Haven't seen such comments since the drama started airing at all. At least not where I was looking, and I usually…
Xu Kai, like Seven, is not a traffic star. He usually keeps to himself. But there's always some kind of negative market narrative around him because his team does not pay up these marketing accounts to not post any negative unfounded rumours about him. Since his team does not pay up, these marketing accounts post all sorts of ridiculous rumours on him. They even resorted to claim that Xu Kai was tested positive for HIV recently when BCE was about to air. Xu Kai had to personally visit a police station to file a complaint against these rumours. His company is the worst.

This was when the drama was announced. There were some, not all, Seven fans who didn't like Seven taking up this project, because they thought this was just an idol drama. There were also some who had issues with Xu Kai getting equal billing. They all claimed they won't be Seven fans anymore. Personally, I wouldn't even call them Seven fans if they cannot trust their fav to pick a project for herself.

If people didn't feel the chemistry, that's fine. That is only an opinion. I don't like comments like "I don't like the chemistry, maybe he/she should have been paired of that actress/actor". It is plain disrespectful to the co-star of your favourite, I agree. If there are such fans, I really do not want to associate myself with them at all.

They definitely are not Xu Kai fans, sorry. Fans of a cp? Maybe. But let's be frank, fans of a cp literally do not care for the male lead of the cp. They can enjoy the female lead of the cp with other co-stars but do not tolerate the male lead with other co-stars, which tells me who's fans they really are.
I have not seen Xu Kai only fans having issues with TSY, maybe a very small minority before the drama aired had issues, and that too because of TSY fans having issues with TSY taking up this drama. All of these were done and dusted once the drama aired, and those minority who had issues with TSY also loved her in the drama. This is what I saw on twitter. I don't browse ig for c-dramas, so no idea how it is there.
I'm not even been biased but I've seen far worse shows get a 8.5 or 8.7 ratings here. I still maintain the fact…

You are may be fed into Xu Kai's haters narratives.
I tried to watch XK's previous 2 drama cz i like him here. But i m so disappointed he was so bad in BCE,SAHPH.…
Not a fan of SAHPH because of the ending, but I did like BCE.
You can try other Xu Kai dramas, like Falling Into Your Smile, Ancient Love Poetry, Wonderland of Love, Arsenal Military Academy.
Just a little tip for you: Now that you love this cp so much, you will feel other cps of Xu Kai are not that good. So, don't go into the dramas to compare the cps. Just watch for the sake of the drama, and you will see.
I personally feel he's got great chemistry with Bai Lu (Arsenal Military Academy, The Legends), Jing Tian (Wonderland of Love), and now Seven Tan. I have more favorable points for Seven Tan-Xu Kai cp compared to other two now.
I'm in the same limbo. I was actually planning to watch The Princess Royal next, but the comments on the drama…
ETT and TBAVW are very hard to adapt. They need top quality scriptwriters to adapt them. The Times Spent in Pretense should be very easy to adapt, but they messed it up big time. Did not like Royal Rumors at all.
Ascending, Do Not Disturb should also be an easy adaptation. I'm hoping someone decent can do it.

I also liked that novel for the leads, but I just could not forgive the author for trying to redeem Rui Wang. Although FL's half-sister was not a good person, she definitely did not deserve getting gang-raped repeatedly by Rui Wang's subordinates. And his poor wife, too. Despicable man doesn't deserve redemption. A very good novel was ruined for me just because of that.

Malicious Empress is in SM's pov, so most of it is female centric. Although XJX does not appear much in the first 90 chapters, he actually gets a lot done behind the scenes, which can be adapted on screen. His character won't lose out at all. They can definitely pick a star for this one.
Anyway, I am just hoping... I know chances are slim.

I actually translated 'The Times Spent in Pretense' by that author, lol.
Not a fan of TBAVW. I mean, I loved it until the author decided to write a redemption arc for Rui Wang. Simply hated that. My favorite from the author was Eight Treasures Trousseau, followed by Ascending, Do Not Disturb.
A quality author, and to adapt her novels, you need quality scriptwriters.

Thinking back on it, I think Xu Kai and Seven Tan would be perfect to play Xie Jing Xing and Shen Miao. Xu Kai also expressed his desire to collaborate again with Seven Tan as enemies. XKX and SM start out as being on opposite sides, for the first few chapters at least.

I read Rebirth of the Star General. It was very good, too. It actually is a bit similar in plot to The Double. I am yet to read the novel The Double is adapted from.
I actually started my Chinese novel journey with Malicious Empress. I had just finished watching The Legends, and I saw a comment on Twitter saying that Xu Kai would be perfect to play Xie Jing Xing from Malicious Empress. This was back in 2020. Anyway, that made me curious, and I checked it out. Now I'm here having read hundreds of Chinese novels. 😅

Already got all episodes on my phone. And just an hour ago I copy pasted the episodes on to my laptop too to continue watching during the weekend.
