I agree. I don't see them struggling/fighting to be together. Perhaps I'm more used to fantasy romances where Main Leads are overdramatic and eager to sacrifice anything so they can be together. Here there's nothing. So far it's only the ML who faces obstacles or at least in in touch with his feelings. They don't really feel like a couple to me so instead of rooting for them I root for ML to be happy, even if it has to be with FL whom I really don't like.

so far its really good. I'm loving Shawn Duo in it. I really didn't like Princess Weiyoung - can't stand dramas with those genius heroines who outsmart everybody. I am also not a great fan of Tiffany Wang but I'm liking her heroine in Xio Chuo. But compared with Long Aoyi even Mary Sue Fuyao is ok. So I definitely recommend the legend of xiao chuo.
