Actor Kim Soohyun is actively showing his prowess as the 'King of Ad-libs,' stealing the spotlight in Queen of Tears.
Even the director, who was giving the cue sign while watching the monitor, praised the clever ad-lib saying, “Okay, that was well done!” This made all the actors, who appeared as both families, burst into laughter.
This was Kim Soohyun’s ad-lib. It’s a line that wouldn’t come out unless he was completely immersed in his character, Baek Hyunwoo, showing his passion for the role.
Previously, Kim Soohyun made everyone laugh with lines not in the script even during a drunken scene. He paid homage to Kim Jiwon's famous line from her hit show Fight for My Way by incorporating it into his own dialogue. The production team, unaware of Kim Soohyun's ad-lib, was caught on camera laughing and saying, "Did you plan the camera angle just for this?"
Kim Jiwon also praised his homage to her line, saying, "He pulled it off so well." The idea to mimic his 'best friend' Suzy's front teeth flirting in a gift-giving scene was also his. This is why not just the main broadcast but also the making-of videos are exploding in views.

KSH should be a case study in university acting departments on how to appease to award committees (the most prestigious one at that). The panel consists of 60 industry officials and I imagine not all 60 are the same every year. He’s been nominated since his first real lead role in 2012 and now his 4th in 2024. In the span of 12 years, he’s only had 6 lead roles and 4 are nominated.
