Not a fan of the ending.
The drama team probably did not expect the drama to do this well, and so they originally filmed an open ending.. after seeing the reception the drama received, they scrambled last minute to shoot an epilogue episode confirming HE.
Anyhow, that royally pissed me off, that they originally decided to go for an open ending instead of the novel's happy ending.

Xu Kai's iQiyi dramas don't often show up on Viki though. Thankfully, he isn't doing many iQiyi dramas.

That's why I'm hesitating and not dropping it right away. I'm liking the chemistry, but the "not setting clear boundaries" thing is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I will keep this on hold for now and see. I will keep an eye on the MDL comments section, follow spoilers for future episodes and decide if I should pick it back up.

I'm just commenting on the fact that she was never together with her ex-boss in the novel.
I'm now hesitating whether to continue to watch the drama or just drop it because of all that I have read in this comment thread.
If FL is together with ML, and she is not setting clear boundaries with other men, that is huge no-no from me.

I read the novel a few months ago, so maybe my memory is failing me.
From what I remember, FL and her ex-boss were never together in the novel. They did share a kiss one night at a hotel when they were drunk, nothing beyond that. Of course, that was before the FL left the company and went back to her hometown.

I'm very excited for both the dramas. I'm happy as long as MR airs right after LOTFG without any further delays. Especially given that both XK and TXW did so much promo this month, and it was all wasted away because Tencent couldn't stick to the original scheduling.

I read LOTFG novel a few years back, and re-read it recently. One of my favorite novels, so I'm definitely going to jump into it as soon as it is released.
Btw, the original novel author is also the author of The Double novel, so my expectations are high.

I believe it climbed up until 8.6, FIYS had 8.7.

Both had 0.1 down one or two years back. I have once seen ALP on 8.4 just a couple of months ago, but shot right back to 8.5 a couple of hours later. Was so mad that day lol.

Regarding FIYS, I was also incredibly excited for that drama that I had to wait for a while before starting ALP.
After FIYS was done airing, and I got confirmation that ALP has a happy ending (another reason I waited, to get the confirmation of a HE), I dove right into it.

I have to say though, I much preferred ALP over FIYS. I was initially more excited for FIYS because I loved the novel. But ALP completely won me over.

In the novel, the FL also leaves a month after the ML leaves.

Why though? They lived until their old age, that's as happy ending as it could be.

I guess the only problem is that XK barely does any drama with YZ.
As for big success, he's already got a few early in his career.

As for you, a fan of SZR, what are you doing here lol. But since you are here, all I can say is that, I couldn't watch 'Dont Fall in Love With Boss' and 'Marquis Is Innocent' drama adaptations because I don't really see her as a FL. But that's my personal preference. Not forcing my perspective onto others.

As for why general XK fans don't want him to take on this, it's because while YZ is not directly involved, it's his friend who is a producer of this drama.
There's also talks of this drama originally being female-centric, but changed to male-female-centric, to accommodate XK. Well, that's incriminating for XK on two levels.
If it happens to be true, the quality of the script goes down. People will blame XK if the drama flops. They will blame XK even if it is a moderate hit. Unless it's a path-breaking hit, and the possibility of it being close to 0, this is 100% negative for XK.
If it's false, someone is trying to drag XK's name into mud, implying that XK demanded script changes.
We wish he has that power lol, but he doesn't. The opposite usually happens.

Anyways, surely you can see that this a publicity stunt. If it's not SZR, then it's the drama team. Someone is trying to ruffle feathers to gain attention (Definitely not XK tho, he definitely didn't need it right now, especially negative attention), and attention they received.

It didn't help that Xu Kai's got some haters from a certain actress' fandom. Also didn't help that another one of Xu Kai's drama was airing when this drama was airing, and that drama was one of the most popular Xu Kai dramas, Falling Into Your Smile.
People also complained that the actress playing the FL in this drama is not beautiful enough, and etc etc.
So many things were stacked up against this drama that it started off with low ratings. Later, thankfully, people realized how good of a drama this is. But the initial damage had been done.

Yeah, imagine Legend of Shen Li without the epilogue episode. That's the kind of ending you can expect from this drama.
Ancient Love Poetry too is grossly underrated, if you ask me.
Deserves lot more recognition, and better ratings. Imagine this drama debuted with 7.7 rating on MDL. Later it climbed up and up to the current rating.
Considering how some dramas not as good as Ancient Love Poetry have better ratings on here, you'd expect this to have at least a 8.7 or a 8.8.
