writers sometimes tend to overthink things, and ep 40 is an example of that. other than that, the show was written…
Honestly!!!!!!I wish they had left us with those two wonderful men and not left such a sad after taste 💔😓 We have enough and more tragedy happening in real life that the writers could have chosen to leave us in bliss in drama land
Also, Duke Su with his hair down and collarbone on display! How scandalous! In the words of Im Sol “Omo omo omo!!!!!!!!!! This is crazy! I am not the guilty one. This collarbone is the guilty one here.” 😂😂
The biggest mistake of YuZheng was sacrificing the development XH character because he had doubts about Wang Xing…
I just finished Story of Kunning Palace and to be honest I am impressed by (and completely in love with lol) Duke Su as a character more than I am by Xie Wei (not that they NEED to be compared but…) And I personally think that for me, one of the reasons for this is the lack of a complete story arc for Xiao Heng. I like that there is something mysterious and almost super-hero like about him. Also, there are hints that Xiao Heng grew up with incredibly loving parents and had a good friend in the form of the Emperor which would have contributed towards his solid personality. So maybe the drama’s success missed out by not fleshing out his character more but I am perfectly happy 😂 😂
Most of the villains in the show are written to be nuanced and multidimensional as opposed to being caricature…
I feel sorry for Wanning after seeing her backstory. It was quite obvious that she’s gone through something deeply traumatic to become so dark and twisted but actually seeing it happen is truly heartbreaking 💔 How does someone come back from that? And to think it would have happened when she was still a little girl. Explains why that tiny act of kindness from SYR has her obsessing over him and also why she thinks of people as toys to be used and thrown away.
It is important to remember that we can empathize and sympathize with her while also acknowledging that she is literally incapable and devoid of these two abilities. There is kindness in accepting that she is cruel and evil. And this is the way to humanize her so as to see to it that she does not bring harm to others. Such a pitiful character.
So are we just supposed to ignore that someone might have died just because Jiang Li decided to play a petty trick…
When I first saw the scene where Wanning tells the doctor that he was her “favorite doctor” just as he was hesitating to tell her what he found out, my immediate thoughts were 1. She must have used him before in her diabolical plans which is why he is her ‘favorite’ which essentially makes him complicit in her cruelty 2. He knew he would be dead the minute he figured out what was happening with her pulse and when she mentioned the “tea”. How is that possible unless he was aware of the ingredients of the tea (if that was her method of killing people off) or was privy to situations where other people were taken away to “have some tea” 3. She had a very clear choice in deciding what to do with the physician 4. It was kind of stupid to kill him when he was someone who could help her with the pregnancy
I did some thinking when I saw this comment and went back and saw the mentioned scenes with Duke Su and Jiang Li again just to be sure and I did not at all think that Duke Su and Jiang Li needed to bear the emotional burden of Wanning’s choices. Jiang Li smiled when she heard Duke Su mention the pregnancy and NOT when she heard that the doctor was “dealt with”. I am sure that yes, they knew on some level that there would be collateral damage BUT it wasn’t a case where they could save everyone involved in this. So why exactly should they show any remorse? And imho, THAT would go against their character narrative as this is about revenge - plain and simple. For all we know, knowing Duke Su, they would have burnt paper money for the doctor and taken care of his wife and son. 🙂
Have put Wang Xing Yue's dramas on my list. Haven't really seen anything except One And Only where he was the…
Thank you for convincing me about SOKP! I am now on ep14 and loving it! Very similar to The Double in pacing and story line and setting! It’s a strange thing seeing (Duke Su) being all straightforward and abrupt unlike his charming and confident self here lol!!!
He dare not, coz there's this guy with his red fan 👀
It’s based off a BL novel (like how The Untamed was) so there’s a lot of subtle hints of the original story line although of course nothing explicit. Hope you enjoy it 😊
I think he’s a close confidant of the emperor also cos his father was a celebrated general and he comes from…
Okay someone on Reddit answered this. Wanning and King Cheng (the king in the north) are children of the favorite consort of the previous emperor. When she was young she as sent to enemy territory as a hostage and she came back emotionally damaged and dark and twisted. So she tortures everyone around her now as vengeance. Also the current emperor keeps her pacified as a way to keep her brother in line.
Is Duke Su and The Emperor relatives or friends like Duke Su causally taking with the Emperor Im really confused…
I think he’s a close confidant of the emperor also cos his father was a celebrated general and he comes from a very influential political family. And over that, he has been assigned personally by the emperor to investigate the Wanning princess and the Li family in secret cos they’re planning a rebellion led by the king (who’s currently in the north) to overthrow the emperor and take the throne. I am not sure how the Wanning princess is related to the emperor though. The current concubine Li (sister to Jiang Li’s mother) was the concubine of the previous emperor and I am guessing Wanning and the current emperor are cousins (and not siblings/step-siblings/half-siblings). She seems to have a lot of power though - which is curious.
I can see what you mean. As of right now, I'm kind of torn about my thoughts on him. I originally despised him…
It’s kind of ironic that scenes where her fate is at stake always seem to have him as the final judge and executioner and the series is brilliant for doing this. Gives the audience an illusion of how he is always saving and protecting her presumably cos he genuinely loves her. I personally think what he feels for her now is guilt and a good dose of fear and that trumps whatever else he’s feeling for her! And he thinks that by supporting her now (and expecting her to appreciate it!!!) he can absolve himself of the heinous crime he knows he’s committed. He keeps trying to convince himself that he did what he had to do to survive and thought that he could get it over and done with and could lay the blame elsewhere (the princess, his mother and sister, politics of the palace, etc). But seeing proof of it in the form of Jiang Li is driving him insane and I am curious to see what he will do next. Such a morally grey character!
