We can only blame that on the cregulations. From 56 ep to 40, a lot of scenes were cut and no proper closure given.
Yeah we're all so frustrated by it...

The regulations were as such, since the government wanted to regularise income from the entertainment industry because previously lots of dramas were extended with lots of filler scenes just so they can get more income, and also some actors received exorbitant fees. So now all dramas must stop at 40 ep, if there are more than 40, then it should be split into 2 seasons and the 2nd season should be shown a few months later (was it 6 months? I don't remember).
