Lovely article as always, my dear friend 😊 O&O is one of the best C-historicals for me, in terms of overall production quality. For the sub-genre of romance, it's right up there among the most compelling of dramas. Truly a unique and almost surreal viewing experience indeed.
Nice write-up, good job! I'm currently watching this drama as well so the aspects you highlighted truly resonates with me. I'm not an expert on romcoms and haven't watched many as I tend to gravitate towards other genres but I am enjoying this one. It's a much needed respite filled with sunshine and rainbows from the usual content I watch 😊
lol it's still far away from Halloween. But the article came out for mid Oct so people can watch horror dramas…
Another Halloween article? I'll be looking forward to it!
HK horror comprises 2 types - contemporary content and the folklore-based (xuanhuan) sub-genre.
When talking about contemporary horror in general, I like mysticism-related stories that touch on traditional and cultural aspects eg shamanism, folklore/ spiritual undertones. South Korea and Thailand do this very well. HK used to as well but the execution is somewhat inconsistent.
Hopefully we get more quality productions for this genre 😊
Potentially and with my taste in dramas, i figure either this will be something I find curiously addictive or…
Yikes, I guess no one saw that coming (or is it..?) So much cancellation going on, I guess the industry had it coming with all the "hanky panky" that's been happening. Unfortunately a bunch of other aspects got caught in the mix as well. I still feel bad iro ZZH because I enjoy watching him on screen... Sigh 🤷🏻♂️
Perfect timing indeed! Happy Halloween, dearest Cho Na 🥳👻🎃 So far I've seen 5 out of the list so hopefully I'll be able to start on the others in the near future. I have seen a few others though that are out of the top ten. Actually this theme also reminds me of Joseon Exorcist. Until today I'm still pretty sore over its cancellation - it has such a potentially awesome premise... Anyway, great article as always, though it's a little spooky this time lol 🦇

Three Kingdoms? The 2010 version? Oh, I loved that one but the episode count is crazy. It's highly addictive though lol. That reminds me, I still have a whole host of previously released dramas on my PTW. I've seriously given up hope of organising my schedule for C-dramas. You just don't know when they'll ever get released or suddenly drop from the sky 😅

I actually understand how you feel. That show reminds me too much of the 90s, an era which I'd much prefer to mostly forget lol I'm still watching though but slowly. It's slim pickings at the moment... December would be perfect for an epic historical, gosh I'm really looking forward to it!

Haha, oh dear, that doesn't sound good at all 😅 Well, you could always watch Our Times since you're a fan of Wu Lei, it's pretty interesting so far. Luoyang is coming in December!!! Wow, in time for Christmas! Now I'm all excited 😀

Ah yes, A Love Never Lost! That's been on my PTW since I can't even recall when lol The trailer looks exceptional, such a (seemingly) gorgeous production indeed. Fingers crossed that both those dramas would eventually see the light of day, hopefully soon 🤞😊

Haha, I totally relate. That's a great description - Marmite drama 😂 It seems like a fun and lighthearted drama. I'm waiting for something a bit more epic eg Luoyang but I don't think it's going to get released this year 😢 Hope I'm wrong though.
Great review! Love the insights into the characterization and how well the production managed with such limited screen time. I do agree too that it inadvertently reminded us of our teen years. The demons of our past should be sealed shut in the vault together with the evil spirit, never to see the light of day ever again lol
Right? I don't think I've ever done this before - 20 minutes per week... Oh, the pain! 😢
I recall watching Vampire Diaries some time ago and you're right. It was darker than this one, which was quite an interesting concept too. I like supernatural and urban fantasy elements, we need more of these types of shows 😊

Yes, agreed. Hopefully they make each episode longer and release them faster. I'm curious though about the next plot because I'm generally quite intrigued with shamanism but with a lighthearted approach.
Most of the comments seem to indicate mixed opinions which lean towards this drama being really bad. So out of curiosity I test watched the first episode and was taken aback - the intro theme is truly impressive, absolutely wow 😮
With an opening song like that, it's got to be good right? I also agree with the comments on the use of muted colours rather than the usual bright filters and high saturation - the visuals are quite pleasant indeed 😊
As for the story...I didn't realise this was a time travel plot. The synopsis didn't mention it while the genres and tags didn't say this was a comedy. Anyway, all aspects seem ok except that the story is not my cup of tea so I'll pass on this. For those watching, have fun 😉

I'm always intrigued by shamans, witches and priests performing exorcisms lol

Have fun with 3 Kingdoms!

20 minutes per week is just painful lol. Hopefully if there's a second season, they don't torture us like that anymore 😅
You can binge with a peace of mind!
Love the formatting and overall design of the write-up, the end product looks gorgeous indeed!
I really do hope that we'll get more urban fantasy productions with unique concepts and premise in the near future ❤️
