I don't think anyone who read the novel would criticize Xie Jing Xing as a jerk.
I saw posts like Xu Kai will be perfect for Xie Jing Xing back in 2020. That's when I searched for the novel, felt it was interesting, and started reading it. They were right, Xu Kai indeed would be perfect to play Xie Jing Xing. FL getting apprehensive about HT's feelings in the novel is justified. Even in the drama, to an extent, it is justified. But it can't erase his confession and the love and care he has shown all the time they have been together. That's why you see people not happy with JX for doing what she did.
In the novel, HT asked the same question: Define the word, Love. But the situation is different. HT seriously thinks JX is perfectly suitable for him. And that's his love. So the question was asked. And JX was more justified to go the competetor to second round of investment.

I don't think the drama will be shelved even if the allegations are true. Considering he's a supporting actor, the drama can just cut all his scenes and re-submit for review. Or, if the character he portrays is very important for the drama, they will just have to reshoot the character scenes with another actor. Unfortunately, the drama will be postponed either way.
