I completely understand your feelings. I'm so sad that he hasn't gotten much lead roles yet, especially since he's such a great actor...but I think he is perfect for the role of Jun Wu. Especially after seeing him as Hao Chen in LAR. I think he'll do great and I know he'll give us a totally different crazy dijun than the one in LAR. I have faith in him. I don't think anyone fit this role more than him.

I just watched it to see his acting and now I believe he can play Hua Cheng. Not my ideal image of Hua Cheng (looks wise) but acting wise, he'll be able to pull it off. Neo is a very underrated actor. I know he'll do fine as Xie Lian. He looks very similar to Luhan (which has always been my image of Xie Lian), so I'm happy that he got the role.
I'm reading in Chinese. The translated one is only machine translation. He was gone because Tang Zhou (2nd ML and also a demon hunter) injured Yu Mo. To save Yan Dan (FL), Yu Mo told her to leave him. However she was still captured by Tang Zhou. So for like 13 chapters or more, it was all about Yan Dan trying to escape from Tang Zhou. It was around chapter 20 something that Yu Mo finally came "save" her. But now the three of them are stuck in a cave and are "friendly" towards each others. "^^ I'm still reading the novel and haven't finished yet so I have no idea who ML really is...but from reading, I just assumed that it's Yu Mo.
I just started the novel and Yu Mo is pretty much gone for like 13 or more chapters....so maybe that is the reason why they made Cheng Yi's character into ML? I'm so confused now and I can understand why fans are angry....but the decision is made by the production team and really not Cheng Yi so fans shouldn't take it out on him.

In the novel, they ended together but before that, she was alone for a long time before he returned. That is why I enjoyed the drama ending more. Fui Jiu Yun kept his promise.

I actually think the ending for the drama is a lot better because it showed how much Fu Jiu Yun loved her. It's way more romantic. Because she was sad, he created a dream world in the lamp for her to live happily while she wait for him. All Fu Jiu Yun really wanted was for her to have one good and happy life. The drama ending truly showed this.

It's not fair to said that Cheng Yi has a low IQ. He used to be very outspoken and out going but something happened and it completely changed him. He's so quiet and reserved now. Not exactly sure what happened but someone just doesn't change completely like this.
I do hope he and Yuan Bingyan will reunite in another drama some day. I love them together.
