It's not a cdrama until someone takes a swan dive off a cliff 😭😂
The cliff is to CDramas what the “white truck of doom” is to KDramas 😂

BWS doing justice to all those amazing clothes they’ve put on him 😍🤩 And the colors! Love them! Also love the bold colors IU wears as if to show the difference in their methods of expression.

The improvement compared to Fangs of Fortune is noticeable. The writing feels more polished, the emotional flow…
Was just thinking this...the story telling is so much more compelling here. As much as I love the FOF characters, it was so tiring to watch the show episode after episode cos I couldn't figure out the flow of the story line. And, the whole mess with ZYZ and WX was so exhausting! I wish they hadn't included that romantic implication and kept it platonic as I think a lot of the inconsistency would have been sorted with that itself lol! Zhu Yan/Ying Long and Zhou Yichen/Bing Yi have my heart though :)

I am enjoying Chi Wen's story here and its almost as if we're seeing Bing Yi come back to life.

Love that thought! So true - she was so locked in!

I can see this happening. Imagine you work for a large company, you only know the CEO's name, but never met him…
I think it’s also to do with the whole hierarchy thing. Marquis is not the same as General so he would usually be spending his time in his tent etc. and engaging more with his Generals. Remember he has a very small number of people who are directly reporting to him and they are the ones who are at the front line with him and who then pass on his instructions to their subordinates etc. And these comprise the actual Generals who engage and interact with the soldiers so it’s possible none of them can even fathom sharing a tent with him when injured.

Look at me being ao invested in why XieZheng is not recognized by his soldiers! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Like how she addressed the princess as Qi Beholden hahahhaha! I love her inner monologue too!

I’m low key annoyed they made her character so clueless and dumb, especially in this ep. It’s like, they just…
This scenario in the novel is on similar lines. ChangYu leaves the military by herself and kills a black bear and when she thinks she cannot drag the whole bear to the camp or something, she decides to raid the enemy camp to steal their supplies. And XieZheng shouts at her when she comes to see him with food made with the salt she stole cos he was so worried about her and had similar issues with her breaking military protocol etc and then she sulks for a while cos her pride was hurt. She is equally reckless in the novel cos she’s so naive and there are instances where he takes the fall for her so this seemed very par for the course regarding their personalities. She’s never known what it means to be in the military and honestly everyone just sees her as the wife who’s come to take care of her sick husband. And with the whole identity issue, no one is actually taking the time to explain how her actions have consequences here. So I don’t think she’s dumb but rather naive. 🙂

I’m actually enjoying the novel and drama simultaneously and I know what you mean. There are changes to the personalities of the characters but I actors are doing a good job so its easy to watch.

But I also enjoyed this ending tbh. He had prepared his faithful side-kicks well enough to manage the sect in his absence cos he thought he was dying. And he looked so happy to be her husband hahahaha

He’s really good here! I’ve always had an eye on him right from his first drama and especially after his TGCF…
“Mouth acting” would be right :-) He still has that habit of pursing his lips once in a while though - reminds me of how Esther Yu does it to look cute. Maybe its a “full lips” thing lol! And you are right about the comedy. And honestly, I think his chemistry with Tian XiWei seems the most natural to me out of all his historical drama pairings. I couldn’t feel it anywhere else (except maybe Maiden Holmes). I wonder if it’s because he does the “quietly caring partner “ parts better than the eager-puppy or anti-villain ones. (I’d have liked to see him as Xie Wei now when he seems more self-aware as an actor).

Yes Wang Hedi was a surprise. He is one person who I think does comedy well. His whole character there reminded me of MegaMind honestly- the good evil villain lol. I haven’t watched any of his other historical dramas though - started the one where he’s a eunuch but never completed it. He is not one of my personal go-to actors.

I've never gotten the hype around ZLH as an actor, but his performance in this feels very natural, very solid.…
He’s really good here! I’ve always had an eye on him right from his first drama and especially after his TGCF casting but he never could grasp that historical/costume drama look and feel for me. I remember thinking his posture was so bad in Maiden Holmes, then the way he carried his robes was so off-putting for me in My Journey To You, the way he delivered in lines was kinda weird in Story of Kunning Palace (he had the habit of closing his mouth after every line of dialogue and it felt so unnatural). He was alright in My Princess Royal but didn’t really stand out to me as much. But here - boy oh boy!!! You can see how he’s worked really hard to capture the essence of the character - he has the demeanor of a war general (although I wonder how those military folks who carry such immense weights by way of their armour and those halberds and spears and swords can remain so lean!) and even though he is dubbed, his mouth movements and actions feel so natural. I am glad to see his progression as an actor in historical dramas cos boy does he have the looks for it!
