i see what they did with this one 😠there are some lines and some scenes and some tropes/essence in it that looks like it's taken/inspired from moon lovers, which they tried to change into something better or "make up" for what that did to us, or how do i word it, try to step up or appease people who like that kind of stuff but were dissappointed by how moon lovers went down??? which, of course, they're free to do.
but failed badly. BRO. you're not scarlet heart ryeo. scarlet heart ryeo is THAT GIRL. what is this drama. 😠like, where's the suffering, where's the chemistry, where's the good acting, or the character development, or the music???? everything is very forced. maybe it's good enough for people who haven't watched many kdramas. i thought it was something it isn't, my bad. the ML actor tried, i can see that at least.
call it what you want but i just LOVE when a king or a prince or whatever comes at the right time to use his privilege to do his job and save the day, it's just 🤌🤌🤌
it always felt kinda foul to me that she trusts the one who's betrayed literally everyone including her multiple times more than the one actually trying to save everyone including her. feels like she has never Truly trusted him. it's giving ye xiwu. and this beginning of a chain of misunderstandings and betrayal scares me. i wonder if it can be called love at this point. i bet it was, i know it is but god, this is the wrong story for that. there isn't a place for that kind of devotion in this story. the theme of trust is such an important theme in this drama.also, watching again, i realise how little happiness this drama actually has. especially in the second half. it's a tragedy, through and through. everything burns, nothing comes out alive. i rarely want to NOT watch something because of how cruel it is but now. i don't want to accept what's coming.
oh, to drink poison from the hands of the one you love. what terrible, terrible fate. everything is rotten, everything is rotten. but to be sentenced to a terrible fate after experiencing something that kills you, yet you want it, because you want so badly to be broken, that's one kind of a life. there is no poetry in misery. but maybe there is. maybe we can make it such.
maybe it's just my nostalgia hitting me from all those long years ago, but the non vocal ost of this drama is the most MISERABLE music I've ever heard. absolutely miserable, full of suffering. i feel killed when watching it. even more, knowing what's to come. i wish i could forget everything and experience this all ovet again.
If the plot is non existent in this then the other cdramas here are dead. How are you already concluding the story…
the main plot is sidelined most of the time to run constant subplots, one after the other. and they'd kinda repetitive. only once in a while does Yingluo remember what she's there for, so i would say it's a huge drag. while it's not fair to judge a series by watching a short part of it, one shouldn't have to watch like 30 episodes to even get the main plot to start. i think they could've done 70 eps with one strong plot, only if the subplots actually had more to do with the main one rather than just tools to develop relationships.
and the characters are definitely very one dimensional so far, i don't see much "layering" except in consort xian and chun. even the main character seems very flat to me. but maybe that's just me and my standards. this drama indeed is more plot focused than in emotional/character depth, so it might be my wrong choice to pick it up.
most characters in this drama are so one dimensional and flat. i can't help but hate mingyu and gao. there's so little depth to them, not to mention the flat and non existent plot that already isn't a good look. oof.
never have i seen a worse emperor in a drama. though I've seen tyrants, never seen someone this much of a loser and yet so self obsessed. manchild.
i love the empress so much. she literally treats her attendant maids as her own daughters, lets them play around, teaches them, wipes their tears.
and then there's this bastard who kicks his attendants whenever he's upset, even if they're begging and apologising. attacks women. gets upset seeing people happy. doesn't do anything productive that would help anyone. and has a thousand fucking "wives." a toddler throwing tantrums would act better than this... whatever creature this is. ew.

there's snakes. and then there's prince won.
