YEEESSS, Zhiguang's whole face screams Hua Cheng π it's such an empty dream but I would love to see him cast in that role one day! And it's not a diss to Song Ji Yang, he was great in TU and he does look very unique, but I think he doesn't quite fit Xie Lian's faux delicate appearance. Someone online somewhere (I can't remember where now, maybe Twitter) suggested Liu Yu for Xie Lian: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GMQT5Zsa4AAHnl9?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GMQT5ZqbgAAG56y?format=jpg&name=large What do you think? I think it's not bad, but it's only about as good as Xiao Wen. BUT like you said, maybe keep Xiao Wen and Zhiguang because yeah, they already know each other and are friendly, also their heights are similar-ish to start with, less difficult to give Zhiguang some lifts π (my empty, empty recasting dreams for my platinum standard danmei remake, I feel so sad LOL)
I don't have a shrine xD but I feel like meeting MXTX would be awesome. I've always felt like her slash couple dynamics are so similar to my own (and maybe yours too?), a discussion about it would be so interesting! And of course, the in depth plot ideas would be a whole other discussion topic. her imagination is superb!
I relate totally to 'I ain't got time for that shit', but unfortunately work (which is the only thing that consumes my free time) is necessary for living so I gotta do that. I am self-sustaining after all, I'm totally my own responsibility π but yeah, adulting SUCKS
I've started watching The League of Nobleman btw and in the first ep already I love the humor, when he geared himself to jump out of the window them went down stairs LOL ππ and then he's epic fail ability to follow the horse carriage, so funny. I already like his character.
I haven't faced an ending that upset me this much since MODC. Yes, 30 years later but it's just a creation from…
As someone who wished I could erase the last 8 minutes of the show from my memory, I always give out this friendly advice: read the novel starting from chapter 130 which is the beginning of the 11th door through to the end, and take that as your ending instead. The novel extras after the ending will also sooth your pain! βοΈπ
I made another FMV guys but this one was totally unplanned, the song just happened to happen and I couldn't resist. https://youtu.be/4LCH5hB14Jo if you like FMV's maybe check it out (beware the SPOILERS if you haven't completed the series)!

I wanna SCREAM when I think about the manhua basically being cancelled because starEMBER has quit. The ART WAS PHENOMENAL and so perfect and it painted the most perfect picture of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian and if you like the manhua visuals as much as I do(which I think you probably do?!) then please do look at the link I shared when you have a chance because I swear you'll see why I think Zhiguang could easily play Hua Cheng. Actually, the manhua art is the reason I don't like the current casting for Eternal Faith, I feel like both actors, but especially the guy cast as Hua Cheng, are too generic looking. Nothing stands out, just standardly 'pretty'. Hua Cheng is UNIQUE af imo. What a character. Yeesh, Thank you MXTX.
The donghua (anime) also didn't do HC or XL justice visually, they're too stunning to be drawn so flat imo. (this is the hobbyist artist in me speaking I guess) but while the donghua is great story wise, the art just doesn't do it for me.
You definitely have more patience than me when it comes to watching stuff, and also maybe more free time too. I don't watch shows nearly as often or as binge-esque as I was able to ten or even 5 years ago. Now my time is literally money and I have to try and squeeze in what I can when I can. Adulting sucks like that. π

I know what 'over the hill' means, and while I don't care much about technical age, I'll confirm we're not that far apart in age at all. I guess -most- people of our generation are more about quality over quantity. Thai BL's are filled with 'attractive' (depending on each persons tastes) guys who are all over each other, and SK/Taiwan almost the same, but I'll take a censored BL from China over that any day because what they create is unrivaled and intense and stunning. I've said before, I'll say again, if they actually allowed handholding, a hug or a kiss (not even necessarily anything more) in a Cn BL, they would be DOMINATING the BL industry, hands down.
I've always liked Zhiguang as a dancer (I'm a big fan of dance, hence why I like WY) but I never watched his shows because those high school romances he acted in are not my interest. But then seeing him in The Spirealm and learning that he spent two years improving his acting during COVID, distancing himself from the boy group idol thing, I feel like he'd nail Hua Cheng as a character if given the chance because acting is what he wants to do. The height thing is not a big deal to me, I mean, Ruan Nanzhu is also 1.9m in canon, and they still cast Zhiguang at 1.8m, so since Hua Cheng is also 1.9, they could just cast a shorter Xie Lian you know?
I'm gonna take your recc on The Ancient Detective purely on trust okay! Because you love MXTX, I'm gonna' trust you xD

It sounds like I'ma be giving League of Nobleman a shot. It'll seem weird but your long hesitation and then finally enjoying it makes me feel like it'll come through and be worth my time.
Being picky is something ingrained in me for real, in every country's media/shows and even fanfiction, if I don't like something, be it an actor/actress/trope/storyline/one sentence etc, any little thing, I'm liable to just drop it cold. I don't even think twice. If I watch a show finished and I didn't really like it, I'ma be honest too. Even as a fan of WY, I have dropped and rated quite a few of his shows/movies according to how I actually felt like about them, because bad TV is bad TV π
The Untamed is a golden standard for me, the novel is obviously first and foremost the best, but the live adap was a serve years ago and it still holds up now I think. That said, The Spirealm came really close to topping it (if it hadn't been for how dif the series ending is compared to the novel) and ultimately TGCF is my platinum danmei standard. China's 'no-homo' policy when it comes to their media is mostly just a pain in the ass and we ALL hope one day the government will just gtf over itself π but my selfish hope because of TGCF is that they only allow it AFTER Eternal Faith's license has expired because I would love to get a recasting with XZG and that is just my selfish fan self speaking)
I've already added a few from the what you recc'd and I'm glad to hear you'll try out The Devil Judge (that show just still blows my mind and since you like BL, I'll be honest, TDJ is a 'censored' SK BL if such a thing were to exist, buuuut you're probs gonna' hate at least one of the female leads judging by what you said about Asian woman in shows π π just try your best to ignore her LOL )
It's good to talk, feel free to msg anytime to talk about it, I might just do that if one of your reccs get under my skin!

