Yes, and also, her ideas of marriage/romance are definitely influenced by her mother, stepmother and father. Even though maybe not outright toxic, it definitely is unhealthy and dysfunctional.

I was thinking how we see him in the earlier episodes through the eyes of people who have had encounters with him - ruthless, bloodthirsty, cruel, etc etc. And then we see him with people who are close to him and he’s so different - straightforward, decisive, caring, etc. Quite fascinating.

Also, Fu Yixiao educating the Emperor on how parenting is supposed to work was the highlight of the entire episode for me! She’s had such a horrible child hood and yet has so much empathy ! The way she stepped in and took charge! Phew! 🔥

I don’t think he was ever given a chance to think about the nation as a whole and let alone the people. His world was always very small - his army, his hatred for his father, his besotted need to avenge his mother and, keeping Xiyang safe. I am not disappointed that he didn’t want to take the throne from the very person he wanted to fight against.

I am however VERY disappointed with his father and his mother! What a cruel way to treat your child! I honestly thought there was a reason the Emperor was behaving the way he did - something like he was being threatened or slow poisoned or something and that he was treating Suige this way cos he was worried for him. Turns out he’s just another narcissistic parent who sees his child as a way to fulfill his ambitions! How absolutely self-centered! And his mother! Yes her beliefs were brilliant but again, she did EXACTLY what the Emperor did - influence her child against his father and make him believe that that was his way of making a choice! Well, guess what? He did what she wanted him to - made a choice NOT to want to be the Emperor. I feel for Suige.

If you think about it, Suige was old enough to remember his mother and her teachings but Xiyang wasn’t. And he ran away to the military at a young age leaving Xiyang with the stepmother and uncle. She definitely would have been influenced. She was protected by her brother yes, but I am sure her step mother would have made her feel like she was entitled to anything she wanted and was literally manipulated into believing that marrying XJS was all her dreams coming true. Also, she knew she had no one that was hers alone - her father was absent, Suige had his military, younger sibling had his mother and uncle so she believed herself so in love with XJS that she saw him as hers and couldn’t stand the idea of him not wanting her back.

It’s clear that she didn’t know of the plans until later which is when she tried to kill the masked fellow and then got shot. But it does seem silly that no one thought to keep the most efficient archer away from the walls lol!

I am confused about one thing - did Yixiao not get the memo about not being on the city wall during the war? The plan was to let Suige into the city to die along with all the people but did nobody anticipate that Yixiao would decide to kill Suige on her own? I am curious!

Sigh. Yet another male lead that goes into my list of unattainable men. Suige you rascal!!!!! 😭😭

Sui Ge is so damn real for how he doesn’t understand how to console Yixiao in the beginning and inevitably makes it about him everytime! And I love how she calls him out on it. 😀 I think him talking about his past helped her understand where he was coming from. And for him, seeing what was happening to her and her reactions gave him perspective and a reminder that his experiences of betrayal were in the past while hers are in the present. He’s figured out how to stop and listen to what she needs and not act on what he thinks she needs. Which is also what helped him with his sister’s choice of marrying the dude - “Even though she’ll end up regretting it, I need to respect her current choices.” Wow!

Absolutely! He is her left hand and she is his protector. I love their dynamics!

I also love how Yixiao’s instincts are so refined. She senses that MY is not who/what he seems. He saw the drawing and immediately acted on it and killed off anyone who could lead back to him.

Ah. So Emperor is poisoned. And he knows. And he’s keeping Suige at arms length. And MY holds a grudge. Most likely for his father’s sake.
