I will pick this one because this is super realistic, whereas QOT was makjangish OTT drama with all planning plotting amd then suddenly FL recovering from her terminal incurable disease. They packed too much into one for anyone to believe it was real.
Whereas here seokryu alr had surgery, this is not terminal disease but more like relapse of her stomach cancer. She will def get better but in meanwhile you will see her emotional journey.
Atleast here, we dont have obsessive delusional lover of her who will kidnap her & then mistress of grandpaa who will try to kill her nd blah blah. This is simple healing romance with slice of life type of characters.

Sure, she never asked to be born into this life, but weren’t they the ones who raised her throughout her whole life, despite the poverty? The least she could do is explain why she quit her job. Has she ever clarified to her parents why she left? If they understood her situation, they might empathize with her better. Instead, she quits her job and returns to Korea without even informing them. What are they supposed to do when they see their daughter's future crumbling before their eyes? Up to now, they believed this was her dream, so how can they see her dream falling apart like this?

Of course, she needs to give them time to understand. They also have a generational gap, so it will take time.

You say parents should realize they don’t know everything, but has she ever come clean with them? Just imagine, if your family member suddenly quits their well paid job, how would you react? They are reacting in the same way. You say she didn’t want to burden them with illness of the second child, but that cancer was risky and could have been fatal. Even if she didn’t want to burden them, don’t they at least have the right to know what kind of disease she has and how life threatening it is? If she had died three years ago, imagine how guilty her parents would have felt for their entire life. She didn’t want to burden them, which I understand, but at least let them be by her side. They deserve that much. Imagine the guilt they would have felt if something had happened to her. Falling ill wasn’t her fault, and wanting to avoid burdening them wasn’t her fault either, but not telling them was a mistake. Let them handle how they will deal with her situation. If she’s handling things on her own, they should be allowed to do the same.

You’re questioning what kind of respect her parents have for her but what kind of respect does she show her parents by not explaining why she quit her job? If she wants respect, she should be open with them. You raise your child with love and care, and then you see their life falling apart while they don’t explain anything. How would any parent feel? You say her parents wanted an ideal life for her, but didn’t she act as if her job was her dream job? To them, it seemed like what she wanted, so if she suddenly quits without explanation, they only want her to face her problems and return to the US, If she had explained properly, they would understand. Look at how speechless her mother was in today’s episode after seok ryu revealed all her feelings. That was realization, but wasn’t it wrong for seok ryu to hide everything?



It’s still interference. Imagine you want to pursue a risky course and your sister tries to interfere by telling your parents not to give you any money. How would you feel? Yes, she achieved everything on her own merit, but that’s not Dongjin's problem. He didn’t have that talent and relies on his parents money (not even Seokryu’s), so she should stop acting like his parent. His parents are alive and will decide what to do. She isn’t anyone to interfere. He never interfered in her life, so why should she? Even her breakup and quitting her job were family matters, but did he ever say anything? What if he said, "Why are you here after quitting your job and breaking up?" You’re ruining the family atmosphere. How would she feel? Obviously not good. He isn’t saying anything because he’s not her parent; he’s letting their parents handle her problems. That’s how you should respect boundaries as siblings. I know how it feels when the older child tries to dictate the younger one's life.

Right now, I’m on the family's side because everyone is criticizing them even though they were in the dark the whole time. Seok-ryu was struggling on her own, and now everyone expects the family to instantly accept her decision. How is that even possible?

But honestly i love the interesting debate they (writers) brought to the table.

The situation feels incredibly real. When Seokryu was beating Dongjin, I felt anger as if i were in his place. The portrayal was so realistic that it really struck a chord.

Instead of resolving problem with communication, i believe that once they learn about her cancer, they will become more understanding towards her. I wish the resolution had come naturally rather than through the cancer storyline.

Yes, she managed everything on her own in the U.S., but it’s not like her parents didn’t play a role in raising her. Raising a child requires a significant amount of money, even if you exclude university fees and her living expenses in the U.S.

They come from a very poor background, so raising two children, one of whom had a heart condition, must have been incredibly difficult for them, perhaps even more challenging than what Seokryu faced. In the U.S., she only had to take care of herself, earning and spending for her own needs. However, her parents were responsible for supporting all four of them. Given the hardships they endured, it’s understandable that they don’t want her to face the same struggles, which is why they’re not fully supportive of her decisions. Moreover, she didn’t even tell them why she quit or that she had stomach cancer, so how could they possibly understand her situation? They likely would have supported her if they had known.

As for Dongjin, yes, she claims to have sacrificed a lot for him, but did he ever ask her to? Obviously not. While I understand that she felt obligated to do that because of his condition, that was ultimately her decision. It’s not as though he pressured her. Furthermore, Dongjin never questioned or commented on any of her choices, even when they affected him, because he respects her autonomy as a family member. He expects the same in return. So why interfere in his life? If he gets scammed, that’s his responsibility, and he’ll learn from it. Yes, it’s their parents’ money, but just as she has a right to it, so does he. Let him and their mother handle the situation.

If you argue that Dongjin’s decisions affect Seokryu’s life, then Seokryu’s decisions also impact everyone else’s lives. But is he saying anything to her? Even within a family, boundaries should be respected. I dislike it when siblings try to dictate another sibling’s life as if they were a parent. That authority belongs solely to parents, not to siblings.

I don’t believe her entire education was funded by scholarships. While she might have received a scholarship for university, what about her earlier education? Raising a child involves more than just paying for school; it requires a significant amount of money. Even if we ignore the financial aspect, she was attending university and managing everything on her own. How could they know she was driven by peer pressure?

Since they were unaware that she was hiding her true desires, it’s understandable that they were confused about why she would quit a perfect job and a seemingly ideal life. Did she ever tell them she was miserable all her life? No. Did she even mention she had cancer? So, how could she expect them to support such a risky decision, like quitting her job and changing careers, without any prior communication?

Just like Seokryu, her parents faced hardships—perhaps even more severe than hers. While Seokryu only needed to worry about supporting herself, their parents raised two children while struggling with poverty. On top of that, Dongjin had a heart condition, which likely required additional financial resources. Life was never easy for them, but from her mother’s perspective, Seokryu had an ideal job and life, so she doesn’t want her to quit and risk a life of hardship. If Seokryu had shared her feelings from the beginning, they might have understood.

Moreover, Dongjin never interfered or commented on her life decisions, so why is she interfering in his?

And i think this is a healing romance, not just a romcom. It focuses on Seokryu's journey from hitting rock bottom to realizing and achieving her own dreams, with Seunghyo supporting her. So, this isnt going to be a smooth ride from start to finish there will be ups and downs that challenge Seokryu.

It feels unrealistic when parents are shown instantly supporting decisions they have never believed in or agreed with. It usually takes time for them to fully grasp what you want and what you dont. Having raised you with care and love, its not easy for them to quickly get behind a risky choice you make. If they do eventually support you, its a sign of their deep love and understanding. Although they may take time because they come from a different generation, they will ultimately stand by you (Im referring to parents who genuinely care, like Seokryu's parents).

Seokryu is definitely not going to die. I mean, this situation isnt even close to the level of QOT thats for sure.

But aside from that, this episode really hits home. Seokryu's family, though a bit OTT, is very relatable. I experienced something similar last week so i can really connect with the whole drama. Its just that i see myself in Dongjin's place, not Seokryu's.

I see my sister in Seokryu, she is domineering and i just cant stand it. I dont like how she tries to interfere in my life. I never meddled in hers so i expect the same in return. Last week, we had a big fight, similar to Seokryu and Dongjin's situation.

Honestly, who is Seokryu to interfere in what Dongjin asks from their mother?? Whether he is being scammed or not, even if he is manipulating their mom to get money, thats between them. They are also his parents, so i dont see why she should be meddling in his life. Did he ever interfere in her life?? Never. I never saw him commenting on her breakup or even when she joined cooking classes after quitting her job so i expect the same from Seokryu. Girl, just mind your own business and let him handle his own life.

Just like Seokryu and Dongjin, my mother is a little biased towards me but my dad pampers my sister, so there is a balance between the two. I see the same dynamic in Seokryu's parents behavior. Her dad is soft towards her, while their mom is biased towards Dongjin. No matter how much you try, there will always be some imbalance when it comes to parents loving their children.

Although my mom is a bit biased towards me, she never neglects my sister or discourages her, so in that sense, she is better than Seokryu's mom.