xD sorry not series, yes the two different movies for Yin-Yang Master, there are only two and they are awesome. As for reccing you something, I'm not sure I could π your list is EXTENSIVE. You've watched waaaaay more than I have. I've always been pretty picky though, I drop as many shows as I watch. I just dropped another two shows this week. For me, even if an actor/actress looks or acts a certain way I don't like I won't watch π hence the reason I've never watched WoH, I don't like Gong Jun (shocking I know π ) but I'm def making a note of the recs you've suggested and I'm going to go through them to see what I might like. I've skipped over A League of Nobleman before though, can you tell me a non spoiler highlight for why it's so good iyo?
We have similar tastes when it comes to preferring something with fighting in it for sure, I LOVE a show with some great fighting scenes/action/power, but often modern day stuff. Specifically because of the default romance stuff (with unoriginal female trope characters), I don't often gravitate toward to many Cn costume dramas, so I tread carefully. We know China likes to play it 'safe' after all.
SK does modern action really well imo. If I have to suggest something I didn't see on your list, it would be The Devil Judge (this show is just gold through and through with the power dynamics and Ji Sung is impeccable) and also Bloodhounds (VERY high action and bromance heavy AND due for s02 soon) Not sure if they fall into your taste though. From China, I watched Luoyang for WY, but in the end, I found the other ML (Huang Xuan) and the FL (Victoria Song) really outstanding. Non tropey FLs are so rare, she was so likeable! It's a detective/crime/espionage/action show if you're interested in trying it out.
We ALL should have ignored that confused individual who came to watch a show based on a Danmei and then decided it was a 'shame' it was A DANMEI π΅ but when so much nonsense is laid out bare, how to not laugh?? π€£π€£π€£
It is not a big budget production, Since it is a danmei adaptation, it surely can't be changed into a straight…
Exactly. They came here from π€‘ town π this kind of commenter probably has some butthurt issue with Cn stuff. I tried to ignore it, but then they commented at me and I just couldn't stop laughing ππ
It is not a big budget production, Since it is a danmei adaptation, it surely can't be changed into a straight…
Bro, I initially ignored the comment when I saw it, but then I saw you commented and I didn't want you getting dragged into this kind of redundant commentary which just aims butthurt personal gripe negativity into a general space, but then the further comments I've seen from the OP are just too funny π€£ to say the writer should compromise because THEY didn't think the story needed BL. It's like choosing to watch a comedy and then being disappointed it included comedy π€£ π€£ That's π€‘ level stuff.
It is not a big budget production, Since it is a danmei adaptation, it surely can't be changed into a straight…
You're saying the writer should not write what they want to write...because...why? Because they live in China? That's just...π pffftttf. Nah, I think you're just trippin' and maybe you like that censored oppression? ICK. In future just check the tags and maybe stay away from anything that includes couple stories (of any sexual orientation apparently since Jack and Rose overshadowed that big ass sinking ship for you) You should just watch a documentary on Titanic π This is actually so funny πππ
Seriously though, just stay away from what irks you, then you won't need to leave redundant comments trying to suggest that authors should compromise their creative preferences because you think your opinion about the content they write is valuable and you can just use your BL data to picture kisses in anything you watch π
Pick a different lane yo, you got waaaay off track watching a LITERAL Danmei based show and saying the Danmei should have been compromised. πππ what even π€£ π€£

YES! It seems we have some similar tastes. The Yin-Yang Master movie AND the series are both in my top 10 reccs they're sooooo damn good. I don't hunt though for Cn shows, I just see if something comes to my attention. Maybe since our taste seems to be along similar lines, you could recc some other good Cn series/movies for me? No romance though, too boring π
It is not a big budget production, Since it is a danmei adaptation, it surely can't be changed into a straight…
Broooooo, nothing needs to be justified here. The canon material (novel) is tagged as danmei/BL FIRST. The story is ABOUT the main couple. The writer wrote what she wrote, this was her fantastic story, and that includes the two main characters being together and how they navigate the doors together. There is no story without them. The OP's comment is, for example, the equivalent of watching Titanic and then saying 'what a shame the couple took the focus off the tragedy'. Makes no sense. π

I think one of the key things China does right, is emotional relationship development. Feelings about characters in shows run much deeper for viewers when the characters/relationships are well developed and have substance.
In the series:1. Winter Cabin2. Fitcher's Bird3. Skin Drum4. Sako/Lu Zo Zi5. Psych Hospital6. Woman of Rain7.…
No prob! The Hotel was one of my faves too, and also the Ship door (which reminded me of the Resident Evil Revelations game, which I LOVED and played through multiple times. The vibe just seemed so similar, I could picture the novel scenes so clearly in my head!)
But like Inookyu mentioned, for the Hotel Fire door they do combine some elements with Woman of Rain, so you won't be missing those crucial NanQiu moments. You will also notice throughout the show, how characters are changed and altered in the series in order to merge some contents of the novel and show! Enjoy βοΈπ

Agreed. MXTX is THE BEST. TGCF is my fave of hers, the story is just so incredible, it's amazing and I just gotta drop you this:
