So, in episode 12 when he's talking and drinking with WKX, Zhou Zi Shu says: "A bad guy can be forgiven by God…
I think those lines (the one you highlighted and the next one he says) are meant to say if even bad guys can be forgiven / redeemed, of course good guys won't be damned for just one mistake.

hmm... I may not be saying everything exactly right, because some of these words can carry loaded meaning from their religious origin. But overall, the idea is close to "Put down the knife, Become a Saint". So, the idea more is if a person does bad thing can stop doing bad thing, use that energy and power to do good thing instead. I haven't studied ancient Chinese text enough to say the origin of that phrase, but I think it's the idea that matters. Otherwise, we may get into a long study on what is "heaven" and what are "gods" in Buddhism...

This is not a Priest original (I don't remember that scene in the novel). It's part of Chinese idiom. The exact idiom is "放下屠刀,立地成佛". And the line in the show just uses that in a sentence. The script-writer borrowed A LOT from Chinese classics

So, I didn't exactly see WKX as a villain, let alone a super-villain. Flawed - Yes. Villain - No.I can think of…
thanks! I agree that WKX isn't a villain, but it's just the word that came to mind to describe what I'm looking for. Thanks for the reco. Will check them out!

Hi all, I enjoyed WOH because it's good. Also, I'm a sucker for redeemable super villains like WKX. Any reco for other c-drama with redeemable super villains (preferably in wuxia, xianxia category)? (and I'm using the term "villain" to describe WKX not because he's a villain in the story, but he's "supposed" to be a bad guy. I love the complexity of good bad guys, or innocent bad guys, or forced to be bad guys)

Have you seen the concert? Is their opening scene supposed to reflect their book extra ending?

OMG!!! that is so awesome! Thanks for sharing! (When a commercial is done right, it can be so right. When it's done wrong, it can be so wrong.)

It’s been 6 months since the first ep. aired. It continues to be one of my favorites dramas ever.
YES! This whole thing with ZZH has been so distressing. My favorite c-drama actually is the Nirvana in Fire Series, and ZZH was in the first one. And WoH I think comes right after those two...

i just finished this but can smone explain to me abt the ending. Im kinda confused
I think it's supposed to be a bit up to interpretation to past censors.
I *think* it is intended to be a bad ending (as aired) - no BL's are supposed to "live happily ever after". Therefore, until you watch the "bonus ending", I think it is interpreted that WKX died for ZZS. But the production team wanted to leave some room for imagination, so people like you may have room to wonder WKX did live.
And since all the fans wanted WKX to live (and the production team had the foresight to film the alternate ending), the "unofficial" BTS clip that didn't need to go to censors... Yay, Happy ending.
(It was rumored that even the bonus ep 37 had alternate versions. One is WKX lives, and the other WKX only lives in ZZS's memory / imagination - which is why the released version there was a moment where ZZS's face looks a bit lost, because that scene may have been cut from the imagination version)

Am I going to drop this drama like I did "the untamed"?. I dropped the untamed in episode 16 and just couldn't…
maybe wuxia is just not your genre. If you don't like it by ep 10, it probably won't improve for you. End of ep 10 is one of my highlight moments. But I wouldn't say this drama is hot because of the actors. In fact, both leads were virtual unknowns until this drama. Their fanbase were mainly built from this drama. This drama may be one of the least overhyped drama of this year (almost everyone expected this one to flop). It just got hyped because people like the lines (assume you enjoy Chinese poetry), acting, costume, and actually plot. So, if by ep 10, it hasn't hook you, you may just want to move on.

What about netflix? I want to watch woh but I am currently watching another xianxia & i don't want to watch them…
That was exactly what I was thinking... Since I think the Yin Yang Master was taken down in China, but it's still on Netflix.

I usually don't support downloading - but I may make an exception here, unless anyone knows how to buy a legal copy...

I'm having a problem. Since I've watched the live action drama, I can't enjoy anymore the donghua as I did before.…
I actually think that's the one aspect of the live action that I really enjoyed that I didn't get from the anime or the novel - character struggle / growth. There is very little change in personality / growth in the novel, and the anime largely holds true to that. It's always Tang San challenging those who are stronger than him. He uses his wits to win (because of his past life experience / additional years of wisdom). He can't fail. (The novel constantly say if it's only so easy to defeat him, etc.) The only time where he seemed like a human (and can fail) is at the very very end of the novel. Every other time it's like, yeah, he may have to try harder, but we know he'll win. I started skimming the fight scene. But I do like the anime fight scenes because it looks pretty ;)

Found this interview of the scriptwriter about this drama. Might as well share it.https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/tKtQcHG8SkiOxXmDgTui2QBasically…
I have been really curious on how S2 will come about. I can't imagine the Killer City arc will be preserved. It's too bloody for primetime TV. I also specifically imagined that because there is no clear reasons for the Hu Lie Na character in S1. I imagine it's to plant the seed of they've gone through life & death (without having the Killer City experience) so future Hu Lie Na actions make sense... Just hypothesizing.

Yes I agree! I find Xiao Wu such a badass and awesome female character! There were times when she would sacrifice…
I think he meant that's the only aspect the drama does better than the donghua. I watched the live-action first, and I think the drama is great for many reasons. But then I subsequently binged the donghua - it's a worthwhile bing. The drama is good when considered in isolation. But I have to admit, the donghua is a better execution of the story... I thought the live-action finale was good, until I watched the donghua equivalent... [I actually not sure that it's fair to compare the two, considering different medium, different adaptation, different considerations. Once you watch the donghua, I think you'll understand. Overall, I second the reco :) }

second season is confirmed! no cast announcement yet though..
"confirmed" is a loose use of the word. A better phrase is a S2 is "planned". But "planned" in conceptual planning and a plan in action is two different thing...

It's getting rerun at a time arguably better than it's first run. The first run is a lunchtime spot. The rerun is at 10pm. It's like just after prime time.