However i cant entirely blame Seokryu's mom either. I mean, come on, you are not telling her why you quit your job. They spent their entire savings on your education, so how do you expect them to be calm and fully supportive?? You are not even telling them that you had stomach cancer and what you went through all these three years. How can you expect them to understand you?? They are parents, yes, but they are also human. If you dont tell them, they will never know. If you do, they will understand for sure. And as for changing careers, thats definitely a big shock for them. At least consider how much money they spent on your education, how much hard work they put into earning that money. Put yourself in their shoes a little bit. If you quit your job in your thirties and then tell them you want to find your dream, do you really think they will be supportive?? Let them take their time to process all of this. A big shocker is coming for them and they will definitely be devastated and feel guilty because you hid the truth and they were harsh on you.

Also, stop interfering in your little brother's life. He never interfered in your decisions, so he expects the same from you.

Thats my take from the other characters perspectives. When you think about it, this drama is super relatable and realistic, for sure.

I support Tonkla’s right and wrong both; he has a stronger backstory and more main character energy in this show. I personally like how both leads are morally gray, but i support what Tonkla did to avenge his brother’s murder.

Until now, I wasnt feeling sympathetic toward Song Pan Ho and Ho Young but after Ep 8, i badly want Song Pan Ho and Ho Young to destroy that Woo One trash family. What Sang Hyeok did to Ho Young's mother disgusts me to the core. This whole family deserves very harsh punishment, they all need to be destroyed.

This episode was packed with angst, family issues, heartfelt conversations and budding new friendships. Overall it was filled with a lot of emotions, like a rainbow, with each color representing different feelings.

Seunghyo and Dan Ho's heart to heart talk was heartwarming. I like their new budding friendship and i also love how Dan Ho and Moeum are forming a bond over Yeon Du.

Seokryu’s dad may be naive and his wife overbearing but i liked how they resolved their issues by the end. Every family has its struggles but what truly matters is that they love each other. Seokryu’s dad also came to realize that while his wife cares about money, she doesnt look down on him, she genuinely loves him.

Seunghyo and Seokryu need to communicate better. They need to have a heart to heart talk, only then will they understand each other.

Yes, they are immature but does that really matter?? If you think about it, they only act immature around the people they love (their family and friends) not with others. You can be 40+, 50+ and still be immature with those you are close to and thats completely normal. Even i act immature with my family and that actually makes me feel loved and accepted because they dont judge me for my behavior.

Seokryu, Seonghyo, and Moeum grew up together and are practically family, which is why they often act childish with one another. Seokryu's love for her mom, Dongjin, and her dad is evident in how she behaves. The way she teases dongjin makes them feel like real siblings. On the other han, Seonghyo isnt as close with his family, which explains why he is always serious around them. Hopefully, as time goes on, the three of them will become closer and more open with each other.

This was such a heartwarming episode, definitely the best one yet. We witnessed significant character development, with Seunghyo gradually realizing his feelings and Seokryu realising her dream. Its clear that Seokryu’s love for cooking is a legacy from her father.

The episode struck a perfect balance between romcom and slice of life elements. The soothing atmosphere was a delight and the playful banter between Seunghyo and Seokryu added just the right touch of humor.

Seo Jihye's cameo was truly meaningful. I liked her character, she was really sorted and played a important role in helping Seunghyo and Seokryu acknowledge their feelings and aspirations. Her appearance wasnt just for show, she was essential in moving both leads forward.

Additionally, the scene with Moeum, the reporter and his daughter was really touching. They have good development in their own story arc.

Instead of directly copying the original skam version, i think the creators chose to draw loose inspiration from it, recognizing that skam wouldnt align well with Korean culture. It has nothing to do with removing the gay couple as i can see from various teasers that both gay and lesbian couples are included so the LGBTQ+ representation remains intact.

The original skam addresses issues that are relevant to western teenagers in school or college, which differ significantly from the challenges faced by asian students. For instance, one of the main characters in skam is muslim and the cultural and social issues she deals with are not as relevant in korea, where the muslim population is much smaller. This makes it difficult to include a muslim character in a korean adaptation. This is just one example, there are several other issues that western students encounter that korean teenagers may not relate to.

As a result, the korean creators are adapting skam in a way that resonates with their own audience. If they were to replicate skam with a completely western perspective, it would likely fail, much like how Hierarchy did.
