this is something that i've been thinking about. a lot of cdrama after 2020ish era, use english language song…
I don’t mind English songs but I am confused as to why they’re sort of…incoherent. Like someone has translated them from another language verbatim without looking at flow, usage, grammatical correctness, etc. It is quite jarring and distracting. I guess your explanation of it being popular and cool makes sense when you think about the audience that doesn’t understand English as much. And yes, I would have loved to hear more Mandarin songs as I think they sound more beautiful but perhaps it becomes too literal for the Mandarin speaking audience and the imperfect English lyrics gets the vibes right if not the meaning.
I need some clarification on something totally unrelated though - - why are some of the songs in English? I get totally pulled out of the scenes when those songs play in the background as my brain is going “Oooh that doesn’t make sense. What does ‘cloudy road’ even mean? Is it perhaps a term used in Chinese that’s then translated to English? Then why not just sing in Chinese and give us the English translations instead? Who even writes these songs? Oh but this one has a nice singer. His voice is really nice. Hmm, I need to look him up. I wonder if he speaks English naturally or if he had to train a lot to sing in English? But then why make him sing in English when they could have just had the song in Chinese! “ and before I know it, the scenes have skipped ahead and I need to mute the song so that I don’t get distracted by the damn lyrics that don’t make sense and go back to concentrating on the scenes!!
I understand what you’re saying. For me, I think I was super hyped for it and went into it eagerly and immediately…
Nope you’re completely validated! Ick would be the right word. I also think it’s a personal preference maybe? I for one am not into anything that gets physical too quickly. I enjoy the slow buildup and the tension and the confusion that comes with the “I want to kill them but I also want to kiss them”!! Here though, I was caught completely off-guard! I need to remember that she’s actually pretending to be a dancer/brothel-girl/or something so it’s only natural for her to be so forward and for him to want to take advantage of it. I’ll let you know how it goes if and when I do get down to watching it. 😀
Guess I'm part of the minority who wasn't able to push through this drama. One of my highly anticipated dramas…
I understand what you’re saying. For me, I think I was super hyped for it and went into it eagerly and immediately after finishing Fated Hearts and was still hung up from the insane enemies-to-lovers chemistry there and might have brought that expectation into this. That was more of a “I will physically hurt you and even kill you” kinda thing whereas here, it was so much of “Let me use my body to lure you in and trick you”. I couldn’t face the whiplash from the two extremes hahhahaha. I love both these actors and I will be giving it one more chance when I have no other drama to watch and have the space to process their … intensity.
I'm ep 16 right now and i don't feel like fl likes ml at all and that is irritating me he is here suffering with…
Yes! I wrote that immediately after I finished watching the drama and it’s hard for me to let it go. 🙂 He was obviously suffering so much and CenJin had the audacity to take care of him like she had no part to play in his suffering AND also while knowing that she would be giving him hope! Gah! That’s cruel! That was quite self-centered of her 😔

I feel you 🙂 And I think he was ready to let go before she told him that she wants to get back together. It bothered me quite a bit that he was the one constantly apologizing and I get it - his people pleasing was a response to his experience. But her treating him the way she did when she did that whole elaborate scheme - that was so brutal. How do you betray someone’s trust like that? I am reminded of Immortal Samsara where something similar happens with the ML doing something (I cannot remember what) to break the FL’a trust and he said it was for her sake etc and they had a beautiful scene where he apologized very eloquently and it just made up for all the heartbreak he caused. However now, as much as I love LiWu and CenJin, I am left feeling so incomplete. Especially maybe also cos I read the novel and CenJin comes across as a really mature person there unlike in the drama.
Wah! Daniel did such a good job - he broke my heart as the boy who was initially so hesitant to take up any additional space lest he lose everything . I know how that feels at that age having gone through a similar experience and all his mannerisms were so on point. 😢 And how he couldn’t at times believe Cen Jin’s kindness and got so overwhelmed with it all. I wanted to give him a huge hug when he thought that Cen Jin was pushing him away cos he slept with her. Cen Jin was really cruel to him in that scene. 😔😔 And that is something that I still feel incomplete about after the drama has ended - her treatment of him and how her actions basically had him end up dealing with symptoms of PTSD didn’t seem to be addressed. Dr. Lu saw this I think which is why he referred him to a psychiatrist. Sure they referred to it but I really really wish they had an open discussion about it and Cen Jin said her part and apologized to him. That makes me sad cos Liu really deserves an apology. I don’t know how he could recover from that kind of betrayal especially at that age. 😔😔
Heavy Sigh. Another fictional man to simp over. Who also happens to be tall. And has a nice voice. And smile. Life definitely is unfair, sometimes. Heavier sigh.
Exactly!!!! And Cen Jin doesn’t apologise as much to Li Wu. All throughout, Li Wu has been the first to say…
Ohh how I wish they do!
I love that he’s so determined but I love that he follows her pace and doesn’t impose himself on her even more. He can be childish and act from a space of deep hurt but when he steps back and does those acts of service for her without expecting anything in return, aaaaaagggghhhhh my heart cannot take it!!!!!
That mother is such a typical Asian mother! And you can see parts of her in Cen Jin with how she thinks for Li Wu and makes decisions for him without consulting with him!
Thanks for your replies. It seems confusing. When the course is for 2 years, why did he stay for more years!?…
He left when he was 21 and they meet again when he’s 26-27. So altogether 5-6 years I’d say. Looks like it was partly cos of Covid and then he got some partnerships/research opportunities with some US companies or something. I understood that he got back when there was an opportunity to build a start-up in his field of interest (environmental analysis ai think). In some ways, it does seem that he used work to escape his feelings about Cen Jin and his friend did say that Li Wu was a workaholic even at the expense of his health.
Beginning episode 23 : I understand what she wants to do. It's true he's too attached to her and her being older,…
Exactly!!!! And Cen Jin doesn’t apologise as much to Li Wu. All throughout, Li Wu has been the first to say sorry and it is always after self reflection and he talks about it openly. He seems to be more emotionally aware - especially his “I feel like I have no boundaries. You call and I come running.” Wow. And he willingly gets back into a relationship with her inspite of it. I really wish she had apologised to him for causing him so much pain. I cannot imagine how he could have recovered from that betrayal and the trauma that came with it. It’s something that bothers me quite a bit and I feel for Li Wu. I feel like these are from parts of her relationship with her mother who is quite overbearing and self-centered. Her father seems more grounded and mature and he’s one of my favorite characters.
I know that she really liked him before divorce but what did she give up for Wu Fu?
She got together with Wu Fu while they were in university together and later, he got promoted while she was going through the miscarriage. Wu Fu was also quite insecure about her being rich or her father being influential somehow or something which goes to show that she would have sacrificed some of her ambition for him and put him first. Which is probably what she’s reminded of with Li W’s decision to stay back because of her.
