This drama and Joy Of Life are the quality cdramas of 2019 for me. The tragic fate of some of the 9 survivors after they came back to Chang'an from hell and that were going through PTSD, plus Long Bo flag to honour them made me very very emotional. I was cheering for Long Bo to blow up that emperor head and Lin JuanLin's. In the meanwhile it perfectly treats of how in appearance Tang was going through its golden age but deep down it was rotting
This drama is the only chinese drama that used foreign actors/characters in the best way possible. Djimon Hounsoun and the actor playing Persian Friar were not cringeworthy tools but brought so much dynamism to this already intense and gut-wrenching gorgeous show ! I will never be thankful enough towards this masterpiece director. It is too bad it aired around the same time as another drama that was more popular thus people slept on this masterpiece.
How dare you give such a low rating to the best costume cdrama of 2019 (with Joy of life) ? After you complain about the decline in cdramas quality . Please fix the ratings !
I never says it enough but I highly doubt there will be a male lead character in a costume cdrama as good as Xiao Qi. One word describes him : Care. Xiao Qi caring nature even makes animals care for him (look at his scenes with the horses) and made Awu see his worth opens herself to him to the point of fighting side by side with him. Even Zilong genuinely appreciates him and likes him. The memorial room for his comarades that died on the battlefield and he helps financially their families. This trait about him can be a flaw cause he wants to help without sharing nor communicating so there is a thin line btw selflessness and selfishness. Look at the way he is feeding Awu contraceptive medecine cause he thinks it is good for her health. The intension can be good but the action looks so wrong ! For the ones that were looking for XQ's flaws now you get it ?

I am weird cause I liked Tong Yao in YWOTYC and I thought she had good chemistry with Chen Fei Yu in Ever Night (I never never bought the SS and NQ couple cause they gave a daddy-daughter vibe and it is obvious he love MSS). At last a costume cdrama where the OTP act like ACTUAL couple ! Thank you. The improvisation, the acting and adorableness level of ZYW's XQ and ZZY's Awu is too high. I think cdramas PDs should seriously start pushing a more mature/natural vibe in their dramas concerning their OTP and not the barbie and Ken type where the pair lack sensuality and s.x appeal
Ep 32 to 41 even intensified my admiration for Xiao Qi. Sur he is too "perfect" but this "perfect" well done cause undearing and his humble origine makes it understable
