How is it so far? I don't usually like watching ongoing Cdramas, but I'm thinking of breaking my rule for the second time. However, the rating is not encouraging.
At first, I wasn't sure about this couple, though I like ZLS a lot and liked WC in a previous drama. I wasn't planning to watch this one, but after coincidentally coming across a BTS short video, I changed my mind. They actually look good together, so I'm looking forward to it.
War has casualties , so I think , it is shown realistically , after all it was not a fairy tale for children ,…
Actually, it really is a fairy tale. The FL was always winning, and whenever she faced trouble, the ML would appear out of nowhere to rescue her. I think the 'realistic' touch came with the deaths of Jiang Li, her maid, and XFF's brother's girlfriend. I would have accepted the guards' deaths if they had occurred during the big fight or before it, but killing them in the war during the final minutes of the drama felt forced and only served to add angst, which the directors of historical Cdrama seems to love.
The ending would be a perfect 10 if you followed my way--I stop every time at Episode 40 at 31:17. :-)
I was prepared for that last episode because I had already heard about the war scene. I was thinking about stopping it exactly where you said, but then again, I wouldn't have watched the scene between the female lead and Jiang Li's father, which I found necessary and emotional.
I really enjoyed a lot of things in this drama, but I have to be honest about a few points first:
1- It felt like: 'The story of Yanxi Palace' + 'Love Like the Galaxy' = 'The Double.' Those are two of my favorite dramas, so of course this one was to my liking too, but it didn't reach the level of either of them. 2- The last episode could have been one of the best finales I ever watched in Cdrama, but they had to ruin it with unnecessary events. 3- The director just looooooves using the wind to blow people's clothes and hair, even in the last scene. (It was okay at the beginning but in was too much for me after). Apart from that, I enjoyed every scheme, even though we know the FL will find her way out every time (well, she is the FL). I liked the chemistry between the leads despite the age gap. I found the FL's acting was on point, especially in the emotional scenes. The ML is eye candy, but his role was kind of easy, so we didn't see much of his acting range, as he didn't have to change expression most of the time. The OST was so great and emotional; I cried because of how well they used the OST, even more than the actual scenes. The princess and FL's ex-husband were so great, especially toward the end. Their wonderful performances gave us complex feelings toward them (thanks to the writing too). The last episode had a very emotional scene between the FL and Jiang Li's father that I really appreciated.
I definitely recommend this drama for people who don't focus too much on the plot flow, in's really enjoyable, and I give it a final 8/10 rating.
I just finished the drama. I'm sure many have said this before, but that war scene was completely unnecessary. Killing his two guards in that stupid war was so random too.
