Actually, the "daughter-in-law" thing might be a translation issue? Because if I understand it correctly, Chinese is very gendered when it comes to familial relationships, they even have different words for getting married depending on whether it's a man or a woman who is doing it. So "daughter-in-law" is often used to designate "the wife of your son" even if that person is not in fact a woman (or what we in English would call "wife"). But WSW clearly took that as his mother wanting him to marry a girl, so he replied about having kids etc, just to please his mother (even though he already knew that he probably would never marry a woman and have children of his own blood).

In China dates are given in the format YEAR/MONTH/DAY, so 06 means June and 23 means the 23rd of June. If it mentioned the year it would have said 20230623.

They do, but it's actually very well done, it makes sense, unlike a lot of other romance drama plots. Misunderstandings is one of my most hated tropes but here I actually didn't mind it so much because there were legit reasons for it, it wasn't just thrown in out of the blue for random drama.

He does have some psychological issues, but I also think it's a personality thing that gets exacerbated by his mental issues.

Yeah unfortunately the snakes play a big part in the plot so it's hard to cut them out and not have to rewrite the entire storyline. But it's sad for people who can't handle watching it because of that.

You calm down. I did write above "if you can", but you probably didn't read that comment. I just mentioned that Dailymotion is not a legitimate platform since a lot of people actually don't know that.
Illegal platforms might help these actors be known around the world, but I doubt that will help them much since they live and work in China. And how are overseas fans the ones who struggle the most? We can watch it on the official platforms and are free to use VPNs without having to be sneaky about it. Chinese fans are the ones who have to struggle. But they also cannot watch it legally, which is why it's important that we overseas fans do, IF WE CAN.

Dailymotion is a pirate site. The official platforms streaming it legally are RevengedLove YouTube, Gagaoolala and Viki. Only views on those platforms will support the series.

Please watch this on the official platforms if you can in order to support the actors and the production team. Watching on pirate sites will not support them at all. They worked really hard on this and took a huge risk to defy the government ban on BL. Only we overseas fans can watch this legally,they are relying on us.

The most consistently good subs are on Viki. Gaga subs weren't very good at the beginning but got much better after a few episodes. The YT subs are the worst...

There won't be another season of the series because there's only that one novel about them and they adapted the whole thing. And Tian Xuning and Zi Yu will probably never act together in anything else, ever again. That's the reality of doing BL in China. Heartbreaking, but we have to live on anyway...

Chi Cheng absolutely has some anger management issues in the beginning of the series, haha. He's a cold-blooded, vicious bastard who is a very dangerous man to cross. Now imagine how you can turn out that way with kind, caring, supportive parents? Not so much. They aren't really that kind of parents. They only care about appearances and duty. You're going to see Chi Cheng acting very differently with someone else in the same generation as his parents later on, and the contrast is very striking.

Knowing about your child's sexuality and holding the only thing they love in life hostage in order to force them to go against their own nature and marry someone they don't love (and never will) is "wanting the best for him"??? Sorry, but I really don't understand your reasoning. The father didn't steal his snakes and hide them because they thought he was in danger from the snakes. It's because he knows they are the only thing Chi Cheng cares about. And the mother was totally complicit in that scheme and helped distract Chi Cheng so he wouldn't be at home when his father raided his home and stole his snakes.

THIS. This is especially important for shows that are being made in brave defiance of the ban issued by the government in their country! We need to show them all the support we can!

Miscommunication is one of my most hated tropes as well, but I have to admit that in RL, they made it *work*. The misunderstandings and lies/omissions were believable in the context, and couldn't easily be resolved by a simple "hey, you know what?" The fact that someone was deliberately fuelling those misunderstandings and insecurities, even though it was infuriating, also helped.
I would have liked them to sit down (or lie down, I'm not picky lol) and clear everything up, but in a way they both made the decision that they didn't care, they loved the other person and were in it for the long haul, warts and all. Most of the time, this trope makes me severely doubt the validity of the romance and the strength of the relationship, but somehow that didn't happen here.
