-Loop which fits the definition in the article more than SD1D! But loop is only evident once they show the FL's perspective, and you're like: 'hey, that's already happened, that's how we begin the movieee!' π Like you said, both were fantastic watches!... TnK is definitely veryyyy high on my watchlist! Many thanks for making me remember I need to watch it soon! :P
I have most of these on my immediate PTW list. Sad to see 'Someday or One Day' hasn't made the cut on your list. I would love to recommend that to you, and also another j-movie called 'Tomorrow's me will date yesterday's you'... the schtick is very simple in both. But once you have that singular moment of profound-realization, it hits you like a truck full of bricks! Completely mind-blowing, to say the least!π I wished to be one of the earlier ones to comment! I shall come back soon once I finish reading every word of this post! Thanks for writing this piece! Time-loop indeed is one of the more underrated sub-genres of sci-fi! π
Ps. I had been looking forward to this article, ever since I spotted it on the upcoming-articles Master-List! I'm super looking forward to Reset, because I think this would definitely be a better outing than last year's Crossfire (starring Luhan)...! BJT looks π₯, plot sounds epic, plus it's DAYLIGHT entertainment! <3 <3
