It's not the actor's fault. He brought his best to lackluster writing.
I recommend Mysterious Lotus Casebook which was my Cheng Yi drama and made me become a fan. It has mystery, humour, friendship, bromance and very slight romance. The show rating is also very high.

I only watched the first episode and a bit of the second one. I turned it on for my mom and she didn't like it so we stopped. I guess I didn't miss much. It seems a lot of people like the shows though.
